The Enhanced Doctor
Chapter 1061: A Distinctive Opening Remarks
You can’t get fat in one bite; experience needs to be accumulated gradually.
The case of the Nutcracker syndrome patient also provided Liu Banxia with a vivid lesson. Her surgery was very successful, and with Wu Wenlin involved, it was a sure thing.
Today is the day to promote first aid knowledge at schools, and after lunch, Liu Banxia led the team to various universities.
He was accompanied by Liu Yiqing and Su Wenhao, targeting the University of Science and Technology. Xu Yino, Cui Jia, Chen Dongmei, and the internal medicine intern Xu Ziqi went to another four universities.
Each team must have a female doctor as well, to teach the female students.
"How did the test results of that fortune-teller patient turn out today?" Liu Banxia asked.
"Very good, so far no complications or after-effects," Liu Yiqing replied.
"I also observed that there seems to be no change in his expression. I don’t know what the impact will be from not seeing his girlfriend anymore."
"Now I’m a bit confused. Was performing this surgery on him right or wrong? In my heart, I feel it was right because it prolongs life. But seeing him now, I feel a bit sorry."
"Zhang Libo, share your thoughts with us," Liu Banxia asked the internal medicine resident doctor Zhang Libo who came along.
"Teacher Liu, I can’t say for sure," Zhang Libo said.
"Although I haven’t interacted with this patient, there has been quite a bit of discussion about him these past few days. Matters involving emotions aren’t so easily explained."
"It’s hard for a fair judge to manage family matters, and his situation is so unique. As outsiders, we can only try to speculate on his feelings, but we’ll never truly know."
"Yes, no one can truly feel another’s emotions," Liu Banxia echoed.
"Before the surgery, I didn’t discuss this issue with you in detail, afraid that my views and thoughts might mislead you."
"For this patient, the hardest part is that he can no longer see his girlfriend. In a more extreme sense, we’re all murderers, even if we’re saving his life."
"Now that he has accepted the surgery, he’ll surely go through a period of grief. If he can move on peacefully, all will be well. If not, he might suffer serious psychological issues later."
"But as doctors, our primary responsibility is to ensure the patient’s life, and then consider possible complications and after-effects."
"It’s similar to the patient with lithium overdose that Li Hao treated. Didn’t he come back for dialysis treatment yesterday? His final decision is to continue the medication, whenever death comes, it comes."
"We’ve truly run out of options for him because he’s tried both methods, so he made the most acceptable decision. He’d rather die with dignity than live crazily."
"Even if you ask Li Hao now, he would fully support the patient’s decision. Unlike at the start, when he was very eager for the patient to stop medication."
"Although these two cases have opposite outcomes, the processes are quite similar. In dealing with such cases, everyone will have their own thoughts."
"In the end, no one can say for certain what’s the right choice. Or what’s best for the patient. Remember our duty, respect the patient’s choice, that’s enough."
The three people in the car remained silent, reflecting on Liu Banxia’s words, feeling touched. These two patients were especially familiar to them.
The rest is for them to slowly digest; Liu Banxia wouldn’t offer any guidance. As he said, there’s no right answer, only what’s suitable at the time.
As they arrived at the entrance of the University of Science and Technology, they saw Qiu Mingyuan waiting there.
"What a thoughtful job, even coming out to welcome us," Liu Banxia joked.
"With such an important leader visiting our school to guide our work, we must arrange everything perfectly. So, are you going home for dinner or trying out our school cafeteria?" Qiu Mingyuan asked.
"If I don’t go home and roam around outside, do you think Qiaoqiao and Tang Dou will gang up on me when I get back? Let’s get in the car. Do we need to register?" Liu Banxia asked.
"No need, it’s all been registered for you," said Qiu Mingyuan as he got into the car.
"I must say, such thoughtful service. What’s your plan? Are you coming home with me?" Liu Banxia asked.
"Not today, I have plans with Yueyue to watch a movie. It’s not easy to get a day like this, I have to cherish it," Qiu Mingyuan said.
"But what time are you checking out the house tomorrow? My second period is gym class, I can get an excuse. I can join you for a look around then."
"That sounds great, a happy decision," replied Liu Banxia offhandedly.
Qiu Mingyuan is practically a walking discount coupon, probably more effective than Old Qiu making phone calls. No wonder people say he knows how to handle things—he even makes playing around look productive.
"Oh my gosh, what are you all so excited about? Why is everyone here?" Liu Banxia exclaimed as he entered the auditorium, shocked by the crowd sitting below.
"Brother Liu, this isn’t my doing. Lots of us from our school got into this place, way more than the medical school folks," Qiu Mingyuan remarked.
"Director Liu, did you arrive just on time?" Qu Feng approached, joining the conversation.
"Saying I was stuck in traffic wouldn’t convince you, but honestly it’s not my fault. It’s because of Liu Yiqing; along with our director, she was tied up in surgery and came out a bit late," Liu Banxia replied.
"Reporter Qu, did you manage to get your interview with Teacher Liu?" Liu Yiqing asked nervously.
"Do you think he’d give me a chance to interview him? We’re just recording casually on the side. With this setup and the arrangement on stage, we can make a news report," Qu Feng said with a smile.
"Why not interview Qiu Mingyuan? This guy also put quite a bit of effort into it," Liu Banxia suggested with a laugh.
"Sister Qu, don’t worry. I even know which of Brother Liu’s dogs snore when they sleep. No details spared," Qiu Mingyuan said assuredly.
"Alright, for inquiries about Director Liu, come to you. Those must be the school leaders arriving; you all should go greet them," Qu Feng said with a grin.
Qiu Mingyuan hurriedly led Liu Banxia over to make introductions.
This event was given significant importance, evidenced by the presence of a deputy principal onsite, which was a big deal.
After a few pleasantries, it was about time, and Liu Banxia directly took the microphone and stepped into the host’s position.
"Hello everyone, welcome to the event. I’ll do my utmost to make sure it’s not too boring," Liu Banxia began.
The distinctive opening line sparked some interest among the students "forced" to attend.
It was unavoidable; even Liu Banxia thought he didn’t have that kind of pull. This was probably akin to events where attendees get eggs for buying tickets — political duty for some students.
After all, he’d been to school, so he understood the routine.
"Honestly, I love coming to college and high school campuses because there’s vitality here, and you can smell the scent of youth," Liu Banxia continued.
"This little educational activity is meant to safeguard the continuity of our youth, much like Little Li Flying Dagger — if you don’t act, you’ll save a life when you do."
"Oh? Forgot my introduction! Let me add it in. My name is Liu Banxia, and I’m a doctor at the emergency center of the Second Hospital. To my right is Liu Yiqing, a female doctor, and two male doctors, Su Wenhao and Zhang Libo, all experienced in emergency operations."
"Everyone can rest assured; everything we’re offering today is genuine and can be traced back in quality."
"Liu Yiqing, tell us — how many successful CPRs have you performed during your medical career? The ones you conducted personally, excluding those only involved in."
"Around four to five times; some I can’t quite recall," Liu Yiqing responded.
Liu Banxia nodded, "Let’s say four times. These four successful rescues at least provided patients a chance to be saved."
"Emergency knowledge should be a necessary skill for us to master because in our daily lives, we might encounter situations where someone nearby or close by temporarily stops their heartbeat."
"A large portion of people, after our rescue, will have a very good prognosis. And some, due to no one around knowing emergency knowledge, regretfully passed."
"Emergency knowledge doesn’t cost to learn, nor will it deceive you. At crucial moments, there might be unexpected gains. Suppose a passerby has a heart attack, and people around are at a loss — you shout, ’Let me!’"
"Imagine executing a successful rescue — you’d be undoubtedly the most dazzling person on site, no contest. The halo of saving a life would fixate on you."
"I might sound a bit profit-oriented, but as long as someone is saved, a little greed doesn’t hurt, does it? Sudden death leaves limited time for the patient, which is why the concept of the golden four minutes exists."
"We’re running short on time, so let’s return to the topic — discussing emergency knowledge. This is crucial — not tested in exams, but you must remember it."
Students below chuckled aloud; it seemed the teaching process differed from what they imagined. At least the opening was quite interesting.
Qiu Mingyuan and Liu Yiqing, familiar with Liu Banxia, had grown accustomed to his unpredictable style.
Liu Yiqing knew even more that this unique opening was all Liu Banxia’s spontaneous creation.
No preparation at the hospital, and at home? No time for that, as he had to accompany his teacher’s wife.
