"How far these stairs go?" Seraphina asked. Her voice echoed softly against the massive stone walls.

"We just crossed the boundary of the fifth floor," Kaelen answered.

He kept his pace steady. His dark aura cut a clean path through the swirling purple mist.

"Does the pressure bother you?" Kaelen asked.

"It’s heavy," she admitted. She rolled her shoulders beneath the borrowed chainmail. "The miasma here feels like deep water. A normal Vanguard squad would die from bursting lungs within minutes."

"They rely on the World Tree’s light," Kaelen stated. "Down here, the light becomes a beacon for predators. My void magic is real magic. It hides us."

Seraphina paused. She looked down at the bottom of the staircase, makes her golden eyes widened in shock.

"Master, look," she whispered.

Kaelen stopped beside her. His enhanced vision pierced the gloom with ease.

They were no longer in a cavern. The stairs ended at the edge of a massive subterranean city.

Tall, fragile towers of black stone reached into the darkness. Ancient courtyards lay in ruin.

Pale, glowing flora overgrew the streets. The architecture was sharp and elegant. It was entirely foreign to the human kingdom above.

"A city," Seraphina breathed out. "An entire ruined civilization is buried beneath the Chasm. The Church never knew. about it"

"The Grand Inquisitor knew," Kaelen corrected her coldly.

He resumed his descent. He took the last few massive steps.

"He sealed the tenth floor, remember? The Church knew this place existed. They erased it from the history books."

"Why?" she asked. She hurried to keep up.

"Because it proves their religion is a lie," Kaelen smirked. He stepped onto the cracked obsidian cobblestones. "They preach the World Tree created all life. They claim it built the first cities, but these ruins predate the Tree by thousands of years. This is ancient."

Seraphina gripped her broadsword tightly. The indoctrination of her youth was shattered, but seeing physical proof still shocked her.

"They sent thousands of knights to die here," she said bitterly. "They called it a holy crusade to purge the darkness. They were just guarding a secret."

"And mining crystals for profit," Kaelen added. "Don’t forget the gold."

"I was fool."

Kaelen stopped. He turned to face her. He reached out and gently tilted her chin up.

"You were a weapon they aimed at the dark. Now you are mine. I aim you wherever I please."

"Yes, Master," she answered without hesitation. She leaned slightly into his palm.

"Stay alert," Kaelen ordered. He dropped his hand. "The energy here is extremely dense. The system warns of dormant high-level entities."

They walked carefully through the dead streets. The glowing flora illuminated intricate carvings on the ruins. The carvings depicted massive, multi-winged creatures and humans wielding void magic.

A sharp scrape of metal shattered the silence.

"Right flank," Seraphina called out. She immediately shifted into a defensive stance.

Two towering figures emerged from a collapsed archway. They stood over seven feet tall. They were encased in rusted, jagged black armor. Deep, violet eyes glowed from their heavy helms. They wielded massive, two-handed greatswords forged from dark glass.

[System Alert. High-Threat Entities encountered.]

[Abyssal Sentinels: Level 60.]

[Notice: These constructs possess extreme physical defense. Holy magic is ineffective.]

"Level sixty," Kaelen read aloud. "It’s a moving armor. A construct."

"I will shatter their joints," Seraphina declared.

"No," Kaelen stopped her. He drew his chipped hunting knife then Kaelen flared his aura. A glowing three-foot abyssal blade formed. "You must attack their weapons, knock them off balance. I will sever their core runes."

"Understood."

The first Sentinel lunged. It moved with terrifying speed despite its size. It swung its glass greatsword in a devastating horizontal arc. It aimed directly at Kaelen’s torso.

Seraphina intercepted the blow. She met it head-on. She swung her broadsword with the full force of her Level 85 stats.

The weapons clashed. Thunder echoed through the ruined city.

The impact forced the Sentinel to stagger backward, leaving Its guard blew wide open. Seraphina’s borrowed blade was cracked heavily, but it still functional.

"Now!" she shouted.

Kaelen leaped over the falling rubble. He slid beneath the Sentinel’s arms. He drove his void blade directly into the gap between its breastplate and helm.

The dark magic pierced the construct’s internal runic core.

The Sentinel froze. The violet light in its visor flickered and died. The massive armor collapsed into scrap metal.

"One down," Kaelen grinned. He pivoted on his heel.

The second Sentinel did not hesitate. It ignored Kaelen, and charged Seraphina. The second Sentinel brought its greatsword down in a brutal, vertical chop.

Seraphina didn’t block. She sidestepped with flawless footwork. The heavy glass blade smashed into the cobblestones.

Seraphina stepped into the construct’s guard, stabbing the hilt of her sword directly into its faceplate. The creature was stunned.

Kaelen leaped into the air, landing squarely on the Sentinel’s armored shoulders. He plunged his dark blade directly through the top of its helm.

The second core shattered into pieces, causing the armor crumpled instantly. Kaelen landed gracefully on the ground.

[Entities Eliminated. Massive Experience gained.]

[Host Level Increased: 40 -> 42.]

Kaelen dismissed his aura. He was panting slightly. The fight was short, but the movements required intense focus.

"Excellent strategy," Seraphina praised him. She inspected her broadsword. The edge was heavily notched from a single clash. "This cheap steel won’t survive another encounter."

"Then we take theirs," Kaelen suggested.

He walked towards the fallen constructs. The massive glass greatswords lay intact, and Kaelen slowly grabbed the hilt.

"Heavy..." Kaelen muttered, but still lifted it easily because his new strength. "But perfectly balanced. Try it."

He throw the dark glass blade to her. Seraphina caught it easily and she began to play with it by swinging around. The weapon left a faint purple trail in the air.

"This thing vibrates with mana energy," she noted. Seraphina looked genuinely impressed. "It’s incredibly sharp."

"It suits you better than Church steel," Kaelen said. He stepped closer to her, then he noticed a faint tremor in her hands. "You’re shaking."

"The miasma..." she admitted. She lowered the new blade. "Your aura protects me, but the pressure is pushing into my veins. The third-floor corruption left my core unstable."

Kaelen frowned. He reached out. He placed his bare hand against her collarbone.

[System Prompt: Target’s mana circuit is fatigued. Abyssal resonance recommended to stabilize companion.]

"So cold..." Kaelen observed. He felt the chill radiating from her skin.

"I just need a moment," she whispered, leaned heavily into his touch.

"You need more than just a moment," Kaelen corrected her gently. "Your body is fighting the environment. You need extra fluids"

Seraphina looked up into his eyes. Her breathing hitched slightly. "Here? In the open ruins?"

"Who will see us?" Kaelen asked. A sensual smirk played on his lips. "The dead sentinels? We share a bond, Seraphina. When you’re weaken, I feed you. When I need strength, I take it from you."

"Then feed me, Master," she requested softly, dropped her gaze to his lips.

Kaelen pulled her close to his chest. His left arm wrapped tightly around her waist. He kissed her deeply, their mana circuits fully connected.

The reaction was instantaneous.

Seraphina gasped softly against his mouth. The cold, suffocating pressure vanished from her system. It was replaced by the scorching heat of Kaelen’s pure void mana.

Kaelen pushed his energy directly into her core. He sealed the microscopic fractures in her soul.

Seraphina dropped her new glass sword. It clattered against the cobblestones.

She wrapped both arms tightly around his neck, pulling him closer. She kissed him back hungrily, desperate for the stability and power he provided.

[Resonance achieved. Target mana circuit stabilized.]

Kaelen broke the kiss slowly. He kept his arms around her, feeling her heart pouding against his chest. Her skin flushed with a healthy, intense warmth.

"Better?" he asked quietly.

"Much better," she breathed out, rested her forehead against his chin. "Your magic... it’s entirely addictive."

"Good," Kaelen said. He released her waist and stepped back. Kaelen picked up her new glass greatsword, then handed it back to her. "We still have four more floors to clear before we reach the Core."

"I’m ready," she promised, gripped the weapon with renewed, terrifying strength.

"Let’s hunt," Kaelen smiled. He turned his gaze toward the dark heart of the forgotten city.
