SSS-rank Legendary Draw: Every Drop Becomes a Legendary Item
Chapter 37: Golden Cross
If he had thought the massive monster boss was terrifying to look at while it was casually sitting down at the far end of the cave, then the creature was even more so now that it was standing completely up on its four heavy paws.
Its towering silhouette completely blocked out the faint light, casting a massive, predatory shadow that stretched all the way across the cracked, reddish stone floor toward his feet.
He wasn’t afraid of the giant beast in the absolute slightest nonetheless, keeping his breathing perfectly steady as he held his ground.
His heart didn’t skip a single beat, nor did his hands tremble against the grip of his weapon, because he knew that his own hidden potential was far more terrifying than any local dungeon boss could ever hope to be.
Even after successfully killing those seven ordinary guarding sabertooths with his fiery tornado just a few moments ago, he still hadn’t gotten any item drops from their incinerated remains.
The system had once again been incredibly stingy with its standard loot distribution, leaving the ground completely empty of any glowing green or blue item orbs.
That frustrating lack of rewards was absolutely sure to change very soon, though, the exact moment he successfully killed this massive dungeon boss!
A dark, confident smirk tugged at the corners of his lips as he remembered the unbreakable rules regarding boss-level entities and their guaranteed one hundred percent drop rates.
The colossal dungeon boss suddenly raised its heavy head remarkably high into the dark air of the cavern, its neck muscles bulging beneath its thick striped fur.
With an immense, terrifying burst of physical speed, it violently slammed its massive, four-foot-long fangs straight down into the solid bedrock of the floor right in front of its body.
Leon was completely and utterly confused by this bizarre, self-harming behavior from the apex predator, his brows knitting together tightly as he thought blankly, ’What in the world is it doing?’
He suddenly felt an incredibly violent, rhythmic vibration tearing through the solid stone directly beneath his leather boots, the ground shaking so fiercely that it threatened to throw him off balance.
Relying purely on his highly heightened reflexes and enhanced agility stats, he quickly bent his knees and leapt backwards through the air with a powerful, desperate spring.
As soon as he jumped away from his original position, a fairly massive, jagged earth spike shot violently up from the exact patch of ground he had previously stood on just a millisecond prior.
The sharp stone spike was covered in a deep reddish hue, bursting through the floor with enough raw, piercing force to easily punch through a reinforced steel vault door.
Leon felt a sudden, freezing chill run straight down his spine as he looked down at the deadly rock spike while still mid-air, and he thought with cold sweat, ’If I had stayed there on that spot for even a single second longer... that massive spike would have impaled me...’
Before he could even land safely back on his feet, he felt another sudden chill of danger wash over his entire nervous system, and he quickly glanced back over at the dungeon boss to see what it was planning next.
The giant tiger remained frozen with its teeth buried in the bedrock, its muscular shoulders tensed up as it channeled its hidden reserves.
The intricate, jagged reddish-brown lines running all around its massive fangs were now glowing and vibrating violently with energy.
Leon’s eyes narrowed as he finally pieced the puzzle together, landing smoothly on the stone floor with a light tap of his boots, and he thought, ’So that is exactly what its main skill is...’
Dungeon bosses were universally known by all players to be completely and entirely different from the other standard monsters residing within the same dungeon.
Apart from being overall significantly stronger in raw physical muscle mass and noticeably faster in their movements, these apex predators also possessed much more powerful, highly devastating skills that ordinary monsters couldn’t ever hope to manifest.
These boss-tier abilities usually involved massive environmental manipulation or lethal magical elements that could easily wipe out an entire unprepared party in a matter of seconds.
Leon quickly and aggressively charged straight at the giant monster, his boots kicking up red dust as he tried his best to close the wide distance separating them across the cavern floor.
He knew he couldn’t afford to just stand around at a distance and let the giant creature freely manipulate the bedrock underneath his feet with its long-range earth magic.
The formidable sabertooth tiger fiercely slammed its massive, glowing fangs deep into the solid ground once again, deliberately causing the entire rocky floor of the floor to tremble and buckle violently under the immense magical impact.
The intense shockwave rippled through the stone like a sudden, high-magnitude earthquake, tearing new cracks into the surface.
Leon’s balance was forcefully disrupted by the sudden upheaval of the rock, and his footing slipped, causing him to stagger slightly to the side as he fought against the shifting floor.
His explosive momentum was instantly halted, leaving his upper body momentarily exposed as he widened his stance to keep himself from falling face-first onto the jagged dirt.
The dungeon boss’s jagged red spikes and the patterns running along its fangs suddenly glowed a brilliant, blindingly bright red color, and it suddenly dashed forward towards Leon with a incredibly sharp, explosive burst of speed.
The massive beast covered the ground between them in an instant, transforming into a blurred streak of striped fur and crimson light.
The terrifying, breakneck speed at which the giant creature moved didn’t match its massive physical size in the absolute slightest, which caught Leon quite a bit off guard as he was still trying to recover his footing.
He hadn’t expected a mountain of muscle that huge to accelerate so instantly, forcing his heightened senses to frantically track the incoming threat.
He wasn’t shaken in the slightest bit by the sudden close-quarters danger though, completely maintaining his mental composure as he simply and firmly steadied his boots back on the trembling ground.
His grip remained entirely rock-solid around the glowing handle of Excalibur, his mind remaining as cold and analytical as ice despite the massive jaw closing in on his torso.
His dark eyes instantly lit up with a brilliant, incredibly bright golden color.
At that exact moment, a remarkably long, thin golden cross suddenly materialized out of thin air, appearing directly in front of the rushing monster boss’s massive body.
The glowing vertical part of the thin golden cross was perfectly and flawlessly aligned straight across the center of its massive torso, mapping out a direct path through its chest.
Meanwhile, the sharp horizontal part of the cross sat directly above it, cutting sideways completely across its snarling, fanged face and locking onto its vital points with precision.
The golden cross however, was invisible to the dungeon boss who kept charging angrily.
Even if someone else was there at the moment, the golden cross would be invisible to them also.
Leon was the only one who could see the cross, and a sharp glint flashed across his eyes.
