Chapter 110: Surprise attack
However, the attention of the two was interrupted by the gatekeeper. "Hey, Laura, stop!"
Laura turned around, startled. "Whoa! You nearly gave me a heart attack there!" she exclaimed, clutching her chest dramatically. John chuckled at her over-the-top reaction.
The gatekeeper, a middle-aged man with a calm demeanour, smiled apologetically. "Sorry about that, ma’am. Didn’t mean to startle you. I just need you to fill in your identification number and phone details for our records. It’s for safety reasons, in case of an emergency."
Laura laughed, the tension easing out of her. "No worries, you just caught me off guard. I was too focused on getting inside and sealing the deal." She winked at John as she grabbed the clipboard and began filling in her details.
The gatekeeper nodded approvingly. "Better safe than sorry, I always say. We wouldn’t want any mix-ups or delays if something were to happen. Once you’re done, you’re free to go."
As Laura handed back the clipboard, she playfully saluted the gatekeeper. "All set, sir! I’m officially traceable now. Hehee!"
The gatekeeper chuckled as he took the clipboard. "Thank you, ma’am. You’re free to go now. Success, and good luck with your desire."
The air inside the YECO company was brisk and clean, carrying a faint scent of freshly cut grass and the subtle aroma of coffee from a nearby cafe. The sky was a perfect shade of blue, with fluffy white clouds lazily drifting by that indicated a fine day.
Moreover, people were bustling about, each seemingly absorbed in their own tasks. Engineers were discussing plans over large blueprints spread out on a table, while others were moving equipment or tapping away on tablets. It was a hive of activity, everyone working in sync to achieve their goals.
John and Laura walked side by side, absorbing the energy of the place. The atmosphere was lively but focused, a perfect blend of creativity and efficiency. As they made their way to the main building, John couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement.
"Looks like we’ve come to the right place," John remarked, glancing around at the busy scene. "These folks know what they’re doing."
Laura nodded in agreement. "Definitely. You can tell they’re passionate about their work. I’m excited to see what they can do with your project."
They entered the building and were immediately greeted by a sleek, modern interior. The reception area was spacious and minimalist, with clean lines and neutral tones that exudes professionalism.
They stared on a large digital screen on one wall that displayed a rotating slideshow of YECO’s most impressive projects, from towering skyscrapers to innovative industrial complexes.
A friendly-looking receptionist with a neat bob cut and a warm smile greeted them from behind the desk. "Good morning! How can I help you today?"
"Good morning," Laura replied, stepping forward. "We have an appointment with Mr. Raymond, the CEO. We’re here to discuss a potential contract."
The receptionist quickly checked her computer and then nodded. "Ah, yes, Mr. Raymond is abit held. Please have a seat in the waiting area, and I’ll let him know you’re here waiting for him."
"Thank you," John said as he and Laura moved to the waiting area. The chairs were plush and comfortable, arranged around a low glass table that held several industry magazines. The walls were adorned with tasteful art pieces that added a touch of elegance to the space.
As they sat down, John glanced at Laura. "Nervous?"
Laura shook her head confidently. "Not at all. We’ve got this, John. Besides, Raymond is an old acquaintance. I’m sure he’ll remember me."
John raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "You know the CEO personally?"
Laura smiled mysteriously. "I might have mentioned that before, didn’t I? We met a few years ago at a conference. He’s a good guy, very sharp. But let’s focus on the task at hand. This project is going to be something special."
John nodded, feeling reassured by her confidence. "I trust your judgement, Laura. Let’s make this happen."
They didn’t have to wait long before the receptionist approached them again. "Mr. Raymond is ready to see you now. Please follow me."
They followed the receptionist down a wide corridor, passing by glass-walled offices where employees were hard at work. The atmosphere was quiet but purposeful, with the soft hum of computers and the occasional murmur of conversation adding to the air of productivity.
Finally, they reached a large, polished door with a brass nameplate that read "Raymond Walker, CEO." The receptionist knocked gently before opening the door and ushering them inside.
The office was spacious and modern, with floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a breathtaking view of the company store from behind. The walls were lined with bookshelves filled with industry-related literature and awards, while the desk was a sleek, minimalist design, with only a few items placed neatly on top.
Behind the desk sat Raymond Walker, a tall, broad-shouldered man in his early fifties with salt-and-pepper hair and a neatly trimmed beard. He exuded a sense of authority and confidence, his presence commanding yet approachable.
"Laura! It’s been a while," Raymond said, rising from his chair with a warm smile. He extended his hand to her as she approached.
Laura shook his hand firmly, a smile lighting up her face. "Raymond, good to see you again. It’s been too long."
Raymond turned to John, offering his hand. "And you must be a stranger to me but welcome to YECO."
"Thank you, Raymond," John replied, shaking his hand. "It’s a pleasure to be here and now we will continue knowing each other as time goes by."
"Please, call me Raymond," the CEO said, gesturing for them to sit. "Let’s get down to business. I understand you have quite an exciting project in mind."
As they took their seats, Laura couldn’t resist a little playful jab. "So, Raymond, do you remember me?"
Raymond chuckled, rubbing his chin as if in thought. "Hmm, let me see... A sharp, determined woman who knows how to get things done? Sounds familiar. But of course, Laura, how could I forget? You made quite an impression at that conference."
Laura laughed, pleased that he remembered. "Glad to hear it. Now, let’s talk about why we’re here." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Raymond leaned back in his chair, folding his hands on the desk. "Absolutely. John, can I hear from you kindly?
John took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the moment. This was it—the opportunity to bring his vision to life.
He met Raymond’s gaze with steady confidence. "I’ve acquired a square plot of 200 feet, and I intend to build one of the most competitive automotive car showrooms in the entire world. Capital isn’t an issue. What I need is a design that’s not just functional, but iconic—something that stands out globally."
Raymond’s eyes sparkled with interest as he listened intently at a young master. "That’s an ambitious goal, John. I like it. Tell me more about what you’re envisioning."
John leaned forward, his enthusiasm growing as he spoke. "I want this showroom to be more than just a place to sell cars. It should be an experience—a destination. The architecture needs to reflect the innovation and luxury of the cars we’re selling. I’m thinking of something modern, maybe even futuristic, but with a timeless quality. The layout needs to be practical for displaying the vehicles but also engaging for the customers."
Raymond nodded thoughtfully, clearly impressed by John’s clarity and ambition. "It sounds like you’ve put a lot of thought into this. We specialise in creating spaces that are not only functional but also elevate the brand they represent. Your vision aligns perfectly with what we do here at YECO."
John continued, outlining his ideas with precision. "I’d like the showroom to be divided into distinct sections, each dedicated to a different type of vehicle—luxury, sports, eco-friendly, and so on.
Each section should have its own unique feel, but the overall design needs to be cohesive. And I want to ensure that the space is adaptable, with the possibility of expanding or modifying sections as the business grows."
Raymond listened carefully, occasionally nodding or jotting down a note. When John finished, he looked impressed. "You’ve clearly done your homework, John. This is exactly the kind of challenge we thrive on."
Before Raymond could continue, he pressed a button on his desk phone. "Could you send Celestina in, please?" he asked, his voice carrying the authority of a man used to getting things done.
Within moments, the door opened, and a young woman with sharp features and a confident stride entered the room. She was dressed in a chic, professional outfit, and carried a notebook and pen, ready for business.
"Celestina," Raymond said, introducing her. "This is our lead architect. She’s a genius when it comes to turning concepts into reality. Celestina, this is John. He’s the one with the vision for a new automotive showroom."
Celestina nodded politely to John, her eyes sharp and focused. "It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. John. I’m eager to hear more about your project."
Raymond gestured to the chair next to them. "Celestina, take notes. We’ll need a detailed plan based on John’s vision. We’ll also need to conduct a site visit to fully understand the topography and layout."
Celestina nodded as she took out her notebook. "Of course. Mr. John, could you walk me through your ideas? The more details, the better."
John began to describe his vision in detail. "I want the construction to be unique, with a pentagon structure. Each side of the pentagon will represent a different block—Block A, Block B, Block C, Block D, and Block E. Each block will be dedicated to a specific category of vehicles, and the entire structure should be interconnected but distinct in its design."
Celestina nodded, her pen moving swiftly across the page as she took notes. "A pentagon structure is ambitious, but it could be quite striking. Do you have any specific architectural styles in mind?"
