The Billionaire CEO Wants to Marry Me Every Day
Chapter 842: Critical Moment
Summer Monroe could tell the moment she smelled it: this Heart Protection Pill wasn’t the common kind you saw on the market, but a drug that actually protected the heart and cardiovascular system.
In an emergency, it could temporarily keep someone alive.
This medicine was definitely expensive, but judging from how this couple was dressed, they probably couldn’t afford it.
Thinking of this, Summer quietly took the bank card out of her pocket, planning to pay for the pill for the couple when it came time to settle the bill.
"How could this suddenly happen?"
Summer heard Caleb Woodward asking the girl’s parents, "Hasn’t she been recuperating properly at home since the heart surgery? This shouldn’t be happening. Did she do any strenuous exercise recently?"
The woman wiped her tears, sobbing so hard she couldn’t even form a complete sentence.
The middle-aged man was a bit calmer and answered Caleb Woodward, "Thanks to your care, after your sister did Faye’s surgery for free, Faye really has been resting at home. Forget strenuous exercise, we don’t even let her get out of bed. But just now, I don’t know what happened, she suddenly became like this."
Caleb’s expression was severe as he carefully took the girl’s pulse.
A few seconds later, Caleb said, "Based on what happened just now, this looks like a severe allergic reaction. Before her heart surgery, I had the hospital run an allergen test on her. She’s allergic to penicillin and bees. Has she been exposed to either of those recently?"
The girl’s father shook his head. "We all know she’s allergic to penicillin, there’s no way we’d let her get near that stuff. As for bees... there aren’t any bees anywhere near our place, and she hasn’t even stepped outside her bedroom door."
"That’s strange..." Caleb frowned. "We have to find the allergen before her second episode, otherwise we can’t treat the root cause. Think carefully—is there something you might have overlooked? Or has anyone visited your home recently? It’s possible a guest accidentally brought in a bee or something."
"Well..." The couple both shook their heads. "We shouldn’t have had any visitors. We work until past midnight every day, and other than you occasionally coming by to check on Faye, no one would bother going to that dump we live in."
Just then, Caleb noticed several red patches appearing on the girl’s arm.
"This is an allergic manifestation. Try to recall if anything’s been off these past two days."
Right at that moment, the girl called Faye woke up.
"Faye!" Her father hurriedly asked, "Has anyone visited us at home these last two days? Have you been stung by a bee?"
Faye shook her head and tried to sit up, only to be stunned to discover that her legs wouldn’t move at all.
"Let’s get her to the hospital first," Caleb said. "Have them run a full-body workup."
"The hospital..." The couple looked conflicted.
Before they could speak, the girl herself said, "Doctor Woodward, we really don’t have money to go back to the hospital. Just prescribe me some medicine. I don’t want Mom and Dad to work that hard anymore."
The woman covered her face and started crying again.
Caleb frowned. "I thought it was something serious. I’ll front you the medical expenses. How can money be more important than a life?"
Crying, the woman said, "Doctor Woodward, we already owe you too much; we can’t keep owing you. You paid for Faye’s heart surgery before, we really can’t be indebted to you again this time."
Just then, a woman’s voice suddenly cut in, "It should be tick paralysis."
