Chapter 150: Huge Mistake

Newton let out a sigh of relief when Isadora finally reached to her room. God knew the suffering he had undergone by just walking beside her. And still, he couldn’t help but throw furtive glances at her inviting thighs.

"I’ll be fine from here," Isadora said. A look of disappointment filled her face when she caught him staring at her legs. She raised a brow at him instantly pulling him back to reality.

"Um... I guess I should be leaving, " Newton said before he took a few steps away from her before he disappeared in the corridor as fast as he could.

Isadora was left awed by this. What the hell had happened to the Griffin she knew? Or was it Jade’s doing? It must be her. Why else would he behave so strange?

Newton let out a sigh as he leaned on the pillar of the palace. He had tried his best to act like Griffin but seems like it didn’t work. He could tell Isadora knew something was off by the look on her face every time he talked to her. He shouldn’t have taken this risk in the first place. One day was not yet over and it was already proving to be harder than he had thought.

"Damn it!" He cursed, clenching his fists into tight balls. Did he overreact? Would Griffin escort his niece? Oh hell no! He screwed everything all in the name of a king. Smoothening his hair with the back of his hand, he pushed thoughts of Isadora at the back of his mind and decided to head to his chambers, Griffin’s chambers to be precise. He had to do everything as a king!

"Your Majesty," the knights on guard greeted as he passed by. At least this lighted his mood. Being Griffin was not all that bad. He had enjoyed a royal meal and had been treated with respect all day. He had to enjoy the feeling while it lasts.

Taking a corner by the hallway, he spotted the dungeon a few meters away from the king’s chambers. An idea struck his mind and now that he was a king in disguise, this was the perfect chance to do it. ’Change of plans,’ he thought, diverting to the dungeon route.

Upon seeing The King approaching where they were, the knights on guard stood up instantly and greeted him in honor.

"What brings Your Majesty here at this hour?" One of them, who looked bulky, and probably a captain asked. His tone was that of respect even though he was asking a question. These guys were strong, Newton could feel it. They must be part of Griffin’s elite group.

"How dare you question Your King?" Newton asked, acting like the rough and tough king Griffin was. Not that he cared about their opinions though. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

"Apologies Your Majesty," the Knight said.

"I want to talk with him, alone," he said gesturing towards a curled up Zed.

The knights nodded before they opened the cellar and stood on guard outside as if they didn’t hear Newton say the word alone. He noticed this and shot them a hard glare, making them to look at him confused.

"Should I explain the meaning of the word alone?" Newton asked. He was certain Griffin would have asked the same. They were just good at annoying him.

The knights understood what he meant and left, though reluctantly.

"His Majesty instructed us to let no one in the dungeon even though it was him, especially during night time. Don’t you think it’s weird guys?" The bulk knight asked his colleagues once they were at a safe distance where Griffin could not hear what they were talking.

"It’s unlike him to turn against his words," another knight who had red hair contributed as well.

"I also noticed a change in his aura. It was like we were equal if not great in power," the third guy said. He was the only one in the group who seemed keen and observative.

"But he’s still our king, and we have to respect him even though he goes against his words. And it’s just the first time guys so take it easy. It’s not like he led us to a battle where we would die," the last man, who had been silent all the while complimented. His colleagues just stared at him but said nothing to that.

Newton let out a sigh when all the knights had left. They seemed to be hard to deal with, Griffin’s exact type. Maybe that was why he trained them personally.

"What are you doing here?" Came Zed’s question. Newton’s gaze shifted to him and met Zed’s who was now dusting his pants. "You came to kill me?" He asked, staring into Griffin’s eyes and wait...

"I have no intentions to kill you," Newton said. He stared back at those silvery eyes that ignited alien feelings in his being. And his hair.. How would feel like to run his fingers through..? Hell what was he even thinking?

"You are not him,"Zed said shaking his head lightly. Newton furrowed his brows at that, his heart beating close to his ears. Was it what he was thinking? Had he seen through his disguise? But how?

"I’m not who?" He asked, pretending to be in the dark.

"You know what I’m talking about," Zed said with a smirk.

"No, I don’t, " Newton replied, his face shifting all shades of dark. He was really good at acting. Zed rolled his eyes. Did he really want him to state the obvious?

"You are not Griffin... Lord Newton," he said, rolling his eyes as if telling him this had taken a toll on his mind.

Newton tried to say something but his mouth ended opening and closing like that of a fish. Who had told him to come here in the first place? And the burning question, how did he know about this? No one had ever seen through his disguise that directly.

"I’m sorry but I don’t know what you are talking about," he said, turning around to leave. Maybe it was a huge mistake coming here.
