Immediately, the rocky stone walls changed in an instant, they went from looking like city walls built in primitive times, with rough patches and a crude rocky finish, to something far more refined, as if they had been crafted in a much more advanced era.
The walls were now smooth, almost as if whoever had built them had finally learned how to properly use cement and shaping techniques, but that wasn’t all.
At the four corners of his new settlement stood four arrow towers, their structures seemed to begin with strong wood, but metal had also been incorporated into the design, making them look much firmer and more advanced.
Not too far from the edge stood a massive barracks, just like the one in his castle, though he had never gone to inspect the army barracks in his own territory before, however; he didn’t dare ignore this one, especially with the wave attack about to begin.
He was fully aware that he alone wouldn’t be able to cover every edge of his city wall, which meant he needed every bit of help he could get, so he walked toward the barracks, and the moment he got close enough, an interface appeared before him, displaying a list of racial warrior units he could summon.
There were Barbarian Warriors, Amazon Archers, Giants, and even Goblin Thieves.
Each type of unit came with its own hero.
However, Alec immediately felt that the Goblin Thieves and the Giants were not what he needed for defense, they were more suited for offense.
The Barbarian Warriors and the Amazon Archers, on the other hand, were perfect for the defensive battle that could begin at any minute, he then checked the limit of units he could summon and saw that the cap was five hundred at his current City Heart level.
Which caused him to be curious about how much more he could summon if he upgraded his city heart, so immediately after that, he checked how much energy it would take to upgrade his City Heart to the next level.
And then he saw it—the total cost was half a million points, the moment Alec noticed that, he abandoned the idea at once and focused on summoning instead.
He chose 350 Barbarian Warriors and 150 Amazon Archers.
Once he was done, he realized that 35,000 and 22,500 energy had been deducted respectively for the Barbarian Warriors and Amazon Archers.
It cost 100 energy to summon one Barbarian Warrior, while one Amazon Archer cost 150 energy.
The moment he saw the deduction, tall and rugged men with heavy beards began pouring out of the barracks in droves, they wore beast furs and carried heavy weapons, while those without oversized weapons were clearly dual-wielding instead.
As soon as they stepped out, they bowed toward Alec, showing reverence to the lord who had summoned them.
The Amazon women, on the other hand, were far more covered than the barbarians, some of whom didn’t even bother wearing anything over their upper bodies. The Amazons all wore fitted leather armor, carried bows that looked as though they had been carved from ancient trees, and had quivers strapped across their backs.
All of them seemed to radiate auras ranging from Tier 4 to Tier 6, and Alec now fully understood why it was called a mid-rank barracks, he wouldn’t know the exact realm of the warriors he was summoning; all he could rely on was that they would fall within the mid-rank category.
Then he remembered what Arthur had once told him, that with heroes around, these troops performed far better, because the heroes of their race acted as commanders over them just as generals would over soldiers. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
With that in mind, Alec returned to the barracks interface and opened the Hero section. For the Barbarians, he saw Connan the Barbarian, and for the Amazons, he saw the Amazon Warrior Queen. Connan cost 10,000 energy, while the Amazon Warrior Queen cost 15,000.
He didn’t hesitate for even a second and bought them both, bringing his total expenses to 82,500 energy and leaving him with only 34,500 energy left.
After that, Connan and the Amazon Warrior Queen stepped out of the barracks, and the moment Alec saw the muscular, battle-hardened man with a leather strap on his head with a longsword and the elegant woman with a purple-black cape fluttering behind her a massive crossbow and short swords in waist, he felt more than satisfied with his choice.
The first thing they both did after coming out was drop to one knee and greet Alec with respect.
[Warning!!! First wave will begin now. Lords, prepare for battle.]
However, before Alec could continue enjoying the absolute loyalty and respect his new units were showing him, the warning message appeared, followed by countless loud shrieks echoing through the air.
The moment that happened, Connan rose to his feet.
“My lord, leave the defense to us. Just make sure every other thing you want to set up is completed. We will make sure no harm comes to you,” Connan said as he assigned about fifty Barbarian Warriors to form a protective circle around Alec.
A chair was quickly brought over for him to sit on, with a table placed before him, while the Amazon Warrior Queen had already ordered about three archers each onto the arrow towers.
At the same time, the Barbarian Warriors were climbing onto the city gates by throwing ropes while using it to climb and spreading across every angle under Connan’s command.
While the Amazon Warrior Queen then positioned her warriors behind the Barbarian line who had passed the stairs like normal people should, the amazon archers were to fire from a safe distance while the Barbarians held the front and protected them.
In an instant, every part of the defense was covered.
Even so, Alec still opened the store to check what else he could purchase, though he knew they were already well prepared for now, he just didn’t see any harm in being overprepared.
After all, he had all these points, and it wasn’t as if he could take them back with him, so he might as well use them now.
He went through the store and bought one mortar, placing it at the center of his territory, and then four cannons along the sides of the walls.
The good thing about them was that they were under automatic control, as long as anyone who wasn’t a member of Alec’s army crossed the threshold, they wouldn’t hesitate to fire.
“Now I’m ready,” Alec said after his two heroes finished giving him a detailed breakdown of how they planned to defend the city.
However; not long after, he began to hear it, the distant rumbling of footsteps, countless footsteps, all rushing toward his location.
Alec then slowly levitated into the air, intending to get a clear look at what the Zergs of this world actually looked like.
