The Assassin's Redemption: A Princess's Journey to Forgiveness
Chapter 153: Reverse Royal Chase
Looming danger and unrest hung in the air as the two godly beings stared daggers at each other, waiting for either to make the first move. The Crescian knights could only hold their breaths as they anticipated what was coming in baited breath. But one thing was for sure, a great disaster awaited!
Alexander gathered his vortex as well, hell flames materializing behind him in the shape of dragons, ready to attack at their liege’s command. Griffin couldn’t hide the fact that he was scared. This was fire for heaven’s sake. But if he could gather enough ice, Alexander’s fire would melt it and extinguish his fire. His own waitress would betray him. A wicked smile curved on his face at the thought.
Now! He acted dodging a fire ball that was coming his way escorting it with ice that instantly extinguished it. Not bad, he thought.
But Griffin would be at a disadvantage would he overexert himself. Using one’s powers came at a price, a huge one if you’d cross the limit. He didn’t know of Alexander’s case so he had to be careful.
"Is that all you’ve got?" He asked, gathering a ice ball in his hand. And though small, this one was destructive. Griffin sent it in Alex’s way, the tiny ice ball multiplying into several balls that increased in size with time. This was going to be catastrophic if Alexander acted a second late.
Alexander had anticipated for one ice ball but now they were several, catching him off guard. He had to act, swift at that or else... But what would he do? It was already too late. The fire ball in his hand could only vaporize one ice ball. His gaze narrowed before he placed his hands in front. Would it work? It had to!
The balls were now close but to his surprise, the dragon behind him spit fire at the balls instantly vaporizing them into steam. He looked up at the dragon in a meek gesture. It had saved him.
"Your Majesty? The Valorians are coming!" The Crescian knights announced catching the attention of both Alex and Griffin.
"You are lucky I have to go," Griffin boasted. The Crescian knights were greatly outnumbered by the incoming Valorian army so it would only be a waste of time fighting them. "Retreat!" Griffin yelled at his knights as he landed softly on the ground.
"And where do you think you are going?" Alexander asked also landing after Griffin. The dragon had vanished leaving a flaming Alexander standing. His eyes looked red like the devil’s, hell flames to be precise. The moment his feet landed on the ground, the dry leaves around caught fire, instantly spreading around the area he stood.
The fight was far from over yet Griffin wanted to leave? How scandalous! It was a duel, and a duel had its rules, something that Alexander was pretty sure Griffin knew of. Either this was a lame excuse to run away or an act of cowardice.
"I can’t let my men die," he answered. The general came over to him and handed the reins of his horse to him.
"I’m afraid I can’t let you leave that easily," Alexander said, taking a step closer.
"I don’t have time for this. You take care of him," he said, addressing the statement to the general before hopping on his horse. He gave Alexander a smug look before he urged his horse forward leaving a shaking general to confront with Alexander.
Alexander didn’t have the time to waste on this inferior being. He just needed to roast him and run after Griffin. He was going nowhere! He would catch him, even if it meant setting the whole forest ablaze.
"I’m sorry Your Majesty, please forgive me!" The general said as fast as he could when he saw Alexander raise his hand ready to turn him into ashes. He didn’t want to die that soon.
"Tell me why I should spare you?" Alexander asked, his hand hanging mid air. This guy was wasting his precious time while Griffin was eloping. What could stop him from turning him to a ghost of the woods?
"I will tell you where the camp is," the general said holding his hands in a defensive gesture as if that would shield him from getting burnt. The Valorian knights had already crossed in by now spotting a flaming man in the clearing who was talking with a Crescian. They presumed the two were Crescians and one of the knights readied his bow ready to strike the flaming man when...
"You idiot! You want to kill His Majesty?" Came Victoria’s angered voice. She was now alighting her horse hurriedly without anyone’s help before she dashed to the Knight staring daggers at him.
"But he’s Crescian Your Majesty. His Majesty does not get enveloped in flames."
"Are you questioning my decision? I said no one is to shoot until I say so. You go after the Crescian, I’ll deal with this," she said sending a section of the squadron towards the direction the Crescians had freed to. She let out a sigh before her gaze shifted to the two people standing in the clearing.
Victoria took measured steps towards where Alexander was standing. She still couldn’t believe what she was seeing was true. Alexander was flaming indeed! Her son had controlled his powers! But she never imagined he could be this powerful.
"Alexander?" She called instantly catching his attention. "Thank God you are alright. I was so much worried about you." Gods knew how much she yearned to hug him that time but the flames stood on her way.
"Mother? What are you doing here? It’s not safe," Alexander asked, worry edged in his voice. The last thing he imagined of was to have his so called mother in the middle of a battle. She was still his mother, and would forever be. His worry for her helped greatly because the flames on him gradually died down, prompting the general heave a sigh of relief.
"Griffin! I need to go after him," Alexander said. Looking around, he spotted midnight grazing behind a tree as if he cared for nothing in the world. Seems like the royal chase had been reversed.
