Chapter 194: He truly was...
To me, it’s been almost ten months since I transmigrated in this world, but according to what I heard quite recently, I’ve been dead for an entire month, so add that to the ten months I knew of, that makes it eleven months.
Almost a year since all this... madness began.
"April 14th huh?" I muttered with a look of nostalgia. This day held a special place in my heart, after all, it was the day I was born. Yup, today was my nineteenth birthday, and coincidentally, it was both the birthday of Evan Dexter and Damon Darkfell.
As if that wasn’t weird enough, it happened to be the day I was brought back to life. Fate really does love to you with one sometimes. Isn’t it ironic? I have to change the fate of this world, but I am just a plaything in fate’s endless weaves.
Even though today was my birthday, it only brought back bad memories. As Evan Dexter, I had never really celebrated my birthday ever since I came to think for myself, and as Damon Darkfell, on my birthday, the day I turned sixteen, was the turning point of my life.
So if anything, today just served to me as a form of nostalgia, nothing else.
Huh! Anyway, asking around, I came to know that the third prince of the Darkfell empire had apparently been pronounced dead a month ago and my funeral was had two days after the day of the event which had now been titled; The tragedy of Offshore city.
I also heard that Damon Darkfell was being proclaimed as a hero who sacrificed himself to help his fellow students escape. The most funny thing about this whole thing was that I didn’t see myself doing that, not for Dion, not for Aric, not for Anastasia, and not even for Rose if it really came to me or her, talk less of some foolish people whose face I could barely remember. I simply valued my life that much.
It didn’t matter much anymore now that I was pronounced dead anyway. According to the timeline, the main casts should just be a week or less away from the first year final exams, and I had absolutely no intentions of revealing the fact that I was alive.
Make no mistake, it’s not that I want to disappear, it’s just that I was tired for the time being, tired of everything, so I need some time away from all these madness. That’s why it’s important for Damon Darkfell to remain dead. Since everyone already thinks I’m dead, it’s best they should keep thinking that way.
I took a deep breath, pursing my lips at the same time. Nobody must know that I’m still alive. Another reason why I didn’t want to reveal myself was that everyone else could believe I had survived by some miracle but not my family.
I had a hundred percent certainty that my life lantern had gone off. Before, I could always feel connected to it, but now that I came back to life, that connection was no more. So there was no convincing them that I didn’t miraculously come back from the dead.
So I must remain dead for now, until I figure out a way to convince them. There was no other way around it. I couldn’t take a chance.
Slap! I slapped both sides of my cheeks and stood up from the pavement I was sitting on.
"Let’s not waste any more time." I muttered.
For now, I was planning to go back to Vorde, Silver city specifically. Even before my death, It kind of felt like I’d been ignoring my minions a little too much, so maybe it was time to go meet them, do a few things together, strengthen relationships, and maybe go on a mission together.
Yep, that’s what I’ll do, On to the Vorde continent. ’I wonder how Rose is spending this day though.’ A thought I’d rather not think of came to me.

Two days later.
It took me two whole days to reach Silver City due to the cruising speed of commercial airships.
"It’s been a while." I muttered, staring at the window of the carriage as I stared at the familiar outer scenery.
Although I said that, it wasn’t actually a long time since I had last been in Silver City. In fact, it had only been a month, the month I’d been dead. But it just felt like it had been forever.
"We’re here." As I was lost in thoughts, I didn’t even realize we’d reach my destination. The carriage came to a gentle stop, and the door creaked open. I nodded in silence to the coachman, and stepped out, allowing the glow of the morning sun to fully bathe me.
Turning my head to the side, I saw the all too familiar inconspicuous door nestled in the alley. After the carriage left, I started to walk towards the alley, but I felt my heart tighten as a group suddenly went into the alley before me.
The moment they appeared, it was as if the air had been sucked from my lungs, leaving me utterly breathless. A figure among the group, especially took my breath away, with her soft scarlet hair dancing in the wind and her back facing me. As if sensing my gaze, she turned to look at me for a fleeting second before tearing her gaze away.
My mind blanked at the sight of her. Even with the black veil she was wearing, there was no hiding her crimson eyes or her stunning appearance.
The group was none other than my sister, some of my friends, and my classmates.
"....is right, this place does look very shady." I heard Delilah mutter as I came to stand behind them.
"Believe me, it’s not as shady as it looks.it’s much better on the inside, and it’s just a black market." Alistair who seemed to be the one who brought them here explained.
In hindsight, I should have recalled that Alistair the main casts here some time before the first year final exams, but I was occupied being dead for a month so it slipped my mind.
"We’ll see about that." Delilah shot back. At this point, the rest seemed to notice me, or rather, acknowledged my presence.
"Oh, sorry, didn’t notice you there." Alistair turned with an embarrassed smile. "Are you also here for the..." he left the rest unsaid.
I nodded silently.
"Ah, then we’ll be proceeding." Alistair offered a polite smile and walked towards the door.
Rose barely glanced in my direction. Her eyes met mine for the briefest moment before moving away. ’So she didn’t see through the disguise this time.’ I thought.
A part of me was happy with the development, but at the same time, I felt lost. I looked at her, taking in that familiar cold expression of hers, a thought crept into my mind. ’Why does she still look the same?’ Rose looked no different than before.
It was almost as though my ’death’ had not affected her at all. I obviously knew that that was probably not the case, but what if? What if she truly did not care?
Not only her, the rest; Sia and Dion also looked... like they always did. Even though it was much of a stretch, and they could exactly mope for an entire month, something insidious was whispering in my mind.
Thinking back on the way Sia had also looked at me before, my lips quivered faintly.
’...That might truly be the case.’
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. By this time, Alistair had already finished saying the password, so the door got unlocked.
Without wasting time, I went ahead of them and walked down the stairs. I was afraid if I stayed any longer, I wouldn’t be able to hold back my emotions, and the cracks in my expressionless visage.

***Anastasia’s Pov***
Seeing the guy who had been standing behind them suddenly rush ahead of them, something felt weirdly familiar about it. Anastasia couldn’t put a finger on it, but that person felt very familiar, almost like....
However, she quickly shook her head. It must be just my thinking. ’His’ death had affected them all, especially Rose, Dion, and herself.
When they returned to the institute after ’His’ funeral, Dion didn’t even leave his room for for the first week. And even though Rose looked normal at a glance, the faint dark circles under her eyes were hard to miss.
And then there was her. Sia couldn’t even bring herself to attend his funeral.
Even though they started off on a bad note, Sia had come to like his company, especially that annoying habit of his to show off his intelligence. And if she could describe the way he looked when he got upset or when he thought someone was telling him what to do, it would be... cute.
At first none of them had believed the fact that he had died. He was a cockroach, most, including herself believed he had gotten away at the last second using that broken ability of his.
It was only after confirmation form the Darkfell Empire that he was truly dead, did they actually believe it.
He truly was... gone.
