That's How We Necromancers Do Things
Chapter 62 - 60: How Could It Be Him? (Part 1)
...
Meanwhile.
The other members of the Holy Light Alliance also sensed that something was wrong. They all glanced back out of the corners of their eyes.
What they saw made their faces turn pale with horror.
’What’s going on? Where did all these Skeletons come from?’
In an instant, their previously rock-solid formation fell into obvious disarray.
Their formation had been designed to suppress Amadis head-on. The front line was tough, but the Priests and Elemental Mages in the back were all squishy.
Now, with a large number of Skeletons suddenly attacking from behind, their backline had clearly been flanked.
Worse still, they were already facing a desperate counterattack from an enraged Amadis. Caught in this pincer movement, they were like a reef battered by waves from both sides, unable to defend their front and rear. Even trying to adjust their formation was exceedingly difficult.
"Undead?! Where did these Undead soldiers come from?"
"It’s not just one wave! There are more in the woods!"
"Damn it! Which piece of trash from the Undead Major is this?"
Cries of alarm and curses erupted from the Holy Light Faction’s ranks.
The Priests and Mages in the back scrambled to cast shields and blessings on themselves, while also using dispelling Magic.
In stark contrast to the Holy Light Faction’s shock and panic, Amadis, who had been in a desperate situation, was overjoyed.
Although she didn’t know which of her fellow Undead Major classmates was righteous enough to charge through the encirclement to rescue her at this critical moment, this was undoubtedly a heaven-sent opportunity to turn the tide of battle.
"Heh heh... Catherine, you bitch! Now die for me!" A vicious glint flashed in Amadis’s eyes amidst her excitement.
She raised her Magic Staff, and an orb of light from a Weakness Curse instantly shot across the battlefield, landing on a Tier One Warrior in the Holy Light Faction’s front line.
Her Undead Skeleton Mage attacked in sync, adding a Pain Curse for good measure.
The Priests were too busy trying to save themselves to have time to remove the Curses.
Seizing the opening, Amadis sent a command directly to her Undead Army via her mental link.
She commanded them to charge forward at all costs.
The Undead Legion, already intensifying its assault due to her fury, now went completely berserk.
The two Tier One Black Corpses threw their heads back and let out a deafening roar. Ignoring the searing pain of the Holy Light burning their bodies, they lunged at the shield wall with even greater ferocity, battering the defense until it was on the verge of collapse.
The three Skeleton Warriors, especially the one on the Skeleton Warhorse, moved a third faster, repeatedly hammering the flanks like bolts of white lightning.
The Sea of Skulls surged forward wave after wave, desperately using their bodies to drain the enemy’s stamina and Mana.
Seeing the situation change so abruptly, Catherine’s expression grew even more grim.
She quickly shouted, "To the student from the Undead Major, this is a private grudge between Amadis and me! I suggest you stay out of it, or else..."
Before she could finish her sentence, a Weakness Curse flew out from the woods, heading straight for her.
Catherine quickly shut her mouth. As she rolled to dodge, a surge of Holy Light erupted from her body, neutralizing the Curse.
In the blink of an eye, Bone Valor - Witch Demon King and its thirty-plus goblin lackey Skeletons had already taken the lead, charging into the Holy Light Faction’s backline.
Although these lackey Skeletons were individually weak, their sheer numbers were enough to send the Priests and Mages in the backline into an even greater panic.
Some quickly threw up a [Holy Light Shield], others hastily cast [Purification Skill] to dispel the Skeletons that got too close, and one even released a [Resistance Fire Ring] in a hurry, blasting a circle of Skeletons away... For a moment, all sorts of lights flashed as Magic flew everywhere.
However, even though they managed to fend off the first wave of the lackeys’ charge with their professional abilities and without suffering any actual casualties, their entire backline formation had been thrown into utter chaos.
Their casting rhythm was broken, and the once-smooth chain of healing and fire support became noticeably sluggish.
Seeing this, a cold light filled Catherine’s icy-blue eyes as rage surged within her once more.
She gave up on shouting and lunged forward, her greatsword, which shone with a dense Holy Light, slashing straight at the "exceptionally brave" Bone Valor standing among the lackeys.
"Holy Light Judgment!"
At the same time, another Holy Knight and a Holy Priest also focused their attacks and purification spells on Bone Valor.
"CRACK~~!"
Bone Valor had been trying to attack a Priest, but it couldn’t dodge in time and took a direct hit.
Brave as Bone Valor was, how could it possibly withstand a rage-fueled strike from a Tier One Holy Knight, on top of being focus-fired by other Holy Light Professions?
Under the glare of the blazing Holy Light, Bone Valor - Witch Demon King didn’t even last two seconds before it clattered into a pile of bones with a RATTLE.
The coldness in Catherine’s eyes subsided slightly.
’Now that this leading Soul Fire Skeleton is destroyed, this vanguard rabble will surely fall into chaos...’
However, contrary to her expectations, the Soul Fire Skeleton was indeed destroyed, but the goblin lackey Skeletons, far from falling into chaos, became even more organized and ferocious in their assault.
They formed groups of three to five, specifically targeting the High Tier Mage apprentices whose shields were flickering, a clear sign of excessive Mana consumption. Some of them even lunged at the Priests who were in the middle of chanting healing spells.
This was definitely not the behavior of wild Skeletons or Undead that had lost their commander.
Just then, a spatial vortex leading to the Netherworld appeared on the ground nearby. A brand-new Bone Valor climbed out. Another group of several dozen goblin Skeletons rushed out from the woods, and after successfully joining up with the new Bone Valor, they charged forward again, fearless of death.
"That guy’s Summon Skeleton skill is already Tier One!" an Elemental Mage apprentice couldn’t help but exclaim in shock upon seeing this.
You have to understand, if a Skeleton Soldier is upgraded via the Skeleton Enhancement Skill, once it dies, the next one summoned will revert to the rank corresponding to the Summon Skeleton skill itself. All the previous enhancements are lost. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
They had all assumed that Bone Valor had been upgraded to Tier One using the Skeleton Enhancement Skill, so they hadn’t paid it much mind. But now, it was obvious that wasn’t the case.
And because the Summon Skeleton skill is extremely difficult to comprehend, many Necromancers can only barely grasp it and raise the skill to Tier One after they’ve already been promoted to official Tier One Mages. This meant...
The expressions on many people’s faces instantly turned ugly.
’Could it be that among the dwindling number of students in the Undead Major, besides Amadis, there’s actually another Tier One Necromancer?’
What they didn’t know was that Lynch was a cheater with a skill panel. If the monastery were completely open to him, and if he had enough money to buy Awakening Potions, even upgrading Summon Skeleton to Tier Two wouldn’t be a problem.
Just before Bone Valor died, Lynch had instantly taken control of the lackeys with his mental link to prevent them from falling into chaos, and he had even micromanaged them a bit.
However, when the newly born Bone Valor charged forward again with its new little lackeys, it could no longer get to the front.
This was because the main force of the Bone Jade Department had already reached the backline.
It was a mixed unit composed of over fifty Humanoid Skeletons and some goblin lackeys.
By now, they were crushing everything in their path like a torrent of steel.
Meanwhile, under Bone Shadow’s command, the twenty-plus Humanoid Skeletons it led had also blocked the enemy’s escape route from a treacherous and cunning angle.
In an instant, the squishy backline of the Holy Light Alliance was completely surrounded by the Sea of Skulls.
Of course, to prevent any accidents, under Lynch’s "micromanaged" command, Bone Jade and Bone Shadow themselves did not charge into the enemy formation. Instead, they hid far away in the woods, commanding their respective subordinates remotely.
Admittedly, under this type of command, the skeleton army’s combat efficiency and coordination were far inferior to when their leaders were charging alongside them. But it was much safer.
There were too many Holy Knights and Priests on the opposing side. If Bone Jade or Bone Shadow were to be focus-fired and purified, he would be heartbroken.
As for the skeleton lackeys, even the Humanoid Skeletons, they were nothing more than cannon fodder and consumables in Lynch’s eyes.
He wouldn’t feel the slightest bit of pain no matter how many of them died.
In just ten or twenty seconds, the situation on the battlefield had undergone a shocking reversal.
Attacked from both front and rear, the Holy Light Alliance’s formation was in chaos, its backline in grave danger.
Under the suicidal charge of Amadis’s Undead Army, the Warriors and Holy Knights on the front line began to struggle, unable to hold their ground.
As for Lynch’s own troops—the Black Corpse, the Bear Goblins, the goblin warriors, and other core guards—he had kept them back in the dense forest to hold the line.
In his view, the current situation only required the Bone Jade Department, the Bone Shadow Department, and the Bone Valor Department to throw the enemy into disarray, coordinating with Senior Amadis’s frontal assault. There was no need to reveal any more of his trump cards.
And as Lynch’s skeleton army completely disrupted the Holy Light Alliance’s backline, cutting off their healing and fire support, the pressure on the main battlefield instantly reached its peak.
The three Warriors holding the front line were now in a truly desperate situation.
This was especially true for the Tier One Shield Warrior, their main tank, who was afflicted with two Curses. He felt as if his bones had turned to jelly. Every time he blocked the Black Corpse’s lunge, it became exceptionally difficult, and the reverberating force sent waves of pain through him that made him wish for death.
"Hold on~~! Healing~! Dispel~!"
He roared, begging for Holy Light support, but the only response was the panicked screams of his companions from the rear and the dense, clattering sound of countless Skeleton bones.
Despair completely enveloped them.
