Chapter 138: Behind the Anonymous Letter

{Third Person}

Human Clan.

Several days later, a sealed letter from the Werewolf Kingdom arrived at the Caldwell estate and was delivered directly into Anthony Caldwell’s hands.

The moment he recognized the royal seal pressed into the wax, his expression subtly changed.

Without opening it immediately, Anthony carried the letter straight to his private study. Only after shutting the door behind him did he finally break the seal and unfold the contents.

The more he read, the more serious his expression became.

By the time he reached the end of the letter, his brows had already drawn tightly together.

At that exact moment, the study door opened softly, and Matilda entered carrying a tray of tea.

The moment she noticed her husband’s troubled expression, concern immediately crossed her face.

"What happened?" she asked while setting the tray down carefully.

Anthony did not answer right away. Instead, he silently handed her the letter, which she accepted with confusion and began reading.

Almost instantly, her eyes widened. "He wants the anonymous letter?" she asked in disbelief.

Anthony leaned back into his chair with a heavy sigh. "Yes."

Matilda lowered the letter slowly, her face becoming increasingly unsettled. "Why would the Alpha Prince suddenly ask for it again after all this time?"

Anthony remained quiet for a moment before replying, "I have a feeling that he is investigating something."

The atmosphere inside the study immediately became tense.

Matilda sat down slowly opposite him while still clutching the letter tightly in her hands. "Do you think he has started suspecting Amara?" she asked carefully.

Anthony’s expression darkened slightly. "I don’t know," he admitted honestly.

And that uncertainty troubled him deeply because if Alexander had truly begun reopening the issue surrounding the political marriage, then things could quickly spiral into something dangerous.

Especially if the Alpha Prince eventually uncovered the truth behind Amara’s identity.

Matilda looked genuinely worried now. "Where is the anonymous letter currently?"

"It was stored in Parliament archives after the investigation back then," Anthony explained. "I will retrieve it during the next assembly gathering."

Matilda fell silent after hearing that. Then softly, she asked, "What if this matter becomes bigger than before?"

Anthony released another slow breath before answering, "As long as Amara says nothing herself, the Alpha Prince will not discover the full truth."

Though he sounded confident outwardly, there was still hidden tension beneath his words.

Truthfully, even Anthony himself no longer felt completely certain anymore.

Silence gradually settled between husband and wife afterwards.

Neither of them noticed the faint figure standing quietly beyond the slightly opened study door.

Lila. She had heard every single word, and slowly, satisfaction began spreading through her chest.

’So, the anonymous letter I sent in the past had not been meaningless after all.’

The Alpha Prince was investigating again

And if suspicion had truly started growing inside the Werewolf palace, then perhaps Amara’s peaceful life there would not last much longer.

Werewolf Clan.

Two weeks before the birthday banquet, the shawls Amara commissioned from the artisans finally arrived at the residence.

Even though her body still felt weaker than usual these days and the cold lingered stubbornly beneath her skin, she was well enough to walk around on her own again.

That afternoon, Mrs. Woods personally helped arrange the finished shawls neatly across the long table in the living room before calling for Amara.

The moment Amara entered, her eyes immediately brightened.

For a few seconds, she simply stood there quietly, taking everything in. The artisans had truly done well.

All five shawls looked exquisite.

The dark fabrics carried a quiet elegance that suited Alexander perfectly, while the silver embroidery woven carefully along the edges gave them a noble appearance without looking overly extravagant.

Each design captured exactly what she envisioned: simple, refined, and dignified.

Amara stepped closer and lightly touched one of the shawls with her fingers. A faint smile appeared on her face.

"They turned out beautifully," she murmured softly.

Mrs. Woods smiled warmly beside her. "The artisans praised your designs repeatedly, My Lady. They said they rarely receive such detailed instructions."

Amara laughed quietly at that.

Truthfully, she had spent days carefully adjusting the patterns, colours, and materials before approving the final work.

She wanted the shawls to suit Alexander properly, not merely look expensive.

As she continued looking through them, her smile gradually softened. Then naturally, her thoughts drifted toward him. And almost instantly, the warmth in her expression faded slightly.

Because lately, Alexander had remained distant from her... painfully distant.

For weeks now, his attitude had become colder again in ways she could no longer ignore.

He didn’t linger around her, and there was barely any opportunity for them to have even the briefest of conversations.

Sometimes, it even felt as though he was intentionally avoiding her.

The realization quietly dampened the happiness she initially felt while looking at the shawls.

Mrs. Woods noticed immediately.

After paying the artisans and seeing them out personally, she returned to find Amara still standing near the table, though her expression had grown quieter.

"My Lady?" she called gently.

Amara looked up.

Mrs. Woods studied her carefully before asking, "Are you dissatisfied with the shawls?"

Amara quickly shook her head. "No," she replied softly before forcing a small smile onto her face. "I was just thinking... I hope His Highness will like them."

Mrs. Woods’s expression softened instantly. "He will," she assured her warmly. "Especially since you prepared them with so much sincerity."

Amara smiled faintly again, though the worry inside her heart did not completely disappear because, truthfully, she no longer understood Alexander’s feelings toward her at all.

---

Later that night, after dinner, Mrs. Woods prepared another hot bath for Amara.

Steam filled the bathroom heavily while Amara slowly removed her night robe in exhaustion. And once again, Mrs. Woods saw them.

Those faint bluish and reddish veins beneath her skin.

This time, they stretched lightly across Amara’s arms, collarbone, and parts of her legs, though not aggressively, just faint enough to appear unnatural beneath her pale skin.

Mrs. Woods stared silently for several moments. Truthfully, she still found it shocking every single time, especially because Amara herself never seemed to notice.
