"Right, I’ll kill them faster," Lia says while looking back towards me.

I walk over to her after she finishes her sentence.

"Do you mind?" I ask softly.

"Go ahead," She responds without any hesitation in her voice.

Gently I sink my teeth into her neck, slowly feeling the blood coming into my fangs. Her blood might become an addiction for me at some point with how sweet it really is.

BA-DUM. BA-DUM.

Something feels different this time... Almost like a chain is wrapping around me tightly.

My knees give out and I fall to the ground for a moment while trying not to completely fall over. Her blood never did this to me before so why am I suddenly feeling this?

"Dante are you okay?!" Lia says with worry in her voice.

"Just need a second," I reply while looking down at my hands.

Flashes go past my eyes for a few moments, each time I see different versions of my hands. It is almost like scales appear for brief moments and then disappear afterwards.

My heart finally starts to calm down as I feel the "chains" disappearing.

"Over here! We got two more, it also looks like they killed some of our guys!" A soldier shouts.

CLENCH!

I form a fist before punching the ground with some of the anger starting to show.

Humans really don’t know when to give me a break... Especially when I’m in the middle of something. Amelia is still not confirmed to be safe or found so I’d rather not waste my time on them.

Yet, it’ll never be that easy.

SLAM!!!!

Part of the ground breaks as I lift my fist up after slamming it down. Another group of soldiers arrives with swords in hand.

"Dante what do you want to do? Are you sure you’re okay?" Lia asks multiple things at once.

Pat. Pat.

"We’ll kill them and move on," I answer after giving her a few pats on the head.

This invigorating feeling isn’t like the ones from before... It might be a lot better than what I felt originally. I think this will be more than enough to handle some grunts like them.

I sheathe my sword before rushing towards them.

As the soldier goes to swing his sword towards me I duck under it and swing my fist upwards.

It connects with his chest and knocks him into the air as the others look at me with a surprised expression on their faces. These ones don’t seem to have their faces covered like the others.

KICK!!!!

Before he can hit the ground I drive a kick into his stomach, sending him flying towards one of the buildings.

"W-We need a hunter now!" The soldier shouts with fear in his voice.

So they do have hunters with them, can’t say I’m surprised since this city isn’t really known for supporting them. It probably gives them the idea that vampires do hide here as well.

Well, they’d be right in thinking that since the king himself is one. It’ll also be quite obvious that I’m one as well since I just showed my strength alone.

Adventurers are strong but I don’t think they’ve been known to do that kind of damage before. Or have they?

Lia will have to educate me a bit on that since I don’t know.

Without thinking I move out of the way as a bullet fires past me. Humans always love to use guns against each other; Vampires aren’t really the best target for that since we can move quite fast.

One glance tells me he is on the rooftop to my left and is starting to panic already.

"Stop just standing around!!! Kill him!!!" A captain shouts with frustration.

They all begin to rush me, using their numbers against me.

After about a minute of armor clanging around they start to move away and I just continue to watch them from a distance. They didn’t even notice that I left the moment I was surrounded... But that is fairly normal for a human.

I wrap my arms around the neck of the soldier on the rooftop.

"P-Please... I’m just doing my job..." the soldier begs.

"Quick to beg after attempting to take my life," I say with a cold tone.

"We are just supposed to kill everyone here..." he replies with terror in his voice.

Why would another kingdom want everyone killed? I feel like the people here could be useful for some things. This is starting to get more and more interesting by the moment.

"What Kingdom are you from?" I ask while tightening my grip.

"Lumiel!! Lumiel!!" He answers.

His voice is loud but not loud enough to alert them of where I went. They aren’t even focused on Lia right now either which is all part of the plan.

Also he is talking about Lumiel? My father has mentioned this kingdom a few times in the past since he used to get some stuff there.

Lumiel is the one bringing war to Ariel; The tides of war are probably just beginning for the continent. People are probably getting desperate for more and this is the chance to take it.

What does Ariel hold that would be worth taking?

"What does Lumiel want from Ariel?" I ask with a serious tone.

"I-I-I don’t know," He responds.

"Tch. You are useless then," I say while changing the grip on his neck.

CRACK!!!

I break his neck and let his body fall off of the rooftop.

He did give me something to work with at least. Lumiel is the next place I need to go since it’ll have answers to why they attacked Ariel.

That will also depend on getting out of here alive since they did mention that a hunter is needed. My strength still might not be enough against one... But that feeling from before was different.

"Dante!!!" Lia shouts.

Immediately I look towards her to see that she is already done with the soldiers. Only the captain seems to be left alive but he is on the ground with blood spilling out from his gut.

Time to see if he has anything good to say.
