Chapter 301: For myself (4)

While Shalia and Aivern were talking, Rina was watching Luke’s struggle against Drork. That guy was definitely many levels above anything that Luke had faced thus far, and yet, he still refused to be helped. He wasn’t someone who had a death wish, so Rina was struggling to understand why Luke suddenly was acting like that. The Luke in her head was stronger than that. He wouldn’t let the words of a stranger shake him that much.

Rina watched for the fifth time Drork’s sonic punch hit Luke and then rip to shreds a part of Luke’s left shoulder, but this time, he didn’t even react to the pain. Every time he got hit, he began to sweat a little more, and that just happened as well, but Luke’s expression didn’t change a single bit.

Luke charged while using Stinger, Stunning Blow, and Heavy Strike in the next moment. Drork prepared to receive that blow directly with his right claw, but he was preparing to use his left to deliver a counter. Luke didn’t miss that, but he didn’t stop. Drork felt the bones of his fist cracking, and he used Sonic Punch with his left because he knew that Luke would use Checkpoint and returned to his starting point... And so Luke did it. However, what he didn’t predict was the fact that Luke would charge once again, even though the Sonic Punch hit his left side and peeled a lot of his flesh. While he suffered a lot, Luke had the chance to land a direct hit, and Drork didn’t have the chance to block it.

Luke’s ax pierced the Overlord’s chest more than the enemy had expected. He has underestimated the effects of so many Heavy strikes and paid dearly for it. Still, he only lost about five percent of his health. Luke went all out with that attack, so even though he used Checkpoint as fast as possible, he got hit by a kick, and some of his ribs broke. Fortunately, the pain made the enemy unable to continue the counterattack... It seemed that it had been a while since the last time he suffered that much damage.

"You... You will pay for this," Drork said.

Luke took a deep breath since it had been a while since he leveled up, and his wounds were healing. He was receiving a lot of notifications, but the amount of each was decreasing.

"I suppose it can’t be helped..." Luke thought and opened the shop for a moment.

"Congratulations! You have learned the skill Heal.

Heal: it restores five percent of your INT as health per level.

Cost: 50 mana.

"Hey... You are planning to get rid of me or something?" Rina asked. "Why would you learn support skills when I am here?"

"You can keep using them when we fight against other groups when the opponent is alone, I will do this myself," Luke replied.

That battle was technically to save Shalia’s world, and Luke accepted help against other overlords even when they were alone in Rina’s world. So, there was no reason for Luke to think like that. Rina knew that Aivern’s words wounded Luke’s pride, but not enough for him to completely forget about it. That was good since warriors need to have some pride, but it was troublesome as well.

While Drork was getting used to the pain, Luke healed himself to decrease his as well and stop the bleeding. He wished that he had the time to learn Full Received, but he didn’t find the skill even though he had four million gold coins. It was crazy to think that Rina was born with that skill... Her royal bloodline was really something else. He could understand now that her family was so venerated. Still, that only made Aivern’s words even more true. Those two were awesome, while Luke was beyond average...

Luke bit his lips in annoyance to the point they began to bleed a lot, and his health began to drop. It has been a while since he felt like that. To feel undeserving of someone’s love or even friendship. He only felt that three times in his life... The last was one when he asked Amanda out, and the second was when his first girlfriend dumped him. While the second time he talked to everyone about it as a joke, he felt truly depressed. Only his parents noticed that, but Luke had lost the excitement he felt doing many things during that time of his life. That was why his father was so quick to joke about Luke getting a girlfriend. He just wanted to make him feel less depressed like before in case something similar happens. Luke was the type that hated when people pitied him, so it was the only way Mark could use it to help him feel less bothered.

The first time Luke felt that way was when he was almost twelve. Around that time, he was a happy-go-lucky kid that had several friends and enjoyed doing a lot of things with his family. However, things changed when he entered middle school... His friends began to make fun of him more often, and while they did that to each other just as a joke, it became apparent to him that he was being ostracized. There was no malice in it, they just wanted to look funny and become popular in the school, and the only way they found to do that was by making fun of the person in the group they liked the least, and Luke was the kid for all of the other kids of the group. After that, he got away from the from and became an introverted kid...

"I won’t let anyone make me feel like that... ever again," Luke muttered, and his eyes got bloodshot, and his body began to emit steam.
