While they were putting up a good fight and the enemies were having a hard time getting closer to them because they were too big and their targets were on a single spot, some stray shots began to land on them. Thanks to his high defense, Luke was holding up, but Nambra and Shalia were having a hard time, even though Rina was healing them whenever possible. In the end, Danielle and Sylah came to help, alongside Seirion and some other dark elves that were left behind in the fortress. Things still were getting quite intense despite the help...

Although he couldn’t use it for long, Seirion also could summon the fire orange tornado. He was as skilled as Shalia, but she was better since her level was smaller, so she had more potential. In any case, by combining their spells, the dark elves managed to slay the dark beasts, which was something that the residents of that area had tried, but they always failed... The reason was the fact that they never had any front liners to protect them, and while Luke was alone, he could do that job and be as efficient as dozens of frontlines.

The experience and gold coins earned decreased a bit, but Luke still was obtaining a lot since they were his followers. He started to wonder why the overlords didn’t use that tactic to become more powerful. It was incredibly efficient, after all. However, after thinking for a while, Luke understood why. His followers would obtain half of the experience. So, they would never become as powerful as him. Other overlords would target them first to weaken his hand and to prevent them from making him stronger. Those overlords would also obtain considerable strength while doing that. While it wasn’t an efficient method to kill all possible enemies in the long run, it was better than giving the others the chance to force them into submission and become their followers.

In any case, thanks to the extra help, the battle began to proceed a lot more favorably than Luke had expected. Still, he didn’t drop his guard. Their master, the overlord that created those creatures, could show up at any time, after all. Still, that never happened... The dark beasts were completely annihilated even though most of their enemies were at half of their levels... Luke frowned while watching the sea of corpses around him, it was such a waste to let those die like that... The enemy was really dumb or they were planning something else.

"I don’t like this..." Luke said.

"I also think that something is off here, but we can worry about that later. It seems that the others did their job well," Rina said while looking around and seeing the dark elves approaching.

"Humph! Something like this... It was their obligation to achieve this much," Shalia said.

Since Luke decided them well and they obeyed him and fought as a group, not a single monster escaped the encirclement, and the job was completed pretty fast. The only problem was the fact that the crystals were nowhere to be found. Regardless, the mission was completed.

Rina was right, to the point where even Shalia couldn’t say otherwise. Even better, they were passive skills, so Luke didn’t lose anything by having them. The only problem was the fact that Luke didn’t know how to make them level up. His followers had to fight, or did he need to get more followers?

"It seems you didn’t lie when you said you came to help..." Seirion said. "Some of the dark elves are even saying that your presence are making them more powerful."

"It is just the power of a skill I just got," Luke said.

Strength wasn’t much useful for dark elves, but the boost in health was more than welcome. They gained that without doing anything, after all. In the end, to increase their loyalty, Luke decided to stop being stingy and buy the Overlord’s Blessing of Wisdom, which certainly would help the dark elves.

Soon after, the dark elves began to murmur again, and they looked pretty satisfied. Seirion and the others who hadn’t sworn loyalty to him noticed that Luke had done something to help them again. Thanks to it, they began to have second thoughts about joining his camp without becoming a follower.
