The Mad King's Heir
Chapter 114: It’s not a fashion show
His heart, which was soft and fluffy, suddenly turned icy. Li Jun had once looked at him like that, and yet, he ruined it. He was consumed by hatred and provoked him every chance he got. He had completely burnt any bridge between them, however shabby it was.
If he were Li Jun, he probably wouldn’t speak to him for the rest of his life. Yu Wen sighed. He was thinking of what it would take to make Li Jun smile at him like that again. Would he ever?
Li Jun might not smile at him like that, but he was definitely following him. He watched as their convoy left the city. He gave them a thirty-minute head start and waited. "You are sure we won’t lose them?" he asked, and Yan Jia, who was checking her weapons, glanced at him and replied,
"We won’t. You should get ready, though."
Li Jun jumped up, saying, "That’s right. Ohhh, what do you think I should wear?"
Yan Jia paused and said, "It’s not a fashion show. We are heading into the desert."
He sneered and said, "You are no fun," before entering the bedroom.
She continued with what she was doing, but when she thought of how indecisive he could be, she got up and followed him. Li Jun was picking clothes while having an audio call. He was talking to Lu Anu. Lu Anu asked, "Ohhh, what’s the occasion?"
Li Jun held out a shirt and said, "I am going to the desert, and I need t-."
Yan Jia hung up the call, and before he could ask her what the hell she was doing, she said, "She is going to tell Yu Wen. Do you want to get caught?" He suddenly realized his mistake. He was so used to talking to Lu Anu that he almost exposed himself.
"I am so stupid. I am just so used to talking to her. How about you help me then?" he said, and Yan Jia sighed. She was starting to think that Li Jun’s intelligence was regressing. When it came to Yu Wen, he seemed to throw his brain away.
"I will help you pick something," she said, and Li Jun smiled happily. He just had to apologize to Lu Anu for hanging up the call. He came up with a network excuse, and She didn’t question it.
Lu Anu, on the other hand, was sitting there smiling as she ate cherries. She didn’t expose his lies. She was thinking that the plan was in full effect. Soon the lovers will be reunited, and they will get their happy ending. She bit her lower lip as she tapped her phone and wrote a message to her son.
BestMom: You better not fuck this up.
Yu Wen, who was in the armored vehicle, felt his phone buzz. He took it out and tapped the message on the screen. When he read the message, he smiled. He replied quickly.
YuWen: I won’t.
As though to reassure her, he typed another message.
YuWen: I promise.
Alex, who was sitting beside him, glanced at him. Everything about Yu Wen’s recent behavior was creeping him out. The man never smiled, but ever since he took some time off, he had been smiling a lot. It was unsettling.
Like right now, he was smiling like a fool. It was unlike him. Not only that, but they found two trackers, one of which was in this car. They were well hidden, so well hidden, in fact, that anyone else wouldn’t have noticed them. But they were incredibly cautious. They found them, but Yu Wen told them to leave them there.
He didn’t explain his reasoning. He even chose to ride in one of the cars. What if it was Helion who planted those trackers on their vehicles? Wasn’t this putting them all at risk? Alex couldn’t fathom what the general was thinking.
Yu Wen looked at the floating screen and said, "Separate the convoy. Team one can go ahead. Team two, you are with me."
Alex turned his head sharply and said, "General, this."
Yu Wen didn’t even look at him. He just replied, "I know what I am doing."
Alex didn’t doubt that. Yu Wen had his reasons and wouldn’t be so careless. The two teams split into two, with Yu Wen’s team heading west. When Li Jun, who was tracking them, saw this, he was a little taken aback.
"They split up," he said. Yan Jia, who was driving, glanced over. They had only managed to put trackers on two vehicles, and now they were headed in different directions.
"Which one should we follow?" she asked. Li Jun bit his lower lip, thinking. He moved the map, trying to see what could possibly be west. There were a couple of mining towns along that route, but shouldn’t they have been evacuated ages ago?
"Go west. We can catch up with the other convoy if he isn’t there," he said, and Yan Jia nodded as she turned the wheel and went off-road. A cloud of dust rose behind them as she stepped down on the accelerator.
Hours later, Yu Wen could see the town from a distance. "Stay sharp," he said through the comms as he grabbed his plasma gun from its holster. The vehicles that had been driving fast slowed down as they approached the town.
They drove along the main street slowly. The sun was already below the horizon, and it was getting dark, but nothing was lit. There were no lights in the town, confirming the reports that evacuation had been completed.
That’s what the reports said, but Yu Wen was sure that something was up. He had checked satellite images of the town at night, and there were plenty of lights that shouldn’t be there. As they drove past the town hall building, a woman stumbled out with her hands raised. She was trembling in fear as she flagged them down.
"Sir, there is a woman standing in the middle of the road. How should we proceed?" asked one of the men leading the convoy.
"Send me the surveillance footage," he said, and it appeared on his floating screen.
