Chapter 76: A Secret for Another Condition

The corpse certainly wouldn’t run away or hide by itself; its disappearance is naturally due to human factors. As for the secrets of the Rocana Roses, nobody here knows about them, and even if they did, without an account, just having a password is useless.

Li Yan immediately thought, there’s something fishy about this!

So as he was analyzing out loud, he simultaneously increased his speed to the maximum and left the vicinity of the funeral home.

"Retire?"

"Exactly! For people like us, retiring isn’t easy. But even if she didn’t die this time, getting shot by you must have severely injured her, basically pushing her to the brink of death. Perhaps that made her weary of the killing. She wouldn’t come after you again because bruised and battered, she would be even less of a match. And you’d likely publicize killing Rocana’s ’Rose,’ which would impact more than just her. We would probably have to adopt other aliases and start over." Sonia seriously explained.

Li Yan thought for a bit, as typically Yue Yao handled various tasks. The time Rocana Rose Eve hit Yue Yao, Li Yan was wholly focused on Yue Yao’s injuries. Yue Yao couldn’t move and didn’t disclose the event immediately. Later, they discovered someone from ’their’ organization disappeared. Post-injury, Yue Yao wanted to keep a low profile for a while. The massive gains from the operation in H City with the Si Country agents had restored King’s prominence, sparking jealousy. She didn’t want this scenario and probably didn’t publicize eliminating Rocana’s ’Rose.’

"Then why hasn’t she contacted you? Before attempting to kill me, she knew to notify you; now that she’s alive, why wouldn’t she tell you?" Li Yan glanced at her.

Sonia shook her head: "I don’t know. But since you could trace this place, and the manager you took me to showed no abnormal behavior, it means Eva’s people did enter this funeral home’s morgue. We just don’t know when she awoke or how she escaped. It’s likely very difficult, and the specific time can’t be determined. Shot by you, severely injured, all her belongings are gone. Reaching out to us is not an easy task."

She showed a worried look as she spoke.

If she’s indeed dead, then she’s dead. But if she might not be, of course, Sonia couldn’t just let it go.

Seeing Li Yan’s smile tinged with mockery, Sonia blushed slightly and awkwardly took out her phone, shrugging: "I was just kidding, you know."

"It’s not funny," Li Yan intentionally replied.

Sonia smiled, dropping the topic: "Alright! I feel like we’re about to part ways if I don’t show more sincerity."

"What sincerity do you have left to offer?"

Sonia dropped her smile and spoke seriously: "This is my second purpose for coming to Yun Country!"

"Also the more important one, right?" Li Yan teased, pretending her motive was for a partner’s remains; turns out profit comes first!

"Yes, it’s significant, and not just to you!"

"Oh? I’m interested to hear how it involves me," Li Yan said with a smile.

Sonia shook her head: "I can tell you, but there’s one condition: besides helping me find Eva, if she tries to kill you, you must spare her life!"

"Hmph!" Li Yan sneered at once: "You just claimed she wouldn’t act again, yet now you’re saying she’ll come to kill me. And you’re asking me to spare her life when she’s out to take mine? Isn’t that leaving my life at her mercy?"

Sonia gave a bitter smile: "I mean... just in case, it isn’t certain. In normal circumstances, Eva shouldn’t come after you. But as you said, she hurt your friend, a really important friend by the looks of it. She has no vendetta against you, yet now you’re the one with hatred. She must consider your revenge, and the best way to avoid it is to kill you when you think she’s dead."

"So, for me, it’s just an opportunity for revenge. If she’s dead or escaped with her life and stays hidden, I won’t pursue it. Coming after me is seeking death!" Li Yan stated coldly, refusing the condition outright and showing no interest in what she hadn’t revealed.

"She’s already severely injured. With your capability, capturing her should be easy; I just hope you catch her and call me to take her away..."

Realizing just proposing conditions couldn’t win his approval, Sonia knew she had to offer more. Such a difficult condition couldn’t be agreed upon lightly, even more so when he knew nothing of the exchange.

"To show sincerity, I can reveal my secret, my objective to you first!" Sonia considered and then resolutely said.

Li Yan, however, casually replied: "I’m not intrigued by your secret, or objective. After all, it’s someone else’s concern, what’s it to me? I’m past the age of rampant curiosity and won’t rope myself into something just for it!"

"Hear me out first and then decide..."

Sonia believed Li Yan would change his mind once she’d spoken, and she began slowly explaining. Sure enough, there was a distinct change in Li Yan’s expression!
