Chapter 4309: That Person
Lu Yin saw someone in red, holding a red umbrella. Step by step, that person ascended into the sky, and then knelt before the Plume Immortal that stretched across the firmament.
He stared at the man, who was kneeling before the bird. Lu Yin seemed to hear the Plume Immortal's joyful cry.
He watched the red umbrella fall, crushing countless Crimson Starshade cultivators to death in their own megaverse. One person after another charged upwards in desperate struggle, only to be killed in grief and fury, their blood raining down across the sky and earth. He seemed to hear countless wails.
The scene quickly vanished.
Lu Yin stared at Rang Yu. "Who was the one who knelt to a Plume Immortal?"
Rang Yu was surprised. "You even know about the Plume Immortals?"
"Who?"
Rang Yu smiled. His grin was eerie beyond measure. "Are you sure you want to know?"
That person was clearly a traitor, given that he had knelt to a Plume Immortal and killed their own kind, but he was not Jiu Wen.
"Who is he?" Lu Yin asked through clenched teeth.
Rang Yu bared his teeth. "Get me out, and I'll tell you."
Lu Yin stared at him.
Rang Yu smiled in obvious delight. "That person betrayed the entire Crimson Starshade Civilization and betrayed Hong Shuang, the Warden of the Second Rampart, which led to the civilization's defeat and the loss of our mirebound artifact.
"That person took the enemy as his master, transforming the Second Rampart into the fundamental reason for the collapse of the Nine Ramparts, hahahaha! Without him, how could the Nine Ramparts have such a miserable ending?
“With groups of people sent out as bait, the Nine Ramparts could have endured, at least that's what I heard. But at the critical moment, that person betrayed all of humanity. Do you know how many Crimson Starshade cultivators he suppressed and killed back then?
"The Path of Dispassion also distinguishes between right and wrong, but that person's Path of Dispassion has no such thing, only survival. Hahahaha! Get me out, and I'll tell you who he is. He is the greatest traitor to you humans, the greatest traitor to the Nine Ramparts, hahahaha!"
Lu Yin stared blankly at Rang Yu. Humanity’s greatest traitor?
At that exact moment, in a distant corner of the Crimson Starshade Megaverse, someone opened their eyes, suddenly feeling uneasy. Where had this sense of unease come from?
Their gaze turned out, sweeping across the starry sky and scanning the entire megaverse.
Suddenly, their gaze locked onto Baiquan Mountain. They pierced through the sourcebox array to peer inside.
At that instant, Lu Yin's back grew cold, and a sense of dread crawled across his skin. He had felt such a sensation before, and more than once. Most recently, it was during Ancestor Shan’s final battle and again during Lu Yin’s visit to the Longevity civilization. It was the feeling of being observed by an unparalleled powerhouse.
He whirled around. Who?
"Run! You've been marked. You can't save me right now. Go, now!" Rang Yu shouted sharply.
Far away from Baiquan Mountain, Jiu Wen abruptly froze in place. The universe shook as a thundering voice rang out, "What are you doing? Go to Baiquan Mountain at once and kill that child!"
Jiu Wen looked up in shock. "Who?"
"Lu Yin!" The thunderous voice caused everything to tremble.
Jiu Wen's expression changed drastically as he whipped around and rushed back to Baiquan Mountain. He arrived an instant later, stepping forward with an upraised hand, pushing across space. Ji He was startled. "Jiu Wen, you dare?"
The man threw a punch. Interstice Drive Fist. The void layered upon itself like flowing gray streams as fist imprints merged together. It was as if the punch was going to pierce the entire universe.
Jiu Wen raised his hand and directly took the punch, not retreating so much as half a step. Even so, his attempt to open the sourcebox array was blocked.
Ji He's fist pressed down as he glared at Jiu Wen. "You dare to touch this place?"
"Get out of the way!" a harsh shout rang out, shattering the void.
Ji He's mind was thrown into chaos as he stumbled back multiple steps. He lifted his head, an expression of horror on his face. Master?
Jiu Wen opened the sourcebox array and rushed to get inside, only to be met by Lu Yin’s punch.
It was the second punch thrown at the man, and having just accepted Ji He's punch head on, Jiu Wen reflexively raised his hand to meet Lu Yin's as well. However, this punch sent the man flying.
Jiu Wen was strong, exceptionally so, but at that moment, as he hurried to enter Hong Xia's sourcebox array, he was blown away by Lu Yin's punch that contained pure physical strength.
The force of that fist shot through the entire universe. Even Ji He was stunned by its power. Just what had happened?
Lu Yin then suddenly appeared before the man. Such speed?
Before Ji He could even react, Lu Yin said, "I'll take you to my civilization."
Ji He instinctively sensed that something was very wrong. Terrifying power shook the entire universe. Lu Yin abruptly appeared behind Ji He and pressed down with a hand. Ji He was not weak, but if they were exchanging blows, how could they not make contact with each other? Lu Yin was not trying to defeat Ji He in one strike, but simply to touch the man.
Ji He had no idea that mere contact would allow Lu Yin to carry him away with teleportation. He spun around and threw a punch at Lu Yin. At the same time, an indescribable feeling appeared. It was an Immortal’s world.
Lu Yin watched as everything around them turned gray; it was the power of time. This was Ji He's power.
But no matter how Ji He's power worked, his punch was caught by Lu Yin.
The young man shouted sharply, "What are you doing? We're on the same side!"
Jiu Wen harshly ordered, "Ji He, by Ancestor Hong Xia's order, kill!"
As he spoke, Jiu Wen turned his wine gourd toward Lu Yin. A single drop of wine fell, spreading to cover the heavens: moon within the wine, heaven within the gourd.
But the strike missed. Lu Yin and Ji He had both vanished at the same time.
Teleportation. Lu Yin had disappeared from Baiquan Mountain while holding Ji He's fist.
The man himself was horrified. "Teleportation? The Plume Immortals’ ability?"
Lu Yin kept a tight grip on Ji He's fist, but just as he was about to teleport again, the sky of the cosmos itself changed, as if it had suddenly come alive. It was filled with a sense of oppression and savagery, and it came from a single point in the cosmos.
Lu Yin felt his entire body go ice cold. He had never actually faced such a powerhouse before. This was the terrifying power of someone who resonated with at least two laws.
At the same time, a drop of wine was rapidly expanding from another direction. Jiu Wen was also attacking, and his strength was also something that Lu Yin feared intensely, as the man resonated with two cosmic laws.
At this moment, he was being targeted by two powerhouses whom he could not confront. Compared to this, fighting against the Blacklight Civilization felt like a joke.
Fortunately, Lu Yin had never planned to fight either Immortal. He held Ji He's fist and teleported again.
Because he did not have enough time to use his Mirrorlight Art, he was not capable of moving very far, which meant that he could not flee quickly. He was still within the attack range of a powerful Immortal like Hong Xia.
Lu Yin did not know how this powerhouse compared to Ancestor Shan, but he did know that, if things continued as they were, escape would not be possible.
He suppressed his ragged breathing. He could not relax for even a second. Fortunately, one more teleport would put him in range of a pathfinding stone. He had deliberately left one far away from the Crimson Starshade Megaverse, just in case.
He had not dared to leave it too close, out of fear of it being noticed.
"Ji He, do not touch him!" A harsh shout echoed across the cosmos, shaking the entire megaverse.
Ji He's eyes flared. His other hand brought out a red umbrella, and he immediately moved to open it.
Lu Yin's arm withered as he refused to let go of Ji He's fist. He looked up. "Hong Xia, I am a member of Obscura. Do you really dare to violate Obscura’s rules and kill me?"
His words caused Hong Xia's aura to hesitate. Clearly, the man cared a great deal about Obscura. This also served to confirm Lu Yin's suspicions that Hong Xia had joined Obscura. More than that, this told Lu Yin that Hong Xia was also the one who had knelt to the Plume Immortal.
Right after the third teleportation ended, Ji He opened his red umbrella: Umbrella Dominion. Killing intent flashed in the man’s eyes as he glared at Lu Yin. He did not know what had happened, but it had been his decision to take Lu Yin inside the sourcebox array to see Rang Yu. With how things were developing, it was clear that something had gone very wrong. If he did not capture Lu Yin, he would not be able to give an answer to his master.
As this thought ran through his mind, one rib after another of the umbrella turned bright red. Ji He also drew the red sword and attacked with his full power.
Elsewhere, someone appeared atop Baiquan Mountain. "Why was that child able to see Rang Yu?"
Jiu Wen replied in a respectful tone, "Ji He brought him. This junior does not know why."
"When did he arrive here?"
"A few dozen years ago."
The newcomer’s eyes fell to the watery prison within the sourcebox array, focusing on Rang Yu. "What did you tell him?"
Rang Yu burst into laughter. "Can the dignified Ancestor Hong Xia not even stop a child? Hahahaha!"
This person was Hong Xia, the ruler of Crimson Starshade. He looked up at the cosmos. "He cannot get away."
Jiu Wen said, "Senior, did that child just teleport?"
Hong Xia shot a cold glance at Jiu Wen. This person did not know about Lu Yin, and he knew nothing of his abilities, aside from teleportation. Jiu Wen also did not know that Lu Yin cultivated karma. The brat had to already know everything. He could not be left alive.
However, the brat had also joined Obscura, which meant that Hong Xia could not simply kill him.
He had not expected so much to happen during a single session of secluded training. How had Lu Yin even found their megaverse? Why had Ji He taken him to see Rang Yu?
Ji He had not betrayed Hong Xia. If he had, Ji He would not have attacked Lu Yin. Even so, some things seemed to have slipped out of control.
Far away, Lu Yin faced Ji He directly beneath a red umbrella.
Ji He knew that he had created a major disaster. He did not know why his master was so wary of this child, to the point of personally taking action, nor did he know how this child knew that his master was a member of Obscura, but none of that mattered. Ji He only needed to capture Lu Yin.
Ten umbrella ribs glowed red. Within the Umbrella Dominion, any formidable enemy would be erased.
And yet, a moment later, Lu Yin simply vanished. When he reappeared, he was already outside the Umbrella Dominion.
Ji He was stunned, but then he recalled a distant memory: teleportation was the perfect counter to Umbrella Dominion. He had forgotten, but during the final battle against the Nine Ramparts, at the end of humanity's most glorious period, the Plume Immortal Civilization had been the one to fight against Crimson Starshade. Only those birds were able to easily deal with Crimson Starshade.
When Lu Yin appeared outside the Umbrella Dominion, instead of feeling happy, he felt sorrow. This technique was strong, extremely so. If it enveloped someone, they would need to use several times more power than the one wielding the Umbrella Dominion to break free. This was the reason for the famous saying throughout the cosmos: where the red robes pass, not even grass remains. Even so, their greatest counter was the Plume Immortal Civilization's teleportation ability. With it, there was no need to break the technique, as it was possible to simply avoid it.
When peering into Rang Yu's past with karma, Lu Yin had witnessed exactly that. Countless Crimson Starshade cultivators had howled in despair as their Umbrella Dominions had failed. One peerless expert after another had fallen, without so much as a final blaze of brilliance. The Plume Immortal Civilization had smashed them into the dust.
If not for that one person kneeling in submission, the Crimson Starshade Civilization would no longer exist.
Even so, given a choice, those forebears would have preferred for their civilization to be completely erased than to submit to those strange birds. Hong Xia was the greatest traitor to Crimson Starshade, and even to humanity as a whole.
Lu Yin had never met the man in person, and yet he wanted the man dead more than anything.
A red beam shot out from the Umbrella Dominion, aimed straight for Lu Yin.
He wanted to move away, but more than that, he wanted to take Ji He with him even more. If Lu Yin could touch the Immortal again, he could definitely seize him and leave. Ji He was not so strong that Lu Yin was unable to even resist, like Jiu Wen.
Taking Ji He away would allow Lu Yin to learn many things.
Earlier, he had tried to take Rang Yu away, but the man was surrounded by the power of the sourcebox array, and Lu Yin had found that he was unable to immediately break that sourcebox array, which had caused him to fail.
He did not want to let Ji He go as well.
