Chapter 132: Painful Memories

Isadora nearly ran to her room after having spent the rest of the day with Jade. Gareth had left them, probably afraid he’d offend her more if he continued staying a little longer, something that she so much appreciated. Jade had told her about her parents the entire evening but Isadora’s mind had been far away to even get what she was saying. Her brain was occupied with her uncle’s thoughts.

Leaning behind the door to her room, she let out the nth sigh of the day. Damn cursed day! She looked at her room, her eyes void of any emotions. Her chest felt heavy with each passing second.

Making her way towards the bed at the center of the room, she let her body fall on the soft material, her loosely let hair spreading on the pillows.

But why... why would her uncle do that to her? Was it because of power? Hadn’t her father not given him enough? Jade had told her Griffin owned the lands that he conquered, and never for once did her father question him. Wasn’t that enough to keep his greedy self on check? But greed was in human nature in itself. They never got satisfied with what they had, but wanted more. But why did he have to kill his brother? Couldn’t he have lent the royal army to conquer another kingdom and make it his own?

However how much she tried to keep her emotions on check, as Jade had instructed, the more the urge to burst into Griffin’s room and give him the most gruesome death she could ever imagine intensified. And coupled with the thought that they were under one roof, it was almost driving her insane. Someone had to die for her to calm down.

She felt her dagger by the side of her bed making her to momentarily forget about Griffin. It was safely sheathed in its leather scabbard. This dagger reminded her of her mother. Jade had said that it was a family’s heirloom. This made her even more overprotective of it. And it was with this same dagger that she was going to end Griffin’s life. Only then could her soul, mind and body be at peace.

"I’ll avenge you Mother and Father. He is going to pay for everything he did to you!" She said staring at her parents photos in the portrait on top of the dresser.

Unsheathing the dagger, she let her fingers run on the sharp edge when a memory she least expected popped in her mind.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" A shy Isadora asked, avoiding Alexander’s probing gaze.

"Because I want answers Isadora. Where the hell did you get this?" A not so happy Alexander asked revealing a sheathed dagger.

Isadora frowned at the sight of the dagger. Had Alexander been going through her things? "I was given that by my mother, given by a royal friend if you want the details....

Oh, how she missed Alexander! How she missed working as his personal maid. She smiled when she remembered how Alexander used to punish her every time she avoided his advances. And the kiss! Her hands instinctively flew to her lips as she remembered that day. He had kissed her without reservation, knocking the air out of her lungs. And that was her first ever kiss. Alexander had given her the chance to experience her womanhood, but what did she do in return?

The thought brought a hollow feeling in to her already broken heart. While Alexander truthfully loved her, she got closer to him with the desire to kill him! Was that fair? But thanks to his honest feelings for her, she found herself unable to lay a finger on him. The poison incident! It was like it happened for a purpose, to her favor. Had it not happened, she would still be trapped in the Valorian palace unable to decide between love and her desire for revenge.

But she foolishly believed that the Valorian royal family was the one that killed her parents, and even went a step further to trying to kill their crown prince. Would Alexander really forgive her for what she did, or if he ever knew what her ill intentions were? Snap out of it Isadora! He’s your enemy now, you’re heading to war remember! Oh how could she have forgotten this?

"Alexander is getting married!" Gareth’s words resonated in her mind. Remembering these words alone brought a throb to her heart. But why was she feeling this way? Wasn’t she the same woman who declared that she hated Alexander, even regretting for having fallen for the enemy? A scene of Roselyn kissing Alexander popped in her mind and she didn’t notice how hard she clenched the sheets. The thought of Alexander marrying another woman didn’t settle well with her. But why did he accept it? Didn’t he love her, or had he forgotten about her? Why was she even thinking about him when he didn’t consider their love before he foolishly agreed to marry... Her name alone was pain in her whole body. How she hated that woman! What was it that Alexander saw in her? And if her mind served her right, Isadora could remember Alexander never loved that woman in the first place. Was he like kind of forced to marry her? But the Almighty Alexander did what he wanted, so even if he was forced to marry her, he had to give his consent!

Her shoulders dropped as she allowed herself wallow in self pity. That meant only one thing, Alexander didn’t love her anymore. The thought alone was more painful than a stab in the heart. She didn’t even notice she was crying.

But why was she blaming him in the first place? Love was not her top priority in the first place. It just happened that he was the perfect man for her, but all that was in the past now. She needed to let go of the pain and move on. Rosslyn loved Alexander whole heatedly, while she only meant harm to him. She didn’t deserve him! He deserved to be happy, and she wasn’t just the perfect woman to make him be!
