Survival of the Nation: I Can Specify the Items That Will Drop
Chapter 419: The Only Chance (Part 2)
Lin Feng's hand paused for a moment. The Lords Assembly?
He was dazed for an instant.
Is it almost May 1st on Blue Star time? He had entered the Nightmare World... and only two months had passed on Blue Star?
Two months, climbing from the very bottom of the Nightmare World to the very top, accomplishing things that others couldn't do in twenty years.
He silently grumbled to himself: "Am I working too hard? I'm literally grinding with my life on the line, although the Eye of Probability did help a little bit."
He pulled back his thoughts and shook his head at Bureau Chief Liu Zhaowan: "I won't be attending. The Orc Army will be arriving soon, so I really don't have the time."
Bureau Chief Liu Zhaowan nodded: "Understood. I will report this to the General Bureau."
Lin Feng opened the document, scanned a few lines, and frowned slightly.
"According to the intelligence sent back by the reconnaissance team, the Orc Army's target is Qiandai City in Sakura Country. They haven't split their forces; the 300,000-strong army is heading straight for Qiandai City. They are currently just over 360 kilometers away from Qiandai City and are expected to arrive on the outskirts of Qiandai City by tomorrow evening."
Lin Feng put down the document, leaned back in his chair, and tapped his fingers on the armrest twice: "Bureau Chief Liu Zhaowan, why would the Orcs choose to attack Qiandai City? Qiandai City is nearly 1,600 kilometers away from Hangu Pass, which is the furthest route among all options."
"Although the Endless Sea is to the east of Qiandai City, meaning they only need to defend the west, north, and south, it does have a certain geographical advantage. But this route is too much of a detour. How did the various nations' advisory groups analyze this?"
Bureau Chief Liu Zhaowan was clearly prepared and immediately replied: "The advisory group provided three assessments."
"The first, with a probability of about 60%, is to move south along the coast. The flanks would be secure, as the east side of Qiandai City faces the sea and requires no defense."
"After capturing it, the Orcs could advance west along the coastline. Compared to attacking inland cities, they could save about 20% of their forces to use for a frontal breakthrough."
"The majority of the advisory group believes this is a steady approach for the Orcs to advance westward. Although it is the longest route, the security benefits for their flanks in subsequent operations are enough to cover the extra distance."
"The second, with a probability of about 35%, is to lure the enemy into splitting their forces and besiege a point to strike reinforcements."
"The Orcs don't really want to attack Qiandai City; they are using it as bait."
"Qiandai City is far from every other city. Once the human cities send troops to reinforce it, the Orcs can wait in comfort for the exhausted enemy and wipe out the [N O V E L I G H T] reinforcements in batches."
"The third, with a probability of about 5%, is that they have some unknown maneuver capability."
"A very small number of advisors suggested that the Orcs daring to choose the furthest target might possess unconventional rapid maneuver capabilities, such as large-scale teleportation or group acceleration secret arts."
"However, other advisors pointed out that displacement teleportation is inherently a rare skill in the Nightmare World. Even the displacement skills on Gold-tier equipment are mostly within a range of a few hundred meters, and they are basically all single-target skills."
"Based on combat intelligence gathered from other regions, the Undead Race and the Orcs have never used large-scale teleportation skills."
"Furthermore, even if the Orcs had this maneuver capability, why wouldn't they teleport directly to Hangu Pass?"
"If an army of 300,000 appeared outside Hangu Pass all at once, who could possibly provide rescue? Therefore, this option is listed as low probability."
Lin Feng did not respond immediately.
He picked up his teacup and took a sip. The tea was warm, but it tasted slightly bitter.
He didn't really care about the first two assessments. No matter which one the Orcs chose, once he reached the Third Rank, they would undoubtedly be defeated.
But the third assessment... large-scale teleportation?
He put down the teacup, his gaze drifting outside the window, and he suddenly thought of his Great Wall.
The Great Wall can teleport any enemy that enters within ten meters to ten meters away.
Although the distance is only ten meters, you cannot deny that it is a form of group teleportation.
This proves that the rules of the Nightmare World absolutely allow for group teleportation.
With the example of the Great Wall, the probability of the third option should be increased by at least five percentage points.
However, the advisory group's analysis also made sense. If the Orcs really had this ability, why didn't they just teleport over ten days ago?
Why go through the trouble of walking all the way to the vicinity of Dongzhi City before considering teleportation? It makes no sense for the Orcs to do that.
Unless the teleportation itself has restrictions—either the distance is limited, and they must be within a certain range of the target to activate it.
Or they cannot teleport 300,000 troops at once, and the cooldown time is extremely long.
Lin Feng secretly calculated in his mind. Although the probability of the Orcs possessing large-scale teleportation capabilities was relatively low, this was indeed their only chance to turn the tables, so he had to be prepared.
He pulled back his thoughts, sat up straight, and fixed his gaze on Bureau Chief Liu Zhaowan's face, his tone serious: "Bureau Chief Liu Zhaowan, my guess is that the Orcs might possess large-scale teleportation capabilities. Although the probability isn't high, this is their only chance to turn the tables."
"Go back and have the advisory group discuss it again. Give them a clear explanation that this is the only point where the Orcs could possibly turn the tables."
"Have them come up with a defensive plan, assuming the Orcs use group teleportation to arrive outside Hangu Pass, and how we should respond."
Bureau Chief Liu Zhaowan recorded this quickly on the document, her bangs fluttering gently in the breeze from the window.
She closed the folder, took a deep breath, and her voice was a few degrees deeper than usual: "Lord Lin, I will go handle this immediately. I will clearly explain to the advisory group that this is the Orcs' only chance to turn the tables and must be taken seriously."
Lin Feng nodded: "Go."
Bureau Chief Liu Zhaowan bowed slightly, turned, and walked out of the Council Hall with long strides.
Her footsteps in the corridor were quick and forceful, and they soon faded away.
The door closed behind her, and silence returned to the hall.
Lin Feng leaned back in his chair and tapped his fingers on the armrest twice.
Outside the window, sunlight slanted in from the high window, dyeing the dark brown tables and chairs in a warm orange hue.
He picked up the teacup and took another sip. The tea tasted the same as before, but drinking it now, he felt an indescribable sense of clarity.
He stood up and walked to the map hanging on the wall. His gaze shifted from Qiandai City to Dongzhi City, then to Jialou City, and finally landed on the location of Hangu Pass.
Hangu Pass, ten miles due south of Zhenyue City, was surrounded by the Great Wall on three sides, with only the West Gate exposed.
Outside the West Gate was an open plain. If the Orcs wanted to win, they had only one chance: to break through Hangu Pass as quickly as possible before the reinforcements from various nations could arrive.
And a teleportation array was the only straw they could grasp at.
