Chapter 187: Up The Floors

Stanley cut his way through many floors of the building, making his way toward the top.

On each floor, he would start by destroying the various cameras while the time was slowed down and then move onto the people that were in there.

His guns killed the ones far away, while his sword killed the ones that were closed. Before the ones that wee attacked even realized they were attacked, most of them all died.

A person or two would survive either because of some shield they had on, or some powers that made it hard to Stanley to kill them. In those instances, Stanley simply knocked them out and moved on.

The most difficult person to take care of had been on the 4th floor where he came across a pregnant woman. He had known about her before even coming and knew just how much of a horrible person she was.

Every single conscious thought in his mind told him to kill her as that would be a positive thing overall. However, he couldn’t bring himself to kill a woman who was so close to giving birth.

After a lot of deliberation, he decided to knock her out and tie her up for the police to handle her.

He continued going up the floors, and on the 6th floor, he came across someone that he couldn’t defeat so easily.

Stanley attacked everyone as usual, but one man didn’t take the damage he was supposed to. Stanley’s first thought was that this was one of them people that needed to be knocked out rather than killed.

However, when he tried to do that, he failed at that too.

He could neither kill nor knock out this man in front of him.

The man had a huge body that also seemed to be quite durable. Stanley wondered what the activation condition for his durability was, and given that the man wasn’t aware that Stanley was attacking him, it had to be either something the man was doing constantly, or had one of those rare post activation condition, rather than the normal pre-activation conditions.

Either way, Stanley could only beat him up until he was knocked out or died.

He swung his sword at the man, sending him flying through the floor where he struck the large walls of the buildings. Stanley arrived in front of hi and slammed down, crushing the man halfway inot the floor.

However, when the time flowed normally again, the man stirred and got back up. He had absolutely no idea what was happening except for the fact that someone was attacking him.

Before he could realize who, however, Stanley attacked him again.

"Why are you stuck on the 6th floor?" Sheila’s voice flowed into Alex’s ears. "Is something wrong?"

"There’s a guy here that won’t die or get knocked out," Stanley said. "I don’t know what to do anymore."

"Just keep fighting," Sheila said. "But hurry up."

Stanley nodded and time slowly down once again. He ran back to the man and started swinging him from every direction.

Swinging a sword this heavy while in slowed down time was not something Stanley was capable of continuing for a very long time. The amount of strength that created was enough to destroy the building by now, and yet the man in front of him was somehow surviving each blow.

Then, as if the powers had ended somehow, Stanley’s sword went through the young man’s body like a hot knife on a piece of butter.

He was so thrown off by this random occurrence that he had to take a step back and process what had just happened.

"The hell?" he couldn’t help but say .

"What? What happened?" Sheila asked nervously.

"This guy I was fighting," Stanley said. "He was surviving for such a long time until he just... died so easily as if his powers ran out."

"It must’ve run out then," Sheila said. "You must have expended his Soul Energy. Once the Soul energy is all gone, there is only so much his body could do.’

"I guess thats true," Stanley said. "Still, that was quite a weird experience."

"Well, stop being weirded out and move on. You have more floors to go through. You’re only halfway there," Sheila reminded him.

"Ah right," Stanley said. "I’ll hurry up."

He swung his sword to the side once and got rid of all the blood before moving onto the 7th floor.

During his fight on the 7th floor, he realized something.

His left sleeve had torn apart at the seam and was quite annoying to keep it around. Stanley ripped the sleeve away and looked at his right arm’s sleeve as well.

While it looked like it was fine, Stanley could tell that it was about to tear at the seam as well. His body was too strong for the clothes to keep up with.

Sighing, he tore that sleeve as well. Now, he wore a sleeveless shirt on his upper body and looked very different from how he was supposed to be with the uniform.

He continued on, going from the 8th to the 9th floor in a matter of minutes. Then, on the 10th floor, he lost one of his shoes where the soles simply came off from the bottom.

Stanley sighed and took off the shoes of one of the dead people that seemed to fit his size and wore it. At the same time, he took one of their shirts as well and wore it.

He fought against the few people in the 10th and 11th floor before finally arriving on the 12th floor where the important people from this branch of the Hunters gangs would gather.

As he walked up, he heard a few people talking.

"Are you sure this is enough to lure him in?" one person asked.

"This is more than enough," another person said. "Its not just enough to lure him in, but also to make him tell us everything he knows."

"I’m scared that our plan might not go the way we want it to," another voice spoke.

Stanley paused. ’What’s going on?’ he thought. ’Are they trying to lure me in?’

"Just secure the girl for now. He’ll come soon enough," the first person said.

Stanley frowned. Something was going on in there and he didn’t like it. Without hesitating, he slowed down time and moved into the giant open hall that was the 12th floor.

As soon as he walked in, he saw 4 people there, all of whom he recognized as people that were the worst of the worst in this building.

Stanley pulled out his gun and pointed at them. He looked at one man after another, all of whom were sitting around a giant table and made sure he missed no one.

Then, he shot 4 different bullet before turning around to look for anyone else that might have been there. Once he saw that there was nobody else there, he quickly turned back toward the men who hadn’t even realized that bullets have hit them.

Stanley let time flow back to normal and sighed as everything was finally over. "I’m done," he told Sheila.

"Wait, I’m monitoring the exits and no one seems to have left. Maybe you did complete," Sheila said. "Wow! Working with a Nova is truly quite great. You don’t have to waste much time at all. It’s only been 15 minutes and you’re done."

Stanley chuckled.

"Alright, leave for now. The police will take care of the rest," Sheila said.

"Okay," Stanley said. "But there is apparently some girl here that these people were talking about. I will find her and leave."

"Okay, do it quickly," Sheila said. "I’ll let the police know for now, but you can’t let them see you."

"I’ll do it quickly," Stanley said and moved toward the table where the four dead men’s corpses were on. He looked at them and didn’t feel much from them at all.

’Am I so used to this feeling that I can’t even tell if I’m feeling it or not?’ Stanley wondered. He should have been feeling the blissful feeling that came with absorbing a soul, and yet he didn’t feel much at all.

It most definitely had to do with the hundreds of people that he had killed in a span of a few minutes.

He sighed and went on to look to see if the girl they were talking about was there or not.

Just then, he saw a future where something struck him from the back and pierced his head in a single attack, killing him.

Stanley felt the hair on his neck grow stiff as he quickly jumped to the side before the attack came. He rolled on the floor once before he saw another vision of his head being blown open by some attack again.

Time slowed down immediately and Stanley moved his head up to see what was going on.

In front of him was a blond teenager in a red shirt and blue pants. The young man held a red staff with a pointed end as if it were a spear.

His hair was more yellow than Stanley’s own hair, and he was currently moving toward Stanley with quite the speed.

Stanley pulled out his own sword and slashed at the young man’s metal staff, sending it away. However, it barely moved enough to the side to not hit him.

At the same time, Stanley swung his sword toward the young man while the time was still slowed down. However, to his surprise, the young man stopped and pulled his spear back before striking his sword, parrying it at the last moment.

He had stopped Stanley’s attack while time was slowed to such an extreme.
