The Hero is An Academy Librarian
Chapter 2: Librarian Percival
"He looks so cool!"
The blond girl had stars in her eyes as she gazed up at the hero’s statue, and the lynx girl nodded quickly as her tail swished around excitedly! Both girls would have stayed there forever staring at Verati’s statue if they could, but they were suddenly pulled out of their admiration as someone spoke up from behind them.
"Hello, little ones. Is there something I can help you with?"
"Kya!"
The girls turned around in shock, and they set their eyes on the most beautiful woman they had ever seen! She was tall and slim with a face that would easily draw the eye of any man! Her skin was as pale as paper, and she had pure white hair that fell all the way down to her waist! Her eyes were a blood red that seemed to stare right through you, and she was dressed in a black outfit that gave her the appearance of a beautiful demoness!
The two girls were stunned by the sheer beauty of this person, but the lynx girl was even more surprised by the fact that she hadn’t heard this woman walk up to them at all! The lynx had amazing hearing, and they could notice people coming towards them from a mile away, but it was as if this woman simply appeared behind them without her feet touching the ground!
The woman smiled, and the two girls felt their bodies shiver when they saw the long fangs peeking from the woman’s mouth!
A Vampire!
"Now, don’t be so frightened, children. I don’t bite. Well, not unless I’m feeding."
The woman stopped, and she looked at the girls like she expected them to laugh at her joke, but the girls only swallowed nervously! The woman tried again.
"Is there something I can help you with? You two must be first years, is that right?"
The lynx girl didn’t look like she was going to say anything since she was still shocked, so the blond girl had to step up, and she stammered out that they were indeed first years.
"Y-Yes, ma’am, we’re first years. They told us to come here for our textbooks."
The vampire woman clapped with a happy smile, and the girls were even more stunned by how much more beautiful that made her look! It wasn’t normal for someone to be this beautiful!
"Lana!"
Woosh!
A gust of wind flashed across the central annex, and the two girls turned in surprise as another girl appeared! This girl looked to be around the same age as them, but she was wearing a black and white maid’s gown, so it was obvious that she worked here. Two long horns were twisting up from the girl’s head, and behind her was a large black tail that looked powerful enough to break through a brick wall!
Lana saluted with a wide smile!
"Lana is reporting for duty, Madam Rita!"
The vampire woman smiled, and she gestured to the two girls beside her.
"Please help them retrieve their textbooks from the storage room. I have some deliveries to make this morning."
Lana nodded seriously and held up a fist like she was making a grand declaration!
"Lana will make sure they get their books if it is the last thing Lana does! You can trust Lana!"
Rita chuckled softly while petting Lana’s head, and she hummed as she looked towards the empty reception desk on the opposite side of the room.
"Lana, where is Percival?"
Rita asked this with a small frown, and Lana’s entire face lit up as she answered!
"Master is meditating upstairs! He says no one is to disturb him!"
Rita’s eye twitched when she heard this, and the two girls felt a powerful aura rising from her body!
"Is that so?"
Rita’s voice came out in a low, annoyed tone, but Lana didn’t seem to notice that as she nodded excitedly! Rita told Lana to help the girls with their books, and she waved at the two girls as she began to make her way through the library. Rita moved towards an elevator embedded into the wall beside the stairs and went in and placed her hand on a crystal ball beside her. The ball absorbed magic from her body, and the elevator came to life and began to move up through the shelves. Rita passed ten shelves before she stopped at the eleventh shelf and walked out of the elevator.
As Rita walked, her feet made no sound against the floor, and she moved with so much grace that it seemed like she was gliding on ice rather than walking! There were rows of books arranged on shelves to Rita’s left, but there was no one on this floor of the library since it was a restricted section only accessible to very few people.
Rita reached a seemingly unimportant part of the library, and she pulled back a book. The shelf in front of her sank in before shifting to the left to reveal a large hallway, and Rita walked through before the shelf went back into place. The hallway Rita entered was made from simple concrete with a white light shining down from above. There was a door on the opposite end of the hallway, and Rita went up and opened it to reveal a large bedroom!
The room was brightly lit by the morning sun shining through the large window. There was a large table and chair on one side of the room, and a long couch with a few magazines on the other side. Rita looked down at the robe on the floor, and she rolled her eyes in exasperation as she realised that Percival had been working all night again. Rita picked up the robe and folded it in her hands carefully before dropping it on the center table in front of the couch. And then she looked at the large queen-sized bed beside the window and the man sleeping in it.
The man was wearing nothing but a pair of boxer shorts, so his toned physique was on full display. He had wild black hair and a sharp, handsome face that made him look very attractive. He was sleeping on top of his blankets, so it was obvious that he had thrown himself into bed the moment he came in last night, and Rita let out a soft sigh as she watched him sleep.
For close to five minutes, Rita simply stood there and watched him without bothering to move, but she eventually stepped forward and crawled onto the bed softly. Rita placed her arm around Percival’s waist, and she smiled when he let out a soft breath.
"So this is what you call meditation?"
There was an amused tilt in Rita’s voice, and the man answered tiredly.
"Lana wouldn’t leave me alone unless I said that."
Percival spoke in a strong, deep voice that sent a shiver down Rita’s spine! Rita bit her lip and shuffled up slightly so she was almost lying on top of Percival. Rita rubbed her hand against Percival’s face softly.
"You were studying that rune sequence last night?"
Percival hummed in response, and he leaned into Rita’s touch.
"It’s complicated, but I’m almost done."
Rita couldn’t help but chuckle in amusement! The rune sequence Percival was working on was a first-grade rune with one of the most complex algorithms that Rita had ever seen! It would usually take an entire research team more than five years just to analyse something like that, but Percy was creating it from scratch, and he says he would soon be done after just one week! Who else in the world could say something like that!?
’I hope you understand how amazing you are, Percival.’
Rita smiled as she watched the light dancing across Percy’s face. Sometimes, Rita wondered what her life would have been like if Percy hadn’t saved her all those years ago. She would probably be dead somewhere in a ditch, or she would’ve been taken by a dark organization as a research subject. Percy had changed Rita’s life, and she swore that she would spend the rest of her new life trying to repay him for what he had done.
