Surviving in the Beast World with a System
Chapter 428 - 361: Be Sure to Take Care
The Fireball Beast, whose droppings had just been collected, merely glanced up at the Black Wolf Tribe Beastman, let out a soft moo, and went back to eating grass.
Wu Yue got the distinct impression that the Four Great Tribes had sent their Beastman Warriors to be glorified pooper-scoopers for these Fireball Beasts.
The Beastmen followed behind the herd of Fireball Beasts until the sun went down. Only then did they breathe a sigh of relief and begin to hunt and rest.
"If these Fireball Beasts are so dangerous, why doesn’t everyone just kill them all?"
Wu Yue asked Yuan Lang in a low voice, chewing on a piece of roasted meat.
Yuan Lang handed her the fruit he was holding. "I don’t know. I only heard my father mention it before. Apparently, it has something to do with the Beast God. Beastmen aren’t allowed to hunt Fireball Beasts."
"Then what do you do with the Fireball Beast dung you collect?"
The droppings were quite miraculous. After drying, they had almost no foul odor and instead gave off the faint scent of fresh grass.
Just as Yuan Lang was about to speak, a few Beastman Warriors from the Black Wolf Tribe stood up nearby, holding Beast Skin Bags filled with Fireball Beast dung.
They then began to dig a pit right where they were. Once it was about as deep as a Beastman is tall, they opened the Beast Skin Bags and poured the Fireball Beast dung inside.
"You bury it just like that," Yuan Lang explained. "As long as the sun doesn’t hit it, the dung won’t ignite."
Wu Yue nodded. "So for the rest of the time, we’re just going to follow these Fireball Beasts and pick up their droppings, all the way until they head into the depths of the Polar Forest?"
Seeing her crestfallen expression, Yuan Lang chuckled. "More or less. But since we’ll be constantly chasing the Fireball Beasts out in the open, we have to be ready to fight off wild animals at any moment."
The first night was peaceful. No one encountered any danger until the Beastman Warriors from the Lion Tribe and the Flying Eagle Tribe arrived the next day.
And just like the Snow Tiger Tribe, the Lion Tribe and the Flying Eagle Tribe had also each brought a Witch Disciple.
The ones who came this time were likely the Witch Disciples from each tribe with the greatest chance of inheriting the position of Witch.
However, Wu Yue didn’t see the female Witch Disciple from the Lion Tribe whom she had met at the Black Wolf Tribe before.
Over the next few days, although the four tribes traveled together, they kept a subtle distance from one another.
At Wuyue’s request, Yuan Lang took a piece of Fireball Beast dung from his back-basket and placed it in her stone jar.
Night fell, and all the Fireball Beasts huddled together, fast asleep. But Wu Yue took out the piece of Fireball Beast dung that Yuan Lang had given her during the day.
Using a pair of small wooden sticks, she broke off a small piece and placed it in another stone bowl. The rest she put into her System Space.
"Host, what are you trying to do?"
The System’s chubby little head stretched out to look at the thumb-sized piece of dung in the stone bowl. ’If I’m not mistaken, that stone bowl... The host used that to eat from before! Truly worthy of being my host!’
Wu Yue looked at the System. "I want to light this piece of Fireball Beast dung and see how long it burns."
Hearing this, the System propped itself on its little paws and craned its neck. "I want to watch too."
Wu Yue grinned at it. "If you want to watch, then help me. The only fire is in the clearing outside. You have to light this Fireball Beast dung for me."
From her interactions over the past few days, Wu Yue had discovered that the Beastman Warriors here seemed to have an instinctual fear of the Fireball Beast dung combusting.
That was why she didn’t want the Beastman Warriors from the other three tribes to see her lighting the dung.
The System naturally understood her reasoning and was happy to help with a small task like lighting a fire. With a light wave of its chubby little paw, a very old box of matches appeared beside Wu Yue’s hand.
"This is from my stash, from who knows when. It should still work. Give it a try..."
Staring at the antiquated floral print on the box, Wu Yue’s lip twitched as she looked at her System. "Just how old are you?"
The System scratched its little head. "I don’t know. Really, really old, anyway."
Wu Yue nodded. "I’m starting to suspect this box of matches is from the Republican era."
With that said, she slid open the old matchbox, took out a match, and struck it.
Despite its age, the quality was still solid. The match lit on the very first strike.
Wu Yue slowly brought the burning match toward the Fireball Beast dung. As the flame drew near, she could clearly see thin wisps of smoke begin to rise from it.
But the match in her hand was about to burn out, so she tossed it directly into the stone bowl.
The next second, the tiny, dying spark flared up as if it had been tossed into gasoline, and the dung instantly burst into flames.
