Chapter 87: Dying Zombies 1.
He chewed on the flesh and blood in his mouth like he was tasting some fine food, almost calm in the middle of the madness. Wang Bo struggled only for a few seconds. His hands flailed weakly, and his screams turned into a wet, dying sound. Then his body went limp and he died on the spot.
After Wang Bo died, Ren Ming’s eyes slowly changed again. They went back to a human shape, but they looked bigger than before and totally unfocused, like there was no thought left behind them at all. He was no longer a man holding on by a thread. He was now a zombie with no human will left inside him. The sight of that made the whole scene even more terrifying, because now there was no reason left to hope that he would stop on his own. He had crossed that line completely.
Bai Li held her kukri tightly and watched the scene with a cold face. She did not want to get involved if she did not have to, but right now she had no choice. Her hand was injured, and if all six of them really turned into zombies, she would not be able to deal with that many at once without trouble. The situation was moving too fast, and once one person became infected or died, the others could not count on luck to keep them safe. Sure enough, Wang Bo, who had been bitten to death by Ren Ming, was now starting to convulse on the ground. His body twitched in a strange way, and it looked like the mutation was already beginning. Bai Li lowered her voice and whispered to Yan Cijin beside her, "Keep an eye on the backpack, I’ll be right back."
"Okay," Yan Cijin nodded right away. She understood without needing more explanation. She gripped the kukri knife with both hands and stood in place, protecting the backpack behind her while keeping her eyes on everything around them. She did not move carelessly, because in a moment like this, even one mistake could turn into disaster.
At that moment, Ren Ming was pressing Lin Da hard against the windowsill, while Zhang Fan was pulling on Ren Mingju from behind with all his strength. Zhang Fan knew very well that if Lin Da also died here, then his own situation would only get worse. Once the number of threats increased, there would be no safe place left for any of them. He gritted his teeth and kept pushing, his face flushed red from the effort. "Dr. Lin, think of something quickly, let’s push together and push him off the building." Zhang Fan strained every muscle in his body, and for a second, it actually created a tiny sliver of hope for Lin Da’s survival.
Lin Da pressed both hands tightly against Ren Ming’s chest, trying to hold him back, then suddenly turned around. Together with Zhang Fan, he grabbed half of Ren Ming’s neck and one arm each, and the two of them forced him hard against the windowsill behind them. This window was the one Bai Li and her group had broken in through earlier, so half the glass was already shattered. The broken edge made the whole place even more dangerous, but it also gave them a possible way to deal with him. If they could throw the person down from there, then maybe they could get rid of the danger before it got any worse. The two men were sweating hard, their arms shaking from the strain, and they kept trying to force Ren Ming closer to the broken side of the window. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Meanwhile, Bai Li charged straight toward Wang Bo, who was still going through his mutation. He was lying on the ground and could not get back up, but his skin was already covered in dense purplish blue veins. The sight of those veins crawling under his skin made the whole thing look even more wrong. Bai Li did not hesitate at all. She swung her knife cleanly at Wang Bo’s neck. Wang Bo was still somewhat conscious at that moment. His eyes were wide open, and he stared at Bai Li with a look full of hatred and venom, as if he wanted to tear her apart with nothing but his eyes. Bai Li did not care. She followed up with another strike without stopping, and this time she severed Kang Libo’s spine. Before he could fully mutate, he was dead. Her movements were quick and sharp, and the whole thing happened so fast that there was almost no time for anyone else to react.
Bai Li’s action was easy and clean, but Lin Da and Zhang Fan were on high alert the whole time. The two men were barely able to keep Ren Mingju under control. Their arms were locked, their faces tense, and their breathing heavy, because if they slipped even once, Ren Ming would either break free or drag them down with him. Every second felt longer than the last. They could feel Ren Ming’s strength changing, becoming more violent and more unstable, and that only made them push harder. The room was filled with fear, sweat, blood, and the heavy sound of breathing. Nobody could relax even for a moment.
Lin da saw the knife in Bai Li’s hand, still dripping with blood, and immediately shouted out, "Help! Help us, or we’ll all die!" His voice was loud and sharp, and it carried that same selfish panic the others had been showing all along. In his mind, Bai Li was the only one who still had the power to save them, so he shouted without caring how desperate or ugly he sounded. But Bai Li stood coldly in place and showed no sign that she was going to help. Her face did not change at all. She simply watched them like she was looking at people who had already made their own bed. From the way these people had acted until now,
