Surviving The Fourth Calamity
Chapter 1808 - 385: The Tower of the Netherworld’s Rebellion
Hill saw the corpses of mages being sent back to the Tower of Dark Enigma for the first time, and it wasn’t just a few; among them was even a fallen Eighth Ring Mage.
The whole world was thrown into panic when the mysterious archmage of Sia Tower failed to intercept the Iron Dragon, and the Tower of the Netherworld unexpectedly ambushed the mage search team.
The Tower of Dark Enigma, being one of the most loyal minions of Sia Tower, always claims everything they do is for Sia Tower, naturally bore the brunt of the attack.
Hill was unsure how Fengo felt at that moment; whether he died peacefully or not, but suddenly he felt a bit more cheerful.
It seems that the Styx had done something before Hill’s arrival.
However, compared to the methods Hill prepared, the Styx believed Hill’s chances of success were greater, which is why they used their pawns as an open move.
After all, as someone familiar with the Styx, the Lord of Hell, Asmodier, couldn’t possibly be unprepared for the Styx.
So, when people from the Tower of Dark Enigma reported that the archmage of Sia Tower was not alarmed and even killed off most of the ambushing mages from the Tower of the Netherworld in an instant, Hill wasn’t surprised.
The Styx probably never expected those necromancy guys to be of any use.
It wasn’t about turning over a new leaf; it was simply because these necromancers had been exposed to the Netherworld’s aura for too long, making it easy for the Styx to control them through certain means.
And Asmodier surely knew the Styx’s capabilities in this matter, so he was already prepared, which was only natural.
Hill could understand the underlying implications in those people’s words: most of those Netherworld mages had been tampered with long ago. Otherwise, how could the necromancers under the Styx’s control be so easily dissipated into ashes by a Hell Prosecutor with barely lower rank divine power?
Even so, some mages from the Tower of the Netherworld survived and continued relentlessly attacking the mage teams chasing the Iron Dragon. Most importantly, they were not afraid of death at all.
The most troublesome part was that without the archmage of Sia Tower, those necromancers couldn’t be killed.
Even if their bodies were shattered, they would quickly return with a new body.
Fengo, although taking this matter seriously, rushed over immediately upon confirming the presence of necromancers.
However, after being caught off guard by the Hell Prosecutor and losing many on the first ambush, the necromancers escaped quickly in subsequent surprise attacks, mastering the essence of guerrilla warfare, never lingering in battle.
They killed whoever they could, and if they couldn’t, they would never delay for more than half an hour.
Yet, Fengo himself seemed more focused on the Iron Dragon.
Despite most mages hoping he would prioritize dealing with the chaotic necromancers over the seemingly harmless giant dragon, as they had begun assaulting some of the heavily damaged Magic Towers.
Even the Tower of Dark Enigma had its share of intruders, only to be eliminated by an enraged Tower Master who returned unexpectedly after losing a few prized students.
Being an Eighth Ring Mage, although claiming to be Ninth Ring, Hill would never acknowledge someone who only knew one Ninth Ring Spell as a Ninth Ring.
No matter how specialized, they should at least be able to unleash a sufficiently chaotic blaze.
Moreover, this Tower Master decisively incinerated the commoners’ graveyard outside the Town of Dark Enigma.
Though the ordinary people of Dark Enigma Town suffered, they accepted this reality, as the power of purification from this world’s earth made the existence of naturally born undead creatures impossible. Most of them never imagined seeing the skeletal remains of deceased friends and family standing before them in tattered forms.
And the ones whose faces were still recognizable were those who had died within two years, looking utterly horrifying. Compared to pure skeletons, people were more terrified of decayed zombies.
When this happened in Dark Enigma Town, the first reaction wasn’t tears over their relatives being turned to ashes, but a sense of being saved.
Although the small family graveyards and mage graveyards near the Magic Towers were still slightly usable by the other side, the necromancers weren’t here for a suicide mission.
Upon realizing their probing had failed, and that the Tower of Dark Enigma still had the capacity to resist, they naturally fled.
Before the necromancers’ ambushes, due to the absolute dominance of the Sia Tower and the governance model centered around Magic Towers, forces like the Tower of the Netherworld, which enjoyed grave digging, were not advantageous in this world.
Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been marginalized to the point of surviving only in inaccessible corners.
And since Asmodier was wary of the Styx, Hill wasn’t too surprised that the necromancers, despite being dominant in the Evil World, had nothing here.
Fortunately, Gilbert’s mentor did not suffer significant losses.
Of course, they weren’t completely unscathed, but the legitimate line of mages above the Seventh Ring remained safe. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Gilbert’s fellow disciple, who entrusted him with delivering a message, had a senior recuperating at the Tower of Dark Enigma send a note saying everyone was safe.
Though Hill felt the primary intent was to inform those with disruptive thoughts that their faction would soon become the strongest in the Tower of Dark Enigma.
Originally, Archmage Ruth was the strongest among the three Tower Masters, only slightly lacking in students and influence.
Yet, amid this unexpected catastrophe, only his faction survived with absolute strength.
Even though they hadn’t fully returned, it was clear to any observer that the power center of the Tower of Dark Enigma was likely to shift towards Ruth.
The moment Hill heard the news, he sensed an outcome that seemed accidental but was meticulously calculated.
The Styx, though possessing its own will, never operated in such a cunning manner.
Instead, the Red Dragon, perhaps, had the skill for such calculus.
Hill was indeed a bit surprised; it seemed that the Red Dragon wasn’t completely coerced.
This was not the attitude a Chromatic Dragon would have when working for others.
Reluctance and apathy were typically how Evil Giant Dragons reacted when forced to work.
Hill quickly contemplated the Red Dragon’s daughter and this world’s peculiar environment. If the world fell entirely under the Styx’s control, it would indeed be an ideal place for the Dragon Lady to ascend to godhood.
Then Hill thought of the Gilbert taken by the Styx.
So, the necromancers’ probing at the Tower of Dark Enigma wasn’t merely a cover for Hill, right?
