The Last Vampire God
Chapter 27: To The Wall
[Across The Rooftops]
I’ve been slowly making my way towards the wall while trying to avoid any attention from the soldiers below. Most don’t seem to look my way since it is just barely loud enough below with all the marching.
The other problem is what side of the wall could be the exact one they are at since it goes around the whole capital.
I’d assume the one closest which would be the initial entrance wall since that was the one Lia knew already. I don’t think she’d go anywhere else but could they make it to the top of it?
It would be dumb to sit at the bottom... So hopefully that’s exactly where they are.
After jumping across a few more rooftops I finally can see that I’m about to reach the wall, except for one problem... I can see another hunter down by the entrance.
It is the same hunter I saw back then and in the memories of Hans.
He doesn’t see me yet which means I have some time to get over to them but it could be risky to jump. If he looks my way in the slightest it could end badly for all of us.
My whole body is kind of exhausted and the effects of the blood are starting to wear off.
If I had been drinking blood my whole life from the proper sources I’d probably be in better shape. But there’s nothing I can do about it now, I’ll just have to get used to it over time.
Even with all the blood Lia has been giving me lately I haven’t avoided the exhaustion afterwards.
Especially if I drink before a fight... Maybe it is unavoidable or maybe I just am not drinking enough. Just, I can’t drink too much from her or even Amelia since they need it.
Sigh.
Still. I think what they give is enough for the time being since I can fight with mostly full strength against the enemies. Hunters are a different story... Hans was just unlucky for him.
My family’s bloodline came in handy during the fight when I didn’t expect it to help me in the first place.
I leave my thoughts behind for a moment as I hear a soldier running towards Sylas.
"Hans is dead Sir, Huff. Huff. We found him in what remains of the chapel," The soldier says before catching his breath.
Sylas doesn’t look upset by the news in the slightest, actually he looks kind of excited for some reason. He really is a dangerous hunter.
"That means a vampire really is here or at least it was," Sylas responds while looking around.
I quickly back up before he can see me.
"What should we do?" The soldier asks.
"Keep on with the mission of course," Sylas responds without any hesitation.
"Yes Sir," The soldier says before rushing back.
I’m not surprised that they sent more than one hunter... But originally in the memories it was only Hans. Something must’ve happened the moment he left the room since Sylas is here.
Yet, the soldiers also seem to be well aware he was sent. Were some told while others weren’t?
There is a lot of secrets being held within the Lumiel Capital. I’m going to bring them out into the light at some point, even if it is during the fall of their whole damn kingdom.
That time will come, for now I need to continue making my way to the girls.
I peek forward once again and notice that Sylas is no longer down by the entrance; that is my que to get the hell out of here before he notices me.
A few steps back outta be enough to make this jump.
One more quick look at the distance between this rooftop and the wall tells me that I can definitely make the jump. I’ve got enough in me to get up the wall as well.
1, 2, 3. Hyup!!!
As I make the jump across I dig my nails into the wall to keep myself from falling.
Luckily they aren’t that fragile or else I probably would’ve fallen many times before this. They probably could work as a weapon if I’m smart too.
I take quick glance beneath me and notice a few soldiers walking through the alley, none seem to be focused on the wall.
BOOOM!!!!
A distant explosion goes off towards the castle.
I’m going to assume they are entering by force now which means Remi did have everything blocked off. I really hope he got out since these people from Lumiel seem ruthless.
Hopefully the other kingdoms are nothing like Lumiel but there is something to think about.
Would it be better to head for Lumiel first or the artifact that I got information about at the guild? I almost forgot about it with everything that happened.
As I climb up the side of the wall I think about what could be the best option to pursue first since the artifact could be a good boost. Yet, Lumiel is also important to head to for many reasons.
GRAB!!!
My hand gets grabbed as soon as I reach the top and I feel myself get pulled onto the top within a few seconds.
"About time you made it here," Lia says with relief in her voice.
"Were you just watching the wall for me?" I ask with a curious tone.
"I had to since I didn’t know when to expect you," Lia responds with her hands on her hips.
"Well, I’m here and I’m alive. I killed a hunter and the city is full of enemy soldiers," I say while looking back.
"What about my father’s men?!?!" Amelia chimes in with worry in her voice.
"I’m sure some are still fighting but they were caught off guard. I doubt many of them could have survived the initial attack," I respond with a serious tone.
Even if Remi’s army could’ve gotten up in time, they probably wouldn’t have made it through the second wave. Lumiel definitely planned this out for quite some time.
I don’t know what’s special about today but I’m sure someone does.
Immediately my gaze falls back to Amelia, looking away from the city. She must know something about today and why it is special, even if it is just a birthday or some sort of holiday.
Anything would help.
