The Assassin's Redemption: A Princess's Journey to Forgiveness
Chapter 139: Soulmate
The final roll nearly crushed every muscle of Alexander’s body. The previous two rolls had had his ribs broken rendering him immobile, but as determined as he was, he finally made the last one. Now every fibre in his body was screaming with pain. He let out a loud groan. The white beam of light was just an arms reach away but couple he make it. Could he even move? He had thought accomplishing the rolls successfully was the hardest part but this proved to be the toughest. How would he even reach there when he couldn’t even do a simple action like lifting his arm?
This proved to be the end! He was hopeless now! Just at arms reach! He so much wanted to get there but would his body let him? He looked as good as dead, given the condition he was in. He tried to lift his limbs but the pain! Damn it! His body was as good as useless. He cursed, eventually giving up.
For a moment, he just lay there facing the void of a ceiling while trying to catch his breath. His family! They were in danger! The tornado might have gathered by now.
"Alexander?" He looked at the direction of the voice startled. It was her! The woman in his daydreams.
"What are you doing here?" He asked trying to lift his head, but the pain made him to give in, resting his head on the cold floor.
"I came to help you," she said approaching where Alexander lay.
"Help me!" He sneered. "You could have helped me by telling me the truth!" He yelled but the pain came again making him groan.
"Not that I don’t want to tell you the truth Alexander. It’s..."
"It’s what?" Alexander asked despite the pain he was going through.
"I don’t want to see you going through this. I want to take away your pain, all of it," she said crouching at his level. Alexander said nothing to that. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"May I?" She asked placing her hand on his sweaty forehead. Alexander didn’t know what she wanted to do but if it meant to cure him, then he was okay with it. He nodded at her and she smiled back at him. That smile that made Alexander feel like melting into her embrace. Who the hell was she, and why couldn’t she tell him who she was or who he was? Maybe he should ask her once this was over. Was she even human? Her skin tone was one he had never seen before. It was neither Valorian nor Crescian. It was like she was in between.
He saw her close her eyes lightly before she began mumbling a few words Alexander couldn’t decipher. And the next thing he knew, a white halo materialized from her hand enveloping his whole body. Relief washed over him and he could feel like his muscles and bones were stitching together. But funny enough, he didn’t feel any pain. Strange, he thought.
"The magic will have a lasting effect and will replenish, healing you over and over." She said surprising Alexander. Her magic was that strong! He sat up, rubbing his sore back and flexing his tired muscles. The simple task had taken a toll on his body, and wait... Didn’t she walk the same path as him, effortlessly at that? But how?
"How did you do it... come here effortlessly?" He asked dusting his pants.
"This is the world that you have created, and it can only affect you. You also have the power to control it," she said. Alexander’s face grew a few shades darker. Did that mean he brought this upon himself? And he could end it? But how?
"Why... why can’t you tell me the truth about yourself or who I am?" He chose to ask this instead. The woman looked at him before she let out a sigh.
"Because if I do, something bad might happen to both you and me," she said, avoiding Alexander’s gaze all the while.
"And what is it that will happen to you... and me," he added as if he didn’t mind something bad happening to him.
"I’m afraid I can’t tell you that either.."
"If not you, who will tell me then?" Alexander asked, raising his voice at her. He raked his fingers through his already messy hair trying to maintain his cool. What he wanted was answers but she was doing the exact opposite. He didn’t care if he died knowing the truth.
"Your family... They’ll die if you don’t end the destructive force you created in your room," she reminded Alexander. He smirked at that. He was already where he wanted to be, so he simply walked into the bright light and curtailed it’s supply. How he did that, he couldn’t explain. He wanted to reach at nothing but the truth.
"Done!" He said turning to face her. "Now tell me everything that I want to know. I don’t care if I die after learning it!"
"There is another way to do this Alex. You don’t need to hurt yourself," she said, worried by his relentless nature.
"Is there?" He asked eyeing her the way a predator would to its prey, his gaze never leaving hers. She was held into position by his gaze, as if spellbound.
"Yes there is." Alexander halted on his tracks. Why didn’t she tell him this earlier. And what the hell was this way?
"I’m sorry I never told you this before..."
"It’s alright. Just tell me the goddamn way!" He said, unable to retain his curiosity any longer. The woman swallowed nervously at his probing gaze.
"There is a woman," she began, making Alexander’s face turn a few shades darker. Women again? He was tired of women!
"What about her?" He asked. The fact that a woman was the one to give him answers to his questions angered him to the core.
"She is meant to be your mate. And this woman is the only person who can give you the answers to your questions." Alexander scoffed. Soulmate?
"Who is she and how do I find her?"
"I don’t know that either but I do know her name. It is written in a prophecy." Prophecies again? Alexander rolled his eyes.
"And what’s her name?" Alexander asked, raising a brow.
"Isadora!"
