The First Legendary Demonic Scholar
Chapter 34: The Missions
The system had a basic interface.
It had a single window where he could see his profile and another tab right beside the profile one.
It said...
[Missions]
It was not that Shen Yuan did not know about this tab.
He had received an introduction guide from the system after all.
But with everything going on in his mind.
Trying to survive. The short lifespan he had left. The threats from all unknown people and the dangers of the demonic sect.
And now his poisoning.
Shen Yuan had temporarily forgotten about how broken the cheat of a system he had was.
"I have to be more careful. What use is the perfect memory if I don’t access it"
Shen Yuan focused on the mission section, and two categories appeared before him, side by side.
[Regular Missions] [Main Missions]
He knew the distinction from the information he had received.
The regular missions were randomly generated depending on his situation with corresponding rewards upon completion.
The Main missions were, however, different. Unlike how the main missions in games were connected to the plot line, here they were connected to his life.
Main Missions were generated corresponding to the big events in his life.
Another difference between the two categories was... The regular missions could be accepted at any time and even discarded if he later no longer felt like completing them.
But once he accepted the Main missions, refusing to complete them would have great life consequences.
"Let’s look at the missions first."
Shen Yuan focused on the first category, and a row of missions appeared before them.
[Mission 1: Survive The Servant District 13 ]
[Mission Objective: Become a Senior Servant without dying.
Rewards: 3 Star Profound Essence Pill.]
[Mission 2: The First Profound Technique]
[Mission Objective: Reach Perfection level mastery in any profound-level technique.
Reward: 2 Star Medicinal Recipe on any Topic Of Choice.]
[Mission 3: Take revenge in the name of the boy servant from the demon fire restaurant].
After a quick scroll, he moved on to the next category.
The Main Missions.
Unlike the other section, this one only had a single mission.
[Current Main Mission: Allure of Deceit.]
Mission Objective: Find out who poisoned you and their motives.
Reward: Legacy of the Deceitful One. Partial (1/3)
Upon Failure: Turning into someone’s puppet and A life worse than living.
"Legacy?" A frown appeared on Shen Yuan’s face. His finger traced the rough handle of the axe while his eyes drifted to the two moons high up in the sky. "Whatever it may be, I will know it once I complete the mission."
Shen Yuan had already made up his mind.
He would find out who had poisoned him.
However. He won’t just stop at their motives. He planned to do much more than that.
"I will make sure they understand that there are consequences in life for everything."
His eyes slipped past the rewards and landed on the repercussions of failing the mission. Although they sounded menacing and deadly, Shen Yuan had no intention of backing down.
"They are no different from what would happen to me if I didn’t take the mission and find them before the poison takes over me."
Although Shen Yuan did not know how long he had before the poison started to influence him, he was not going to back down from giving his all even if it was one day.
"I can’t take more than two random missions at a time, so I will have to choose those I have a higher chance of completing first." After pondering for a while, Shen Yuan decided to separate the missions based on rewards and how fast he could complete them.
Maybe it was a coincidence, but the first two missions were perfect for him.
One of them was something he had to do either way, and the other was something he realized he should have done as soon as he got the real technique.
As for other Missions...
’The third mission is darkened. Why is that? Can I no longer take it?’ Shen Yuan instantly connected the mission and the boy he had found dead.
The killer of the boy had already been killed by him.
But Shen Yuan did not get a reward for it, and the mission was blackened.
"Does this mean I have to accept the mission first?" Shen Yuan decided to test with another useless mission in the future but right now every mission was important for him.
[Missions Accepted.]
Waving the system screen away, Shen Yuan raised his axe again and started cutting the chopped tree down in small sections.
The servant hall was open all day, so if someone wanted to do a mission in the middle of the night, they could, but rarely did anyone prefer that.
The nights in the Blood Moon Sect were treacherous and dark.
After dropping the woods he had chopped to the warehouse behind the servant hall in several batches. Shen Yuan took on a mission to clean the toilet once more.
There was also a mission to become the pet of an outer disciple for a day in exchange for 50 Girds.
Shen Yuan did not even look at it.
He would have rejected that request even if the disciple were a woman.
...
Taking a long bath in the lake, Shen Yuan washed away the tiresome weight of the day even before it started.
Returning to his hut, he closed himself inside it and sat down before the old cracked wooden desk.
He took out a quill and a paper from his belongings and started scribbling.
"Pending Tasks!"
He wrote down everything he had yet to do and needed to do from here on out.
"I have to prioritize getting stronger and gaining as many attribute points as possible." After finding out he could gain extra stat points, Shen Yuan knew he could not let the opportunity slip through his fingers.
Before long, he was done with his list.
"As for the task I should get to work on first?" Shen Yuan took his time to select the task before burning the list he had made. "...it should be this!"
