Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Kaelen the Dungeon Master

Kaelen kept his hands pressed firmly against the massive violet crystal. The Primordial Core pulsed beneath his palms, feeling exactly like a living, beating heart.

Golden text flashed across his vision. The residual holy light from the shattered cage quickly faded, replaced entirely by a deep, abyssal purple.

[Initializing Dungeon Master Interface...]

[Synchronizing Host Mana Circuit with the Primordial Core...] [Synchronization Complete. Calculating Territorial Authority.]

A sudden, overwhelming rush of information flooded Kaelen’s mind. He gasped, his eyes widening.

He didn’t just see the tenth floor. He felt the entire dungeon.

His consciousness expanded upward. Now, he feel the cold, smooth walls of the ninth floor, the swarms of parasitic blood-bats hanging from the ceiling, heavy footsteps from Obsidian Golems patrolling the eighth floor, and also the venomous driders spinning their webs in the Weeping Caverns.

Every single monster in the Abyssal Chasm suddenly stopped moving.

They all turned their grotesque heads toward the deep earth, felt the shift in the ambient mana. A new god had claimed the underworld, immediately they bowed their heads in silent, instinctual reverence.

"Incredible," Kaelen breathed out, pulled his hands away from the crystal.

The dense purple miasma in the cavern began to swirl. It did not attack him. It orbited around his body like obedient, loyal smoke.

[Scanning Host Status...]

[Warning: Host has crossed the Level 50 Threshold.]

Kaelen frowned at the sudden warning. He opened his personal status screen.

He had reached Level 52 after the grueling, three-day descent. He had slaughtered hundreds of high-level beasts. However, the experience bar for Level 53 was completely frozen.

The massive amounts of EXP he normally gained from boss monsters had plummeted. A kill that used to grant him a full level now offered only single digits of experience.

[System Notice: The Mid-Tier Bottleneck has been reached.] [Raw experience from standard combat is now severely restricted by the laws of Aethelgard.]

[To progress to the Platinum tier, the host must utilize Horizontal Progression.]

"A bottleneck," Kaelen muttered aloud. His violet eyes narrowed as he read the floating text.

It made perfect sense. This was the reason why elite Vanguard knights on the surface rarely leveled past the fifties. The world’s system deliberately capped physical growth. It forced individuals to stop relying purely on brute force.

The tutorial phase of his new life was officially over.

He couldn’t just slaughter lower-level monsters forever. The system required him to grow his power through entirely different means. He needed to expand his territorial domain, level up his existing skills to higher tiers. Most importantly, he needed to empower his companions.

Seraphina stepped up beside him. Her borrowed chainmail was covered in dry, black monster blood. She looked exhausted, but her golden eyes were sharp and attentive.

"Is something wrong, Master?" she asked. "Did the Core reject you?"

"No," Kaelen smirked, turning to face her. "The Core is mine. The system is just forcing me to play a different game."

He swiped his hand through the empty air. The purple interface expanded beautifully before his eyes. It was a massive, complex menu that only he could see.

[Dungeon Points (DP) Available: 145,000.]

[DP acquired from: First-time Core discovery, Boss eliminations, Territorial claim.]

Kaelen looked at the massive number. He opened a tab labeled [Construction].

A highly detailed, holographic map of the tenth-floor cavern appeared above his open palm. He could shape this dead stone however he wanted: altering the terrain, spawn underground rivers, or digging new tunnels. He was an absolute architect down here.

"Seraphina," Kaelen said, turned to look at the fallen Paladin. "We have been fighting for three straight days. You need a proper place to rest."

"I can sleep on the stone, Master," she replied loyally. She gripped her heavy glass greatsword. "My body is tough. I don’t need a comfort place to rest."

"You’re not even a stray dog," Kaelen corrected her softly. "You are the Vanguard of my Sanctuary. You are a Queen in the dark. You deserve better than a cold rock."

Seraphina blinked, thoroughly stunned by his words. No one in the Church had ever spoken to her like that. They only demanded her obedience.

Kaelen scrolled through the massive construction menu. He bypassed the options for basic tents and wooden cabins, he wanted something permanent. Then Kaelen selected a high-tier blueprint.

[Purchase: Obsidian Manor (Basic). Cost: 25,000 DP. Confirm?]

"Confirm," Kaelen whispered.

The massive spherical cavern violently shook.

Seraphina stumbled slightly. She raised her greatsword instantly, her eyes darting around the empty space to search for an enemy. "An earthquake?"

"Creation magic," Kaelen answered calmly.

The smooth stone floor near the edge of the cavern began to crack and splinter. Massive slabs of pure, black bedrock rose from the earth like rapidly growing trees. The dungeon itself was obeying Kaelen’s command, building a structure out of thin air and raw mana.

Thick obsidian columns twisted and locked together. Smooth, deep violet glass formed within the window frames. Intricate archways carved themselves into the dark stone.

Within seconds, the shaking stopped.

A large, elegant manor stood tall in the darkness. The fortress was a symbol of pure luxury and impressive defense. It was entirely unfamiliar to the human architecture of the surface world. It indeed beautiful.

"Oh my god..." Seraphina breathed out. Her heavy sword slowly lowered until the tip rested on the ground., stared at the manor in absolute awe.

"We don’t pray to them anymore," Kaelen reminded her gently.

He looked back at his interface. The cavern was still exposed to the raw, untamed miasma pouring off the Primordial Core. It was a hostile environment. He opened the [Security] tab next. They needed absolute privacy and safety.

[Purchase: Shadow-Weave Barrier (Tier 3). Cost: 10,000 DP. Confirm?]

He confirmed the purchase immediately.

A massive dome of shifting, translucent shadows erupted from the ground around the manor. The barrier expanded outward, enveloping the entire property. It actively pushed back the dense, toxic miasma of the tenth floor.

The air inside the dome instantly cleared. The oppressive, freezing pressure of the dungeon vanished, replaced by a cool, clean breeze. The barrier completely silenced the ambient, echoing noises of the deep Chasm.

It was a true sanctuary.

"The manor is unprotected," Kaelen noted. He scrolled down the security menu, then he found the perfect solution under the summoning tab.

[Purchase: Two Abyssal Gargoyles (Level 55 Guards). Cost: 20,000 DP. Confirm?]

Kaelen confirmed it.

Two massive pillars of gray stone erupted from the ground at the front gates of the obsidian manor. The stone shifted and cracked. Two towering, winged statues stepped out of the pillars.

They were monstrous creatures forged from solid rock. Their massive bat-like wings folded neatly behind their backs, and their stone eyes suddenly ignited with a violent, glowing red light.

The Gargoyles turned their heavy heads toward Kaelen. They recognized their creator instantly, immediately dropped to one knee, bowing their horned heads in perfect synchronization.

"Stand guard," Kaelen commanded. "Kill anything that approaches the barrier."

The statues rose. They turned their backs to the manor, their red eyes scanning the dark cavern with lethal intent.

Kaelen finally dismissed the floating purple interface.

He checked his remaining balance. He still had 90,000 DP left to spend. It was more than enough to build deadly traps and summon monster hordes for the upper floors later.

Right now, he had a much different priority.

He walked toward the manor. He stopped at the edge of the shadow barrier and held out his bare hand to Seraphina.

"Come," Kaelen commanded softly. His voice echoed in the quiet space.

Seraphina looked at him.

"The barrier keeps the poison out entirely," Kaelen explained. His violet eyes locked onto hers. "We can finally take off this heavy armor. It’s time to rest."

Seraphina looked at his outstretched hand. A deep, heavy blush spread rapidly across her pale cheeks. She understood exactly what he meant.

Her mana core was currently stable, but it was starving for his direct touch. They had survived the terrifying descent, they had achieved the ultimate prize. Now, it was time to claim the reward.

She took his hand without a single hesitation. Her skin felt incredibly warm against his palm.

"Yes, Kaelen," she whispered.

He pulled her close. They walked past the bowing, demonic gargoyles. They stepped through the shadow barrier and entered their new home together.

The heavy obsidian doors closed automatically, sealing tightly shut behind them.

The raw, violent combat was over. The real, intimate progression was about to begin
