The Broken Halo
Chapter 493: A Falling Star
The sight of dozens of ice monkey sculptures surrounding First Blade stunned Simon and Lucien.
"That old demon is a fool." Lucien suddenly said, and Simon looked at him.
"Why do you say so?"
Lucien shook his head slightly with a disappointed expression.
"If he wanted to survive against the Winter Monkey, he should have killed it when it was still chained and restricted."
"The environment gives the Winter Monkey a massive advantage. It might look like he’s consuming a lot of demonic energy, but he’s actually consuming less than half of what he should be consuming."
Lucien paused, then he gestured at the Winter Monkey whose entire body was emitting a freezing mist.
"Another thing is that in this sort of environment, the Winter Monkey is stronger. He has an A grade ice affinity. The ice element in this place strengthens him."
"Every single one of his attacks would carry more power than normal."
Lucien paused, then he narrowed his eyes after perceiving a change in the sky.
"There’s a reason why Elder Mulon said that three Greater Demons and over forty Archfiends died before they were able to subdue it."
Simon hummed softly, then he shifted his gaze to the Winter Monkey and First Blade.
His eyes flickered with a surprised light after seeing what happened next.
The ice monkey sculptures stretched out their hands to the mirrors they stepped out from, then chains made out of ice shot out of the mirrors.
The ice monkeys grabbed the chains and over a dozen ice monkeys were holding ice chains.
"What an ingenious monkey." Simon muttered underneath his breath.
Meanwhile, First Blade was beginning to feel a threat to his life.
"Hehehehe. Let’s see how you deal with this you old fool." The Winter Monkey scoffed.
First Blade’s eyes blazed with fury, but the Winter Monkey did not give him an opportunity to attack.
With a thought, the ice monkey sculptures all sent their ice chains at First Blade.
Dozens of ice chains flew at First Blade like serpents that wanted to take a bite out of him.
"Don’t think this is enough to defeat me!"
Boom!
Flames exploded around First Blade, and the four swords in his hands suddenly left his hands and flew behind him.
A sword technique erupted.
"Scorching Crimson Wheel!"
The flames on the four swords grew larger, then they formed a massive rotating wheel behind him.
It spun.
Its speed became faster and faster with every passing second.
The first set of ice chains got close to him, and the flaming sword wheel moved.
BOOOOM!!!
Both techniques collided.
Ice collided with fire.
Fire collided with ice.
The sound of the flaming swords and the ice chains clashing shook the air.
Remnant shockwaves, flaming sword cuts, and shattered ice debris fell on the ground.
Water vapor exploded everywhere, and it started raining.
The battlefield vanished beneath a thick fog, and Simon and Lucien had to use their unique ocular abilities to see what was going on.
They both saw how the Winter Monkey was using the ice sculptures to attack First Blade and how First Blade was using his sword technique to block and destroy the ice chains.
Both demons were consuming a lot of demonic energy, but First Blade was at the losing end because of his environment, his injuries, and because he had not landed a single hit on the Winter Monkey.
Using the fire element in this frozen land was not an easy thing for him to do.
He knew that the environment was helping the Winter Monkey, he didn’t just expect it to be this much.
He wanted to end the battle as quickly as possible, but the Winter Monkey was a cunning beast.
Whenever he tried to close the distance between them, the Winter Monkey would use his ice sculptures to stop him.
Despite shattering and melting so many chains, they never stopped coming.
It looked like he was in a stalemate, but First Blade knew that he would run out of energy before the Winter Monkey.
"Enough!"
He roared, then the flaming sword wheel stopped moving.
The four swords flew into First Blade’s four hands and he swung all four blades.
Four massive flaming sword arcs flew toward the ice monkey sculptures.
They melted and shattered the ice chains in their path.
Some of the ice monkeys dodged the attacks, but some could not.
Those that dodged the sword arcs were suddenly split in two.
First Blade’s figure appeared in front of the surviving ice monkeys.
It looked like he had made clones, but that was false.
These were just afterimages.
The afterimages dissipated, then all the ice monkeys fell into two pieces and melted.
First Blade stood with his four swords in his hands, but he was breathing roughly.
Cough
He coughed out a mouthful of blood a few seconds later.
’My internal injuries have worsened.’
He wiped the blood on his lips, then he looked down.
’Where is that damned monkey?’
Just as he had this thought, his instincts screamed at him.
He quickly swung his silver sword.
CLANG!!!
An ice blade collided against his sword, and he was forced to take a step back.
The Winter Monkey appeared from behind him, but there was a change in his ice armor.
His arms transformed, and an enormous curved ice blade extended from his forearm.
The Winter Monkey’s pale blue eyes gleamed with an excited light.
"How do you want to die?"
A vein popped in First Blade’s head, then he gripped his sword tighter.
The Winter Monkey suddenly vanished, and he swung his bladed arms at the old demon.
Clang!
Clang!
Clang!
Clang!
Curved blade of ice clashed against straight blades of flames.
Shockwaves exploded, and the two Greater Demons moved across the sky like they owned it.
Simon and Lucien watched the battle with solemn expressions, and Simon suddenly sighed.
"That foolish monkey. He had the advantage before. Now, he has ruined it."
"Hmm?" Lucien looked at Simon with a baffled expression.
What was he talking about?
The Winter Monkey was not losing, so why did he say such a thing?
However, Lucien’s expression suddenly changed when he saw the Winter Monkey plummet into the frozen sea like a falling star.
BANG!
