Surviving in the Beast World with a System
Chapter 437 - 364: My Affection Was Wasted
After passing a few houses, they finally came upon a courtyard that looked completely different from the others. While the other courtyards had fences made of thick logs, this one had a brick wall built up to a Beastman’s waist. The top of the wall was decorated with a layer of horizontal bricks, making it look quite unique and beautiful.
The layout of the courtyard was exactly as Wu Yue had designed it. A small courtyard sat in front of the several houses, and a small pavilion had been built near the kitchen.
Outside this small courtyard was a larger one. A path ran down the middle of the large courtyard, leading from the main gate to the smaller one. On either side of the path were small garden plots, already set aside for planting.
Wu Yue fell in love with the place the moment she saw it.
The witch piped up from the side, his tone dripping with jealousy, "Beastmen really do have a soft spot for young females. The courtyard they built for you is so much nicer than the one they built for this washed-up old man."
Wu Yue wiped the sweat from her forehead. ’You’re really not suited for making such a pitiful face, old man.’
Inside, all sorts of daily necessities had been prepared. Only the heated brick bed, the kang, was completely bare.
"Yue? We’re here too!"
Two small heads poked in through the doorway. It was Qingcao and Aya, the very two who had been clamoring to come see Wu Yue’s new home.
Wu Yue rolled her eyes in mock annoyance. "Come on in. What are you waiting for?"
The two of them giggled and ran in from the yard.
Looking around her room, Wu Yue had to admit that Teng Qian and Teng Kun had really shown favoritism. Her walls had been coated with something that made them perfectly smooth, unlike the witch’s house, which still showed marks from the binding agent.
Seeing the smooth walls, the witch’s prehistoric fury finally erupted. Huffing and puffing, he stomped off toward the brick and tile kiln. "Those two brats! My walls look like a dog gnawed on them, and they won’t even fix them up. I’m going to find them."
Watching the witch stomp off in a huff, Wu Yue didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
After touring Wu Yue’s house, the Beastman Warriors’ desire to have homes of their own grew even stronger.
After the Beastman Warriors left, Qingcao and Aya still lingered, unwilling to leave. After whining and dawdling for a while, they finally brought in two straw mats from outside.
"Aya and I wove these. We made sure to ask Teng Kun for the measurements of your kang."
Looking at the perfectly woven mats, not a single splinter out of place, Wu Yue was touched. She reached out and hugged her two dear friends. "Thank you."
Wu Yue’s heartfelt thanks, however, made the two thick-skinned females—who had been hoping to score a free meal—feel rather embarrassed, and they slipped away ahead of schedule.
Watching them scurry away, Wu Yue raised an eyebrow, a smug look on her face.
’I knew what those two were up to the moment they walked in. I just got back from a long journey, and they expect me to cook them a delicious meal? So much for sisterly love!’
"This coating on the walls must be the earth that’s excreted by yellow ants."
Yuan Lang said after running his hand over the pale yellow wall.
Wu Yue took Blue Fatty, who was sleeping so soundly in her satchel it didn’t know night from day, and placed him on the kang. She stepped closer to examine the wall. "I never would have thought two Beastman Warriors could be so meticulous."
She looked at the Beastman Warrior beside her. "The houses where you’re from are all like this, aren’t they?"
Yuan Lang nodded. "This is what you’d see from a more well-off family."
He then turned to the young female beside him. "What are the houses like where you come from?"
"Where I’m from?"
Wu Yue murmured, "My country is the most populous in the world. Some people live in simple little courtyards like this, while others live in shorter apartment buildings..."
As he listened to her talk about buildings taller than the highest trees in the forest and chickens that could fly, Yuan Lang found he couldn’t even begin to imagine it.
’I’d previously assumed the young female came from the same land as we did, but now it seems we’re from different worlds entirely.’
"How are you preparing for the trade fair?"
He didn’t want to hear any more about her old world; it always made him feel as if she were a world away. So, he took the opportunity during a pause in her speech to change the subject.
Sure enough, the mention of the trade fair immediately captured Wu Yue’s attention.
Her expression turned troubled. "I’ve never been to one of the trade fairs here, so I honestly have no idea what to prepare."
Seeing her small face scrunched up in a frown, Yuan Lang chuckled. "It’s not as difficult as you think. You just need to arrange a trading area and a place to stay for the tribes attending the fair.
"During the event, the participating tribes are allowed to hunt on the host tribe’s territory, so we don’t have to provide their food."
