Chapter 139: 12.5 One doesn’t go without the other

A-Xuan was in the kitchen with the previously injured users, helping them cook. No one dared to speak, and they would often peek at him.

A few minutes before they were done cooking, the rest came back and A-Xuan went to the living room. He asked Maddox worriedly:

"Are you okay?"

Maddox felt his heart soften, and he smiled as he answered:

"I’m okay."

A-Xuan looked around and could see that only one of them was hurt.

A-Xuan sat at the edge of the sofa, where they had put him and healed him. Everyone was looking at him stunned. He healed six of them before without stopping, but he still had energy left.

Before healing them, he used a tonne of it to stop the zombies. Is his energy never-ending? When he finished the man sat up and thanked him.

A-Xuan smiled at him.

"It’s nothing."

"No, it’s not. You already healed six users before and saved us with your ice ability."

A-Xuan said:

"Anyone would do the same if they could. We all need and help each other, no one can do everything on their own."

Everyone nodded in agreement. Even if this is the truth, ability users think that they’re above everyone, but seeing how insignificant their ability is compared to A-Xuan, humbled them.

He could feel it, and he was glad that they swallowed a dose of reality. They all sat around the table eating, and one of the users asked A-Xuan what they all wanted to do.

"A-Xuan, how did you bring us to the entry of the store?" 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Everyone looked at A-Xuan expectantly.

"I have three abilities. Ice, air, and healing."

Everyone gaped at him. When A-Xuan saw Emerys angry look, he laughed and asked:

"What’s wrong?"

Emerys asked, annoyed:

"Why didn’t you say so earlier?"

"They only came yesterday, because I have three of them, they took longer to awaken."

Emerys didn’t say anything and looked down. He looked up when A-Xuan asked:

"Do you think that if I had the power to help people before, I wouldn’t?"

Emerys could see that he was offended that he thought that. He doesn’t, he just can’t understand why he didn’t say it before they left or at least told him.

"I don’t."

A-Xuan looked at him to see if he was telling the truth and went back to eating. He could see that Luna wanted to ask something, but didn’t dare.

He smiled at her reassuringly, and she finally got the courage to ask:

"What can your air ability do besides what you did at the store? I never met someone with one."

"It can be used as a shield if I’m attacked."

She opened her eyes wide and asked:

"Really?"

A-Xuan laughed.

"Really. You’re so cute."

Luna smiled and looked down with a slight blush, A-Xuan laughed.

She reminds him of Leia so much that he already likes her. He definitely won’t let anything happen to her. Emerys narrowed his eyes at A-Xuan.

A-Xuan looked at Khal and asked:

"Naethan seemed to think that you had a problem with my rearrangement of the medical department. Is that true?"

Khal looked at him and immediately shook his head, denying:

"No, I was just wondering why he wasn’t in charge anymore. That’s it, you’re in charge, you can do what you want."

A-Xuan said as a matter of fact.

"He’s not in charge anymore because he’s incompetent."

Everyone was surprised to hear that.

It’s well known that he’s Naethan’s lapdog, they couldn’t understand it. He treats him like crap, and he’s condescending, but every time A-Xuan would see him he would smile like a fool.

Knowing what they were thinking, A-Xuan said:

"I finally saw the light."

The way he spoke, everyone could tell that he was done with Naethan and Maddox was beyond happy. A-Xuan smiled looking at him and he smiled back.

When they were done eating thanks to a water ability user, A-Xuan went to take a shower. After putting on a pair of pajamas, he went downstairs.

They were 5 rooms and A-Xuan already said he would sleep in the living room. If any zombies try to get in the house CF will alert him, no offense, but he trusts himself more.

When he entered the living room, everyone was sitting and talking. He sat next to Emerys and looked at Khal. From the moment they left the mall, he could see that he was going through an emotional crisis.

He’s also scared he’ll kill him because A-Xuan hasn’t been shy with his hints. He knows that A-Xuan knows.

Khal looked at him, then he looked down. A-Xuan said:

"Just because users help mundanes they shouldn’t act as though they owe them, they help too in their way. One doesn’t go without the other. Don’t you think they also wish they could be users too, so they can help their family or other mundanes? But that’s the difference between them and certain users, they want to help to make a difference. While users only help, so they can be worshiped and feel like they’re better than everybody else."

Khal swallowed with difficulty. He knows that A-Xuan is aware of his plan, but that’s the least of his worries right now. Khal knows that he’s become proud since he’s become a user, but for once, he was needed.

People believed in him to help the base and defend it, it was new to him. He grew up in a rich family, his parents told him that he didn’t have to do anything and that he would live well his whole life.

It’s like they all thought he wasn’t good enough to accomplish anything, but now people do. Now everyone thinks that he’s good enough to go on scavenging missions and protect the base.

He became drunk on that feeling, and he started to think that he should be above because he is more needed than mundanes. But when he saw A-Xuan and the depth of his power, he knew that he was a joke.

Not only is he powerful, but he also helps just to help not to feel needed or above anyone else. He’s been feeling guilty ever since, and he can barely face him.

Khal tried to have him killed, just because he thought he was above him when he isn’t. I’m not above anyone.

Everyone could feel this weird tension and followed A-Xuan’s sight. It’s not a secret that Khal thinks he’s above anyone, so they could put 2 and 2 together.

Emerys frowned looking at him, he was about to say something when A-Xuan put a hand on his, he looked at him surprised.

A-Xuan was still looking at Khal.

"I’m saying that because I know you’re better than that and I understand how you feel. You’re still young, but if you don’t change your ways now you never will. I believe in you, or wouldn’t have said anything."

A-Xuan knows that deep down Khal’s not a bad person, or he would’ve had him killed a long time ago. He looked at his history and knows where his insecurity comes from.

He’s just a kid who wants people to believe in him. He believes in people changing because it happened before, and he will. But if he doesn’t change his ways, then he’ll end him, he doesn’t kill for sport.

Except for zombies, of course. Khal looked at him, feeling emotional, no one’s ever believed in him. Even his parent didn’t. He let all that power get to his head, but he’s done with his old ways.

He always wished people would believe in him, and now that he found someone who does, he won’t disappoint that person. He’ll show A-Xuan that he wasn’t wrong to put his faith in him. He nodded and smiled back when A-Xuan did.

Everyone looked at A-Xuan as if he was a god. They all tried to talk to Khal, but they’d never seen the slightest bit of emotion from him, but it only took A-Xuan a few sentences to see a change in him.

Maddox looked at A-Xuan’s hand on top of Emerys’ feeling bitter. Since it was already late, everyone left for their rooms.

When A-Xuan woke up, he felt someone embracing him. He found a more comfortable position in his arms and stayed like that, his eyes closed for a while.

When he felt that the person was about to leave, he opened his eyes. a-Xuan met beautiful fiery eyes and his heart softened, he loves his eyes so much.

Emerys didn’t move either, he just looked at him, he didn’t seem embarrassed to have crawled into his bed. Still, he had this apprehension, so he felt relief when he didn’t see anger in A-Xuan’s eyes.

He can’t explain what led him downstairs, but he just needed to see him. When he entered the living room, he saw that he was asleep and first sat watching him. But then he fell asleep and unconsciously pulled him in his arms.
