Surviving in the Beast World with a System
Chapter 389 - 348: A Beastman’s Physique is First-Class (Part 2)
With that, he scratched his head, looking a bit embarrassed.
Wu Yue smiled. "It’s fine. Yuan Lang is going down anyway, so he can just catch me."
Hearing this, Yuan Lang didn’t waste any time. He walked straight over and leaped into the cellar.
Then he reached his hands up. "Just jump. I’ll catch you."
Seeing this, the Half beastman nearby gave them a knowing smile. Wu Yue couldn’t help but blush under his gaze.
But thinking of her worries, she jumped into the cellar anyway.
A third of the cellar was already empty, likely eaten by the males guarding the place.
The remaining taro still looked fresh, and even the cellar walls were dry. Her worries about dampness were unfounded.
This made her let out a huge sigh of relief.
"How is it? Everything okay?"
Yuan Lang had been in commoners’ cellars before, but only to hide from pursuers. He had only glanced around briefly. Although they stored some non-perishable food, those places were nowhere near as spacious as this one.
After filling the basket they had brought and handing it to the Half beastman Warrior above, Yuan Lang simply picked up the little female and leaped out.
Wu Yue’s heart leaped into her throat. ’A million alpacas galloped through my mind.’
’This cellar has to be at least as deep as a regular Beastman is tall, right? Over two meters, and you just jump straight up? While holding someone?’
’Why don’t you just fly up to the heavens while you’re at it?’ When Yuan Lang set her down, Wu Yue felt her legs trembling.
"I didn’t think you had such a timid side."
Yuan Lang said, amused by the little female’s wimpy look.
Hearing this, the System cackled wildly in the background. "That’s right, that’s right! You’re not seeing things! The Dog Host is just a coward with a heart the size of a sesame seed."
Sensing the System’s thoughts, Wu Yue immediately pulled up its panel, ready to deduct all its spending points. But when she saw the pitifully low balance, she decisively gave up on the idea.
’No wonder the System has been acting like it’s going through menopause these past few days. The second I do something even slightly wrong, it goes into full-on roast mode. It must be because it’s broke and has nothing left to lose.’
The two returned to the cave with a full basket of taro, and the surrounding females gathered around curiously. "Yue, what’s that in your basket... Oh heavens, isn’t that the dirt clod that makes you super itchy and sore if you touch it?!"
Among the onlookers, someone quickly recognized it.
Wu Yue nodded. "This is called taro. The juice from raw taro will make your skin very itchy and uncomfortable, but it’s fine to eat if it’s boiled or roasted."
As she spoke, she used a wooden stick to push aside some embers and buried a few taro in the fire.
Yuan Lang took the rest to the pool to be washed clean.
"Could you cut them into chunks for me?" Wu Yue said with a brilliant, toothy grin.
Yuan Lang narrowed his eyes. ’No one in the entire tribe knows the effects of taro juice better than she does. The little female is scared to cut it herself, so she’s making me do it.’
But the beastman was happy to dote on the little female he liked. With a soft chuckle, he picked up the whole basket of taro and walked off.
Wu Yue watched the beastman’s retreating figure in confusion. ’Where is he going?’
But she soon found out.
When Yuan Lang returned with a basket full of chopped taro, the pained cries from the Scorpion Tribe beastmen at the cave entrance could be heard throughout the entire cave.
Wu Yue looked at him, amused. "Is this what they call ’better a friend dies than I do’?"
Yuan Lang raised an eyebrow. "As captives, they can’t just eat and sleep all day."
With that, he went and sat on a nearby stone covered with a grass mat. "Besides, I even gave them a piece of ginger."
Wu Yue silently lit a candle in her heart for the Scorpion Tribe beastmen.
But that smiling sympathy lasted less than three seconds before she tossed it to the back of her mind.
Because the oil in the stone pot was hot.
She poured the previously sliced meat into the stone pot to stir-fry. The fat rendered out quickly, sizzling and dancing in the pot.
She then added some fruits and seasonings she had prepared earlier for flavoring, poured in some water, and let it simmer.
As the water in the pot came to a boil, the savory aroma of meat soon wafted through the cave.
The tribespeople got up and walked out of the cave, feeling a mixture of sweet anticipation and annoyance. Such a fragrant aroma could only mean that Wuyue was making something delicious again.
Thinking back to past rainy seasons when they lacked Beast Skins and food, they suddenly felt that they were living quite decadently this time around.
As the tribespeople came out one after another, they saw Wu Yue, just as expected, cooking something at the largest stove, surrounded by a circle of females eager to learn.
