Chapter 216: Swift Action, ’His’ Mission

Li Yan and Zhang Yurong were on the observation deck when they saw Wen Qianyi and Hai Fu returning from afar, appearing on the beach. Zhang Yurong went down first, while Li Yan stayed on the deck, smoking alone. The three of them had previously participated in a New Year’s event with Li Yan, so even if Zhang Yurong went down to them, it wouldn’t seem out of place to say they met by coincidence. However, Li Yan felt a bit uneasy and wasn’t sure of their current situation, making it inconvenient for him to join them.

As noon approached, feeling bored, he received a phone call from Yu Hong.

"Li Yan, I’ve done my utmost to arrange an investigation team to come over. Your action last night must not alert the enemy!" Yu Hong had already arranged for Ji Yi to take action yesterday. This morning, upon receiving Ji Yi’s report confirming Li Yan’s move, he felt reassured and hastened the arrangements. Yet, he was somewhat worried about the consequences Li Yan had mentioned about alarming the enemy.

Li Yan dismissed him: "Just do your job well. I’ll handle what I’m supposed to, naturally without mistakes!"

"..." Yu Hong felt a bit frustrated. Who dares speak to him like that? But at this moment, he just wanted to ensure everything went smoothly: "The investigation team is ready and heading to Carefree Island. You’ll assist with their reception and lead them to the site. We must catch them red-handed!"

"They’re here already?" Li Yan was a bit surprised; is this really Yun Country’s efficiency?

However, upon second thought, the normal procedures are burdened with bureaucratic hurdles, delays, hidden interests obstructing and concealing. But this time, it’s personally overseen by the mayor. In that sense, there’s nothing worth celebrating.

"Two experts, and the others are police officers. Ji Yi is also on the way, under the guise of a tourist. Your speed needs to be quick. Having served to this age, he’s already very steady. Usually, any events are predictable or sifted through by subordinates. Acting like a police officer made him a bit excited, feeling much younger.

"Ji Yi is coming too? He’ll call me, so that’s fine." Li Yan glanced towards the harbor and indeed saw a boat approaching from the sea.

He descended from the observation deck, then boarded the resort’s car to go to the harbor.

Ten minutes later, Li Yan received the investigation team led by Ji Yi at the harbor. There were eight people in total, aside from Ji Yi and the two experts, the other five were described as reliable police officers. The developers involved in Carefree Island’s construction are very capable big enterprises with intricate connections to government officials. With no connections or strength, participation is impossible. Li Yan welcomed them into the car and brought them to the resort. Before they realized it, he invited them into the restaurant to start lunch.

Once inside the private room and seated, the server hadn’t started taking orders yet. Ji Yi quickly seized the opportunity to whisper, "Xiao Li, we’re not here to eat; we have to quickly get the job done!"

He assumed since Yu Hong made a call asking Li Yan to host them, Li Yan was using the usual way to entertain officials.

The other police officers and experts equally serious gazed at Li Yan, seemingly thinking he’s unreliable. With Mayor Yu’s urgent arrangement, he still had time to invite them to eat, showing corrupt conduct!

Li Yan unceremoniously lit a cigarette, lightly tapping the lighter on the table.

Now I’ve fetched you and invited you to dine. It can be understood as me representing certain companies, entertaining you for interests, and before negotiating further business, your seriousness seems normal. Generally, where would one in a tourist area discuss business or cooperation? A dining table at the very least, right?"

"Understood! You’re doing this to avoid alerting the enemy, calming their nerves and allowing us some adjustments. We’ve been too tense!" Ji Yi nodded in agreement.

The other police officers felt a bit embarrassed; this should be their expertise, yet it required Li Yan’s reminder.

After confirming, things were simpler. They first loosened up with food and drinks. After a hearty meal, with a slightly intoxicated demeanor, they left laughing, vastly different from when they arrived. It gave people the impression that cooperation had been discussed, conditions satisfied, allowing them to relax and enjoy now.
