Chapter 81: Greetings, My King!

The carriage ground to a halt near the main stables, and the two Hisponian soldiers stepped down immediately. One of them moved swiftly to the side, opening the door and offering a large, steady hand to assist her. Odesse stepped down slowly, her boots meeting the soil of her home pack for the first time in a month.

She paused, closing her eyes to take a slow, deep breath of the northern air, expecting the comforting scent of pine and fresh earth. But the moment the air hit her lungs, a sharp, bitter wave of recognition cut through her. Her face scrunched in immediate disgust, her expression hardening.

The air smelled horrible.

Odesse tightened her hands into fists, her eyes flashing with a cold, fierce glare as she looked toward the main palace solar. "Azure!" she thought, her jaw setting with absolute resolve.

Turning back to her guards, her expression softened into a composed mask. "I shall be back shortly. I have to go see someone first."

The two Hisponian warriors bowed their heads slightly in unison, stepping back to guard her belongings.

Odesse turned and began walking toward the servant quarters at the eastern edge of the courtyard. As she moved across the open square, the night shift workers, stable hands, and patio guards began to notice her presence. A wave of stunned whispers rippled through the darkness like wildfire.

"Queen Odesse..." a laundry maid gasped, dropping her basket.

"Is that... is that really her?" a young guard muttered, rubbing his eyes.

Odesse kept her head high, offering them warm, genuine smiles as she continued forward, her deliberate steps bringing her closer to the low stone well near the brick quarters. There, sitting isolated on a wooden bench beneath the shadow of a dying oak tree, was a young woman with her head lowered in deep, exhausting grief.

Odesse stopped a few paces away, her heart swelling with emotion as a wide, bright smile broke across her face. "Cara," she said softly.

Cara’s shoulders stiffened instantly. Her eyes widened in the dark as she turned her head slowly, as if afraid that looking too fast would break the illusion. She stood up so quickly the bench rattled beneath her, staring at the silver-haired woman as if she had just seen a ghost rise from the earth.

"Odesse?" Cara whispered, her voice trembling.

Tears began rolling down Odesse’s cheeks, catching the pale starlight as she took a step closer. "Cara, it is me. It’s really me." She opened her arms wide, her voice thick with rising emotion. "Won’t you give your returned best friend a hug?"

Cara didn’t wait another second. Breaking into a desperate run, she lunged forward and threw her arms around Odesse’s neck, burying her face into her shoulder in a tight, crushing embrace. "Odesse... I cannot believe this is you. I cannot believe it," Cara sobbed, heavy tears spilling down her face as she clung to her friend as if she were a lifeline. "I have missed you so dearly. Every single day, I missed you."

"I have missed you so much too, Cara," Odesse murmured, wrapping her arms tightly around her friend’s smaller frame, letting herself feel the grounding warmth of a true, uncorrupted loyalty.

After a long moment, Odesse pulled back slowly, keeping her hands gently on Cara’s shoulders. Cara wiped her eyes frantically, her gaze scanning Odesse’s face. "Where have you been, Odesse? That woman... Azure, she told everyone you were gone. She took everything, she..."

"I know, Cara," Odesse interrupted softly, her voice turning firm and resolute. "A lot of terrible things have happened over this past month. But I am back now. I am back to make things right."

Cara cleaned the remaining tears from her face, a massive wave of relief visibly lifting the heavy stress from her features. She pulled Odesse back into a brief, protective hug. "I am so relieved you are here. I am so incredibly happy you are alive, Odesse. You have absolutely no idea what it has been like."

By now, the commotion had drawn the attention of the surrounding quarters. Doors were opening quietly, and several servants began stepping into the courtyard, watching the reunion with wide, disbelieving smiles.

Cara pulled back gently, glancing over her shoulder at the gathering crowd. "The others... they are really happy to see you."

Odesse turned her head slowly, her eyes sweeping over the familiar faces of the palace workers who had known her since she was a simple human servant. Before she could speak, a little boy broke away from the crowd, running as fast as his small legs could carry him. He lunged forward, wrapping his arms around her waist.

"Queen Odesse! You are back! I am very happy!" he cried out, burying his face in her gown.

Odesse smiled warmly, unable to stop the fresh tears from rolling down her cheeks as she knelt down, gently resting her hands on the boy’s shoulders. The other servants watched from a respectful distance, their expressions filled with a profound sense of hope that had been missing from the capital for weeks.

The little boy looked up into her eyes, his small face contorting with a serious, fearful frown. "That evil lady... she has brainwashed the king. She makes everyone sad."

Odesse looked deeply into his eyes, her expression shifting into a calm, fierce promise. She offered him a reassuring smile, her voice steady and powerful. "Do not worry, son. I will make sure to get rid of that evil woman, alright? Everything will return to the way it was."

An older woman walked forward from the quarters, bowing respectfully to Odesse as she gently took the little boy’s hand to lead him back. The boy looked up at his grandmother, his chest puffing out with pride as he whispered loudly, "Grandmother, she called me her son! The queen called me her son!"

The old woman looked back at Odesse, a soft, deeply grateful smile gracing her weathered features as she nodded in silent respect.

Odesse stood up smoothly, turning her focus back toward the main palace entrance. She began walking down the stone pathway, her posture completely straight. Cara fell into step immediately behind her. Even as a human, Cara could feel the sheer, overwhelming change in Odesse’s aura; it was heavy, radiant, and absolutely commanding, completely dominating the space around her.

Cara smiled to herself, her eyes tracking the confident stride of her best friend. "I do not know where you have been, Odesse," she thought, her eyes briefly flicking down to the elegant fit of the traveling gown around Odesse’s waist. "But I am very sure you have been through an unimaginable amount of hardship to come back here like this. You are so amazing... you are truly great."

As they neared the stables, Odesse walked back toward the two Hisponian soldiers who stood waiting by the vehicle. Cara’s eyes went wide as she fully took in their appearances, her mouth parting in surprise as she clutched Odesse’s elbow. "Who are these men? What... what is going on? They don’t look like anyone from the northern packs. They don’t even look real."

Odesse chuckled softly, looking at Cara before turning her attention back to the formidable warriors. "You both can return to the Hispo region now," she said smoothly, her voice clear. "Please tell your king that I thank him very much for his invaluable assistance, and give my deepest appreciation to Prince Ronan for everything he has done."

The first soldier stepped forward, bowing his head with disciplined gravity. "Pardon me, Your Highness, but our orders were strict. We must see you safely past the inner thresholds of this fortress before we are permitted to return to the Hispo region."

Odesse smiled at his unwavering loyalty, nodding in understanding. "Alright then. If you would please bring my belongings from the carriage, we shall proceed inside."

The two soldiers bowed slightly and moved in perfect unison toward the rear compartment of the vehicle. Cara leaned closer to Odesse, her eyes never leaving their forms as they lifted the heavy traveling trunks with effortless strength. "Odesse, seriously, who are they? They look... they look completely heavenly."

Odesse smiled brightly, her eyes flashing with a touch of fond remembrance. "Trust me, Cara, the Hispo pack is a paradise made for Gods’ most impressive creations."

The soldiers secured her belongings, stepping into position tightly at her flank as Odesse turned and began the final walk toward the massive double doors of the palace entrance. Cara walked directly by her side, her face set with newfound confidence, while the two towering Hisponian warriors walked like synchronized shadows behind them.

In the open courtyard, dozens of servants, stable hands, and low-ranking guards stood perfectly still in the moonlight, completely silent as they waited for the impending confrontation to unfold.

Cara’s eyes briefly darted back to the Hisponian soldiers as they walked, her cheeks fluttering with a soft, pink blush when one of the soldiers caught her gaze and offered a subtle, charming wink. She looked forward quickly, her heart fluttering as she focused back on the heavy oak doors ahead.

Odesse stopped at the base of the grand palace steps. She took a slow, deep, steadying breath, letting her cold resolve solidify completely within her chest. She was no longer a victim fleeing for her life; she was the true Alpha Queen, and she was here to claim what was hers.

Suddenly, the heavy mechanisms inside the wall groaned, and the massive palace doors began to slide open slowly from the center.

Odesse kept her head high, her eyes locking onto the figures standing within the brightly lit entrance hall. Standing directly in the center of the threshold was King Valex, his towering frame imposing and rigid. Beside him stood Azure, her green eyes widening in absolute, unadulterated horror as the color drained completely from her face. Her lips parted, a breathless, terrified whisper escaping her mouth. "Odesse..."

Kael stood perfectly straight just a half-step behind them, his expression disciplined and professional, though a faint, satisfied gleam settled deep within his sharp eyes.

Valex stared down the steps, his striking green eyes locking onto the silver hair and the unmistakable, breathtaking features of the woman before him. The confusion in his mind instantly collided with the violent, powerful hammering of his heart.

Odesse looked straight into her husband’s eyes, a sharp, confident, and beautiful smirk gracing her lips as she stepped forward into the light.

"Greetings, my king," she said softly.
