When Yan Huan arrived at the hospital, she could hear her heart beating rapidly.

Perhaps it was because she was too excited, or maybe it was due to the rush on the way.

However, as soon as she reached the hospital lobby, she sensed that something was amiss.

The hospital, usually bustling with doctors coming and going, seemed to have a lot of patients today but very few doctors around.

Why is that?

Yan Huan thought she might be overly sensitive, noticing the absence of a few doctors.

Perhaps there were fewer people on duty today, or maybe everyone was in some team meeting.

But when she went upstairs, this feeling was confirmed.

Yan Huan walked to the surgical ward, and as she passed the nurses’ station, a nurse stopped her: "Excuse me, are you Yan Huan?"

Yan Huan stopped in her tracks and nodded: "I am, do you need something?"

"Oh, it’s like this. Someone left a letter for you before leaving, asking me to give it to you. He insisted that I hand it to you personally." The nurse said as she took out the letter and handed it to Yan Huan with both hands.

"Why did he leave me a letter, and where did he go?" Yan Huan asked as she opened the envelope.

"Here’s what happened, Director Ji was called to help out," the nurse explained to her, "We only got this news yesterday. Recently, there’s been continuous heavy rain, and several villages near the mountains in Ningshan County, under the jurisdiction of Nancheng City, have experienced landslides of varying degrees. It seems the casualties are significant, and many hospitals have voluntarily dispatched personnel to help out."

"Huh? When did they leave?"

"They left early this morning before dawn," the nurse replied.

As she spoke, Yan Huan read the contents of the letter, which contained some warm words from Ji Chuan.

The general idea was for her to wait for his return, then they could start renovating their house and get married.

Yan Huan smiled knowingly as she read the letter, regretting that this meant she would have to wait many more days.

She wondered if Ji Chuan would be in danger during this rescue mission, but then again, wasn’t this the nature of their professions?

"How long will they be gone?" Yan Huan still asked.

"About half a month," the nurse thought for a moment and said, "The people going this time will take turns. Director Ji and his group are the first batch, leaving with the local armed police to the disaster area!"

"Alright, I understand. Thank you," Yan Huan said, turning to leave.

This visit was really untimely, but perhaps this was a test from the heavens for them.

A brief separation could lead to a greater, more joyous reunion.

Yan Huan was looking forward to that day.

Returning to the barracks, Xiaomei was puzzled to see Yan Huan back so early.

"Why not stay a little longer? You two have been apart for over half a month; you didn’t even have time for some affection," Xiaomei teased Yan Huan with a smile.

"You think I don’t want to?" Yan Huan was neither shy nor avoided the topic, "Unfortunately, I was late by a step! He went to join a medical rescue mission!"

"What? Where did the disaster happen again?" Xiaomei asked. They had been in closed training outside, with little knowledge of what was happening in the outside world.
