Inside Interrogation Room No. 1, the cold white light made the cramped space as bright as day.

Wang Yang and Zhou Yong sat once again at the interrogation table, exchanging a knowing glance as they embarked on a new round of questioning.

He fixed his eyes on the young man opposite, named Wang Ming, trying to find a breakthrough in every subtle change in the young man's expressions.

However, the next half-hour of continuous interrogation felt like hitting cotton with a fist.

No matter how they changed their interrogation strategy, Wang Ming maintained an annoying calm.

This dark-skinned young man only mechanically repeated the same set of words: "I really just hauled some fruit and don't know anything else."

His voice was as calm as still water, without any change in tone.

At that moment, Wang Yang subconsciously tightened his grip on the pen in his hand, his knuckles whitening from the pressure.

Having worked in criminal investigation for nearly thirty years, he had encountered a myriad of criminals.

There were cunning drug lords like foxes.

Brutal habitual serial killers.

And even high-IQ economic criminals.

But even the most elusive adversaries usually exposed a flaw after two or three hours of intensive interrogation.

Yet this seemingly ordinary young man in front of him did not falter even in his gaze after an hour and a half of relentless questioning.

With a "bang," Wang Yang suddenly slammed the table, but then forced himself to sit back down.

This unusual act drew a concerned look from Zhou Yong.

Wang Yang took a deep breath and heavily marked several lines in the interrogation notes, then shook his head resignedly.

He turned and patted Zhou Yong on the shoulder, and the two tacitly got up and left the interrogation room.

In the corridor, Wang Yang pulled a slightly crumpled pack of cigarettes from his pocket, withdrawing one with a slightly rough motion.

He handed one to Zhou Yong, and the two veteran detectives silently smoked, neither opting to speak first.

He took a deep drag, letting the nicotine circulate in his lungs, as if trying to exhale the frustration in his chest.

Ultimately, Zhou Yong broke the silence: "Mr. Wang, this young man...his reactions don't quite seem like he's lying."

"Could it be possible that he really has nothing to do with the case?"

Zhou Yong's voice carried a hint of hesitation, his fingers unconsciously stroking the cigarette.

Wang Yang did not answer immediately.

He stared into the blinking emergency exit sign at the hallway's end, lost in thought.

The cigarette burned slowly between his fingertips as ash silently fell to the ground.

"Whether or not he's innocent!"

Wang Yang finally spoke, his voice low and hoarse, "According to the regulations, we have to detain him for at least 24 hours."

He glanced at his watch, "Now, let's meet the other truck driver, Qin Yong."

Looking at Wang Yang's solemn profile, Zhou Yong hesitated for a moment before speaking again: "Regarding the autopsy report, I think the forensics team's conclusion is quite clear."

"The characteristics of the injuries fully match the trauma pattern caused by a traffic accident."

Wang Yang turned his head and managed a tired smile: "I certainly believe that."

"Mr. Jiang's professional expertise is beyond doubt."

He extinguished the cigarette, his gaze turning sharp, "But the issue now is, how do we make them talk?"

Zhou Yong's eyes suddenly lit up: "Captain, I have an idea."

"We can conduct a more thorough investigation of their vehicles, especially the front parts, to see if there are any signs of impact."

"Impact signs?"

Wang Yang abruptly raised his head, his brow relaxing, "Are you suggesting starting from physical evidence?"

"Exactly."

Zhou Yong's voice elevated slightly due to excitement, "If the interrogation doesn't yield any progress, we'll need a new path."

"Assuming this really is a case of vehicular homicide and body disposal, then the weapon is indeed the vehicle."

"As long as we find evidence of body deformation or repainting... "

Wang Yang's eyes brightened, cutting in before Zhou Yong could finish: "We could establish a complete chain of evidence! Great idea!"

He forcefully patted Zhou Yong's back, "Immediately contact the site survey team and instruct them to focus on examining every detail of the vehicle's front, especially any repair marks on hidden parts."

"Understood!"

Zhou Yong quickly pulled out his phone and dialed the number for the survey team.

Two minutes later, Zhou Yong lowered his phone and turned to Wang Yang, "Mr. Wang, arrangements have been made according to your instructions."

"Two teams of inspectors are proceeding in parallel, immediately conducting surveys on the two trucks."

Wang Yang took a deep drag and slowly exhaled smoke rings, his gaze profoundly directed towards the interrogation room's direction.

He nodded, his voice low and firm, "This way, even if the two suspects refuse to disclose anything, we can still find a breakthrough through evidence and technical means."

"The law is all-encompassing and inescapable; the perpetrator will ultimately face justice."

They silently finished the last drag from the cigarette.

Wang Yang pressed the cigarette butt heavily into the ashtray above the trash can, then ground it with the heel of his shoe, as if crushing his irritation included.

He straightened the collar of his somewhat disheveled uniform and said solemnly, "Let's go meet Qin Yong in Interrogation Room No. 2."

"Understood."

Zhou Yong responded briskly, pushing open the heavy iron door of the interrogation room.

Similar to Wang Ming in Room No. 1, Qin Yong had a face full of confusion and incomprehension.

The same opening line, the same interrogation process, even the suspect's reactions were eerily similar.

But with the experience from the first round, Wang Yang and Zhou Yong's interrogation rhythm was significantly faster.

In less than forty minutes, the interrogation room was filled with the successive sounds of slamming desks.
