Chapter 72: Another one

"No way! I’m not leaving my daughter behind," Felista voiced. Henry halted on his tracks before he gave her a hard glare. She could see that he was hiding his emotions in his blue eyes. He was clearly hurt by this but he was pretending to be all fine.

"Look. It’s either you follow me or you stay here and lose your title as queen as well," he said, running his fingers through his hair. This was now proving to be tough than he had thought.

"How could you? She is your daughter? Don’t you have a shred of humanity in yourself?" she asked. She couldn’t understand why a father could disown his own child. "If that is so, I’m not leaving as well. Just disown me. Strip me of my powers as a queen and as your wife if you have the courage to," she said, her voice louder this time.

Gods! This was bad now. King Henry clenched his fists tightly. How had it even come to this? He just wanted to scare Roselyn but it turned to be something else. And now, his wife was involved as well. How could he survive without two of the most beloved persons he had in the world. With Roselyn it was fine, but with his wife, it was tough. He searched for her face and what he could see was clear determination. She won’t give up on it easily. He tried to say something but no words came out of his mouth.

"See. You don’t have the audacity to dethrone me, yet you have the one to disown our daughter?" She asked, crossing her arms over her chest. "I’m not leaving as well. I don’t care if you disown me or disinherit me. All I want is to stay with my daughter."

"I will be alright mother. You can just go with father," Roselyn tried to change her mother’s mind but it didn’t work.

"I got this dear," was all her mother said to her.

King Henry was now confused. But if he let his wife be, what kind of leader would he be? He wanted each of his act or words be like those of a king, everytime. And favoritism was not a character of a good leader. If he favored his wife more than Roselyn, what would that make him? But he still held a soft spot for his wife. But he wouldn’t dare force her to come with him. And he didn’t want to lose her either, so he did what he had to do.

"Fine. You can stay here as much as you want. Feel free to come to Arcadia whenever you want," he said and without a word to her, he turned to leave when he took notice of Sir Brandon. He walked closer to where the knight stood.

"And you, are you staying or coming with me?" He asked.

"I would love to Your Majesty but I have sworn an oath to serve Princess Roselyn. I have to abide to my duty," he stated simply.

King Henry just nodded simply. He knew better than anyone else what an oath meant to a knight. He turned around and took one last glance at the people around, his gaze lingering longer on Roselyn and Felista before he left. Everyone watched as the Arcadian Royal Carriage left the palace with a mix of emotions.

"I can’t believe father disowned me," Roselyn said looking at her hands in disbelief.

"It’s alright dear. We are in this together," her mother said and patted her back softly. "He’s just angry now. He’ll soon realize what he has lost when he becomes lonely," she added.

"Since you chose to stay in our kingdom, I’ll arrange a room for the both of you," Queen Victoria said. She had been silent for a long while as that was a family matter, though she was the reason why all that had happened.

"Will he come on the marriage ceremony?" Roselyn asked searching for her mother’s face. She at least wanted her father to be present and see that she was indeed happy.

"I don’t know," was all Felista could say.

"I bet not," Brandon chimed in. "He can’t afford to give you the satisfaction that he will indeed miss the both of you. He’ll try to convince himself that by not attending your wedding, you will think he doesn’t miss you."

"That is somehow true," Felista nodded.

"I’ll keep going. Sir Brandon will take your things in the guest room," Queen Victoria said. Felista nodded and Victoria excused herself. She had faced the worst day in her life and she needed to take a nap. Her husband’s funeral, Alexander waking up and almost being killed, Griffin’s demands, the marriage topic and now two disowned guests. All that was probably too much for her.

And as she walked, she felt somehow dizzy. Supporting herself with the hallway’s wall, she tried to catch her breath. Why was it suddenly hard to breath? Her mind felt foggy and heavy and she could feel the world spinning under her feet. And she was falling. She closed her eyes as she anticipated the pain to come. But instead, she felt strong arms around her waist. She blinked twice before she made out a figure of what looked like Lord Richard.

"Forgive me Your Majesty but I have to take you to your room." She didn’t protest. A thank you was what she wanted to say but the words refused to come out, so she just smiled weakly at him. Her eyelids suddenly felt heavy and it was now hard to keep them open. The world started fading slowly from her sight as she slowly succumbed into the darkness. The last thing that she saw was a worried Richard urging her to stay awake. But the words were now distant in her mind. She could only see his lips moving as if he was reciting a mantra before everything turned black.
