The Enhanced Doctor
Chapter 986: Never Underestimate a Fart
(Thanks to the village protector monthly ticket for encouragement)
Today’s little event was quite successful for Liu Banxia.
After all, he can’t just focus solely on the emergency center nowadays; sometimes he needs to step out, get some fresh air, and expand his influence.
As for today’s speech venue, it was decent. But compared to when he spoke at the experimental high school and to the medical school students in their final year of internship, it wasn’t quite as good.
That’s because the freshmen now come from all over the country, and it’s not like everyone knows him just because he has gained some fame. Being able to stir up emotions in the second half is already a pretty good result.
We’ll leave Shi Lei here first; it’ll be good for him to visit his office early and meet other colleagues. With Zhou Zhiyong, the vice-principal, personally leading him, people should know what’s going on.
Cliquing is undesirable, but often, if you don’t have a small group, you’re like a rootless duckweed, which makes it hard to blend in.
Back home, Tang Dou came running out with her four pups. Even though Beifeng rolled halfway down the stairs, he steadfastly completed his task of welcoming Liu Banxia.
"Not bad, speaking in front pretending to know it all." Qiaoqiao teased when he walked into the house.
"Hahaha, did Yueyue send you the photos?" Liu Banxia asked cheerfully.
Qiaoqiao nodded, "How was dining with Principal Zhou?"
"It went well, we exchanged some insights on educational training work. What did you two have for dinner?" Liu Banxia asked.
Yanzi, eating fruit, glanced at him without speaking while Qiaoqiao hesitated slightly.
"Looks like seafood was served." Liu Banxia said.
"We had spicy crab and spicy shrimp, haven’t had a proper meal in ages, was craving it." Qiaoqiao said.
"It’s okay, eating it occasionally is fine. Just don’t eat it too often, seafood tends to be more cooling." Liu Banxia said.
"You have no idea, she kept grumbling while eating, yet the more she complained, the more she enjoyed it." Yanzi started to gripe.
"Hehehe, at least I didn’t eat crawfish, truth is I quite like crawfish too." Qiaoqiao said with a grin.
"Yanzi has been working hard lately, how should we reward her? Even the best of friends can’t just constantly take care of me."
"Ah... Someone still has some conscience." Yanzi sighed, pretending.
"How about trying to find Yanzi a boyfriend? Shi Lei and Su Ying seem to have already formally met the parents, haven’t they?" Liu Banxia asked.
Qiaoqiao rolled her eyes, "Your news is really outdated, they’ve not only met the parents, they’re already living together. The wedding is set for May 1st next year, we can attend then too."
Liu Banxia felt quite sentimental at this. Indeed, his beloved leader was a person of character.
"By the way, the crabs now are quite fatty, I’ve saved two for you, why don’t you steam them?" Qiaoqiao said.
"Okay, I’ll go steam them now. Then, I’ll try my best to find a suitable match for Yanzi." Liu Banxia said.
"Please spare me, seeing Qiaoqiao’s tough days, I’m determined not to find a doctor." Yanzi shook her head vehemently.
"Hehe, actually doctors are okay." Qiaoqiao said with a smile.
Yanzi ignored her.
If we’re talking about reputation in the martial world, Liu Banxia is indeed a good husband choice. But from the perspective of household care, he definitely gets a negative review.
While others merely work late, he frequently returns to the hospital to work late at night. It’s not just once or twice; the workload is truly overwhelming.
"But Yanzi, you really need to be serious. What kind do you want to find?" Qiaoqiao asked, snuggling closer to Yanzi.
"I don’t know either, I used to think I should find someone handsome, someone I could show off." Yanzi said with a bitter smile.
"But now, I think it’s just so-so. Being handsome is nice, but they’re easily tempted. Even if he doesn’t fancy others, others might fancy him. What if he can’t resist temptation?"
"I’ll just go along with whatever comes, I don’t even know what type to look for. Anyway, I’ve made up my mind that he has to be good to me. Otherwise, I’d rather be on my own; no worries about food or drinks, it’s quite nice too."
"If you choose wrong, suffering lasts a lifetime. Unlike you, with such good fortune, even though your husband is busy, he holds you in his heart. Your mother-in-law treats you so well, should you invite your mother-in-law over so I can rest for a few days?"
"Hehe, my mother-in-law has said it several times, but I haven’t let her come." Qiaoqiao said with a smile.
"I always feel it’s wrong to bother too many people looking after me. But you’re different, as you’re my best friend. We could stroll someday, maybe get you a new bag."
"Please, I’m just barely getting by, what’s the point of carrying such a fancy bag? Anyway, you cover my meals and accommodation, and I can save some pocket money," Wang Xiaoyan said.
"Still, you need to settle down. Things really change once you’re expecting. Right now, all I can think about are the two babies in my belly," Qiaoqiao said.
Wang Xiaoyan gave her a helpless look; during their chats, Qiaoqiao never missed a chance to flaunt her pregnancy.
After some more chatting, Liu Banxia brought over the steamed crabs.
These crabs were really good; when he lifted the lid, the roe filled the shells.
Seeing him eat, the four winds - East, West, North, and South - started to crave. It’s like a conditioned reflex; whenever they see him eat, they get hungry no matter what he’s eating.
"Just watch, you guys can’t eat this," Liu Banxia said.
"Hey Qiaoqiao, how’s Qing Kewa’s work going after she went back? If it doesn’t work out, you all should try persuading her to come work with us," he added.
"It’s just wishful thinking; don’t be fooled by her complaints of having lots of free time, she’s actually enjoying it quite a bit," Qiaoqiao replied.
"By the way, can I consult you on something? My friend’s dad is feeling unwell and wants to get checked at your place. Is that possible?"
"Why not? Get me his ID and I’ll book an appointment in advance," Liu Banxia responded.
"Scheduling an immediate check-up is tricky, but pre-booking is no problem. Is there any symptom or specific discomfort that needs focus during the examination?"
"Well, her dad has been passing gas a lot lately. Initially she wasn’t too concerned, but it’s been going on for quite a while, and she thinks it might not be normal," Qiaoqiao explained.
Liu Banxia nodded, "That’s hard to say. Excessive flatulence can have many causes; some are benign. But among these benign causes, there can be underlying issues."
"For instance, indigestion, poor gastro-intestinal function, or consuming soy-based foods can lead to increased flatulence."
"Sometimes it could be due to an imbalance of intestinal bacteria or bacterial infection. Another possibility is local gastrointestinal lesions."
"For example, if there’s an ulcer or bleeding in the intestines, decomposed and fermented by bacteria, the gas released often has a strong and foul smell."
"Some people might have hormonal imbalance affecting digestion, causing similar symptoms. Passing ten or so times a day is normal, but if it’s over twenty times, daily, and smells bad, it deserves attention."
"We’ll have a thorough check-up at the hospital; I’ll inform the health check center to carefully examine him," Liu Banxia reassured.
"You’re talking about farts while eating crabs; can you really keep eating?" Wang Xiaoyan asked curiously.
"What’s the big deal? It’s totally normal," Liu Banxia replied indifferently.
"While debriding, we might encounter all sorts of wounds. After work, when it’s mealtime, we have to eat. And for patients with bowel or gastric perforation, bowel content or gastric content isn’t that appealing either."
"Hey, let’s drop this topic. If the farts are foul and frequent, is it dangerous?" Qiaoqiao inquired.
"No need to be overly cautious; many factors contribute to this. It’s like diagnosing through the internet; various conditions could match, even cirrhosis patients can have increased flatulence," Liu Banxia said, smiling.
"So diagnosing requires a comprehensive approach; we need to look into your friend’s dad’s dietary habits, lifestyle, and bowel movements."
"Then combine this with his current physical state; corresponding tests can provide an accurate diagnosis. But, I mean if it turns out like the case I mentioned, extra vigilance is required."
"You mean in the case of frequent, foul-smelling farts?" Qiaoqiao asked.
Liu Banxia nodded, "In such cases, there generally are some issues, it’s just a matter of how serious they are. If it’s gastrointestinal changes, stool often provides clues."
"He’s already planned for a check-up, so let’s do it properly. Once the examination is done, everything will be clear. A colonoscopy, an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, will provide a clear view of the digestive tract."
"Okay, I’ll tell her. Anyway, she’s quite worried, it’s probably been going on for a long time," Qiaoqiao said.
Liu Banxia nodded and continued eating crabs, also making the four winds hungry.
Some things shouldn’t be made trivial, especially if it’s a health issue. Better safe than sorry.
Being afraid of dying isn’t shameful; even if people mock you now, it’s better than finding out about some illness in its late stages.
By then, you’ll be left slapping your thigh, but what’s the use? Even if you slap until bruised, what good would it do?
Take Qiaoqiao’s friend’s dad; no one can guarantee there’s no problem now, we have to wait for the check-up to really be at ease.
Don’t underestimate flatulence; often it’s a directional sign for gastro-intestinal function.
