Chapter 1254 - 1229: Doing Good Without Seeking Recognition
As the black smoke grew thicker, Ye Chen realized that this method simply couldn’t hold out for them to walk out of the building.
With a thought, a protective shield suddenly appeared around his body, but only Ye Chen could see this shield; others couldn’t see it at all.
Everyone covered their mouths and noses with their hands as they walked, and of course, Ye Chen did the same.
The reason he did this was to avoid arousing suspicion in others.
Under Ye Chen’s guidance and the protection of the shield, everyone safely exited the building.
They originally thought that Ye Chen’s method was effective, as they weren’t choked by the smoke, but they didn’t know there was actually a protective shield around them keeping the smoke out.
Even without covering their mouths and noses, there wouldn’t have been a problem.
Luckily, since it was work hours, most people in the building weren’t home.
If there were more people needing rescue, it would have been a bit of a challenge for Ye Chen.
The woman saw her child being rescued and cried as she rushed towards the girl, while the girl ran towards her mother.
The woman and child embraced and cried together; she had been worried about her daughter and regretted leaving a six-year-old alone at home.
If anything had happened to her daughter, she wouldn’t want to live either.
When she saw her daughter being rescued by Ye Chen, her heart was filled with overwhelming emotion.
Holding her daughter, she was about to thank Ye Chen, only to find that he had already rushed back into the building.
The male policeman was also taken aback, not understanding why Ye Chen went back in after escaping with difficulty.
He called out anxiously to Ye Chen, "Young man, young man, it’s too dangerous there, please come back quickly."
But Ye Chen paid him no mind and ran back into the building again.
Recalling what the policeman had said earlier, his colleague was still inside, yet he hadn’t seen anyone.
Ye Chen knew something must have been overlooked.
His heart was very tense, continually praying that the policeman wouldn’t be in trouble.
Ye Chen activated the Thousand-Mile Eye skill to search for the policeman who entered the corridor and also locate the fire’s direction.
Sure enough, on the second floor, he discovered the fire was in a room at the far end, and he found the policeman there.
The policeman was lying on the ground, his breathing labored, and he seemed somewhat unconscious.
Ye Chen knew saving him was the priority, so he quickly approached the policeman on the ground and placed his hand on his chest, gradually allowing the policeman to breathe more easily.
His consciousness slowly returned, and looking at Ye Chen in front of him, he said gratefully, "Sir, thank you."
He thought he would die here, but felt unwilling since he had just been on the force for a year, wanting to contribute to the people.
While patrolling with a colleague, he discovered the fire and ran in without thinking.
However, he didn’t know what to do after finding the fire, having no professional training in such matters, leaving him flustered.
Attempting to extinguish the fire achieved nothing—he was overcome by smoke and passed out.
Thankfully, with Ye Chen’s help, he wasn’t sacrificed in vain.
"Don’t speak. Doing so will cause more smoke inhalation," Ye Chen kindly advised.
The young policeman nodded and said no more.
Ye Chen helped the policeman to one side to rest, then went to the flames, took out the Map of the Country, wielded the Pointing Mountains and Rivers Brush, and once again summoned the rivers to flow.
The fiercely burning flames seemed to encounter a formidable foe, becoming less rampant, the fire gradually subsiding.
Naturally, Ye Chen didn’t let the policeman see any of this.
He didn’t want to cause trouble for himself.
After a brief rest, the policeman joined Ye Chen.
Seeing the diminished flames, he was surprised—it hadn’t occurred to him that the raging fire could be reduced to this.
Ye Chen found a fire extinguisher at home, sprayed it on the flames, and instantly extinguished the fire.
He and the young policeman ensured there were no other fire sources in the building before turning to leave. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Seeing Ye Chen support his unharmed colleague out, the policeman anxiously ran over, "Young man, thank you for putting out the fire, saving my colleague, and protecting public property and life."
The policeman saluted Ye Chen as he spoke.
The onlooking crowd also praised Ye Chen, some even giving him a thumbs up.
"Young man, well done."
"Thank you for saving my daughter."
"Thank you, our hero."
The fire truck dared not come, but some journalist arrived from somewhere.
Ye Chen didn’t want trouble, knowing if the incident were reported, many questions would arise.
He waved goodbye to the crowd.
With his face and body blackened by the smoke, no one could discern his appearance.
Ye Chen moved swiftly, eluding even the police.
Seeing that no one followed, Ye Chen finally relaxed.
Arriving later, the female journalist asked those around, "Where is the little hero who saved lives?"
She had come upon receiving a call from the public, feeling that such stories should be widely publicized.
The journalist had been worrying about source material for this issue but was thrilled to hear about this.
However, she was disappointed not to find Ye Chen.
Upon hearing her, everyone shook their heads, indicating they didn’t know where Ye Chen had gone.
Helpless, the female journalist had to interview the two policemen.
But the police weren’t the ones who did it, and she didn’t gain much information, leaving crestfallen while determined to find Ye Chen, the nameless hero.
She was bent on extensive coverage once she found him.
After all, what society lacks most are young people like Ye Chen, eager to help others.
But finding Ye Chen was like looking for a needle in a haystack; no one could recall Ye Chen’s appearance.
Even the male colleague who had seen Ye Chen earlier couldn’t describe him; the night was too dark.
The journalist knew it would be a long search, but she refused to give up.
Driving, Ye Chen kept sneezing, rubbing his nose, wondering who was talking about him.
He didn’t care; he just felt a bit tired and wanted to return home for a good night’s sleep.
He had more important things to do tomorrow.
That night, perhaps due to exhaustion, Ye Chen slept very soundly.
He slept right through until dawn.
