Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance
Chapter 171: Ready to Leave
2 Guns, 3 Plasma Magazines, 3 Plasa Grenades, Flash Grenades, 3 Varinox Shots, 1 Short Sword, 1 Flashlight, A Human Shield, and A Mask.
That was all the things that Stanley was provided before he was to go on his mission.
The Guns were the latest ones that weren’t even in the military’s hands now. They had the latest computers and software to fight against people with shields.
Stanley didn’t really care about that aspect of the gun. He was just going to be pointing and shooting anyway.
The Plasma Magazines were the bullets that went into the guns. They shot bullets that were pure plasma that burned at a temperature so high that they could pierce through almost anything.
Plasma Grenades were something that instantly opened to send out a bubble of energy all around it, hurting the ones close to it, and even killing them in most cases. They were some of the deadlier weapons that Stanley could use and was surprised he was even being handed that.
Flash Grenades were some things that Stanley had only learned about recently. All he was supposed to do was use it and look away. It would blind his opponent with a bright flash of light.
He wondered how well it would work if the opponent knew it was coming. He could certainly use it separately.
Stanley was used to a Short Sword. It was something he used back in the town too, after getting one from Sheila. All he had to do was squeeze the handle and a sword would form.
He wasn’t sure why, but a flashlight was one of the more surprising things for Stanley among the many items he was given. A portable light that was brighter than any candles that could ever be made was not something he had expected to see.
It was a weird thing to be fascinated by, but in a world where everything was new to him, Stanley was fascinated by almost all of it.
He saw the thick metal disk that was attached to his belt. If he activated it, it would create a barrier that was one of the stronger portable shields out there.
The mask was something to wear if breathing were to ever become an issue due to dust, smoke, or other problems.
Finally, the Varinox shots were something Stanley had been wanting to see for quite some time now. Sheila had somehow turned it off by saying something and only now was Stanley aware how it all worked.
Varinox was a medical company that sold things related to medicine. Their nanomachines that kept a person healthy were one of the more expensive things in their inventory. And the ones that the Association got were a tier above those.
They were specially built for them and were a lot better than the commercial version. Stanley got a shot before leaving as well, which would keep him healthy and would heal his wounds quickly.
Although, the more they had to work, the faster they would run out. Also, they were incapable of curing problems caused by other people’s powers, so only normal illnesses, injuries, and diseases were cured by them.
Once Stanley got everything, he left and went back to his room to get the rest of his stuff. Once it was close to midnight, he went to find Sheila to say goodbye.
They talked briefly before it was time to leave.
Stanley arrived outside at the hangar where all the cars were kept. He waited for a bit and Reena walked out from the main hall.
"Oh, you’re already out," she said, a little surprised to see him there. "I thought I would have to call you," she said, moving past him toward a car.
Stanley followed behind her and walked toward the car. "Where’s Gray?" he asked.
"He forgot something and went to get it. He should be back in a few minutes," Reena said, opening the trunk of the car to put in her stuff. Stanley followed her and put his suitcase there too.
"Where’s your badge?" Reena asked.
Stanley pointed to his belt where the badge stayed attached through a magnet. "Should I keep it in the suitcase?" he asked.
"No, that is fine. You will need it out for it to be useful," she mentioned.
"Am I going to see what it does finally?" he asked.
"Maybe," Reena said. "Will depend on how the mission goes."
She remained by the trunk, not closing it as they both waited for Gray to return.
"How are you feeling? Nervous?" she asked Stanley in the meantime.
"I wouldn’t say nervous, or excited," Stanley said. "It’s more like... I’m feeling nothing. Maybe I’ve yet to realize that I’m going on a mission. It doesn’t feel real yet."
"It will soon enough, hopefully," Reena said. "Although, it will take some time for your part of the mission to actually start. Let’s see how well I can do."
"Ah right," Stanley said. "You are the scout, so most of it will depend on you, right?"
"Yes," Reena said, not saying much.
"By the way, I was curious about something," Stanley mentioned. "I talked to Sheila about the mission and I later realized that she had multiple fighters in her missions."
"Was it because there were a lot of enemies that her mission had so many fighters when I’m going alone in this one?" he asked.
"The difficulty of a mission does call for multiple fighters, but if it wasn’t going to be you, this mission would have at least 3 fighters involved as well," Reena said. "You can blame yourself for being a Nova."
"Oh..." Stanley thought. "So they think I’m strong enough to take on this mission by myself?"
"They KNOW you can take on this mission by yourself. Whether you will or not will depend on your performance," she said. "Hope you do a good job."
"I will try my best," Stanley nodded.
Gray arrived a minute later with a suitcase floating to his right, and something else floating to his left.
The suitcase floated on its own and entered the trunk of the car on its own. The object to his left, though, floated to Stanley.
Stanley reached out and caught it in his hands. The moment he did, he realized he was way too lax to be holding it and strengthened himself.
"Holy..." he couldn’t help but cry out in surprise. "What is this? It’s so heavy!" he said.
"Hehe, open it and see," Gray said.
Stanley looked at the object in his hand. It was something long and thin, wrapped in a thick cloth. He got rid of the cloth and was greeted by a long, very nice-looking sword, wrapped in some straps that couldn’t hide its beauty.
"A sword, for me?" Stanley asked, looking at it entirely.
It was an actual sword. Not a fake one that was mostly used in this place that glowed with plasma around a rod.
It was shiny with a silver-colored blade, a hilt that was about 30 centimeters wide, with some of it closing onto the blade itself.
The handle itself was long, making it easy for Stanley to hold it properly.
All in all, the sword was about a meter and a half long, nearly as tall as Stanley himself.
There was something glowing on the side of the hilt that he couldn’t make out. He tried to touch it, but something blocked his hand.
He looked up and saw Gray smiling.
"Not here," he said. "I’ll have to teach you about the features when we have some time."
"Is this for me?" he asked again.
"Of course," Gray said. "Remember when I mentioned I would ask the engineers to make a blade for you that would work together with your powers."
"Why is it so heavy?" Stanley asked.
"Because you are strong enough to hold and use it," Gray said. "It’s made from an Adamantine-Tungsten alloy, with something done to it to make it one of the most solid pieces of sword ever made."
"This alloy by itself is not that useful since you can’t have it in large quantities, and even in low quantities it’s very heavy, so it’s an annoying metal to deal with."
"Especially given the fact that Adamantine itself is so rare that rarely anyone uses it," Gray mentioned. "What I can say for a fact is that there is no other sword like this out there, not even a dagger."
"Oh," Stanley looked at the sword in quite a bit of awe. "It’s that good?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"It’s strong enough that you could probably cleave through stuff like this car and walls in a single strike," Gray said. "Well, it might cause you some problems if you do slow down time. It will get unbearably heavy if I’m not wrong."
"I’ll have to practice with it," Stanley said. "Will I have the time, though?"
"We have a week that Reena will take to gather information. That’s enough time," he said. "And I’ll teach you about the rest then as well."
"Okay," Stanley said, continuing to look at the sword.
"Alright, keep it in the trunk. We’ll be leaving now," Gray said and opened the door to the backseats before jumping in and sleeping on both seats. "Don’t bother me until we reach Barson."
"Yeah, he gets cranky if he doesn’t get his sleep," Reena said. "Sit at the front."
Stanley nodded and sat in the passenger seat at the front. Then, Reena got into the car as well.
Once they were given the go to leave by the association, the car flew up and away, in the direction of Barson.
