Chapter 116: Travel together

Yan Jia scoffed. No one had dared stand in her way like this unless they had a death wish. Li Jun finally came back to his senses. His lips curled into a mischievous smile and said, "Is this how you treat your saviors?" He turned to walk away while looking Yu Wen up and down as though sizing him up.

Yu Wen reached for him, but he clenched his fist and retracted his hand. He wanted to pull him into his arms and embrace him tightly, but he knew it was too early to expose him. He was afraid that if Li Jun knew he knew who he was, the man would flee on the spot. He would rather see where this would take them.

Li Jun stood next to Yan Jia and said, "If it weren’t for us, you would be in a very terrible situation."

His expression turned back to its usual cold self, and he said, "What would you like as a thank you?"

"Oh, I hadn’t thought that far. How about I think about it, and when we have something we want, we can tell you," Li Jun replied with a smirk on his face. "In the meantime... we can travel together."

Alex was uncomfortable with this. These two just popped up out of nowhere, jumping in to save the day. There must be some conspiracy. It couldn’t be a coincidence. "General this..."

Yu Wen glanced at the woman standing beside Li Jun and said, "I saw you at the cafe... were you following us?"

Yan Jia snorted coldly and said, "How could I be following you when I was in the cafe first? That doesn’t make any sense. How you are a general baffles me? Was it nepotism, perhaps?"

AN: Rapid fire from Yan Jia. Yan Jia 1: General 0

Alex couldn’t contain his rage anymore. He pointed his finger at her and said, "You watch your mouth." This nepotism thing had been following Yu Wen ever since his father died, but everyone in Red Valkyrie knew that Yu Wen had been working his ass off ever since he could walk. Red Valkyrie was his lifeblood, yet some people dared to question him.

Yan Jia was hot, sweaty and fucking tired, so she didn’t hold back. She challenged him, asking, "Or what?"

Alex widened his eyes in disbelief. He was about to fire back when Li Jun stopped him. He said, "You can travel with us, but don’t slow us down. We don’t keep idlers here." After saying that, he walked away, his back straight and his aura domineering."

Li Jun sneered and said, "Who are you calling an idler?" He was really angered by him. He was the one who saved him from his reckless decision of driving all the way here without backup, but the man was calling him an idler. "How unappreciative," he mumbled.

Yu Wen’s steps paused for a split second when he heard him say that. He wanted to say he was appreciative. He was very appreciative that he came looking for him. He just couldn’t be so enthusiastic and risk losing him again.

He had to act like they were strangers. Like they didn’t know each other. He continued walking, and the commander appeared from one of the buildings. They brought out a lot of people in handcuffs.

"We found twenty people in town and scanned all of them. Three are Helion operatives... from the death squad," he said, and Yu Wen looked at all the faces. He knew that the people from the death squad couldn’t be brought back with them even as prisoners of war. It was protocol.

Once, death squad members were brought back to a military base. Despite being searched and scanned, they still managed to blow up the base, killing a thousand soldiers. That tragedy shaped the rest of the war.

"You know what to do," he said, and the commander nodded. He gestured to the others to take the three away. The rest of the people were put in the transport van after scanning their faces. Their identities needed to be verified.

Yu Wen felt a burning gaze burrowing through his skin. He wanted to look back, but he didn’t dare. He issued a few orders, but he was so nervous. Good thing he could mask his emotions, otherwise he would have sold himself out.

Li Jun was watching him, his gaze intense. He didn’t like it. He hated being ignored by Yu Wen. It was so fucking annoying. He looked away, slumping on the hood of the car. Yan Jia turned around and looked at him before whispering, "Your hig-... You have to keep it together. If you keep staring, he is going to get suspicious."

He glanced at her and said, "Says the one who was picking fights."

Yan Jia wanted to retort, but she realized he was right. She also couldn’t contain her anger, especially after seeing his stupid face. Yu Wen infuriated her so much that she just couldn’t help herself.

"Then we both need to rein in our emotions," she said before leaning in and whispering, "We can’t afford to get caught before you get that pendant back."

Yu Wen, who was walking back, suddenly saw them whispering to each other, being all intimate. Without thinking much, he said, "Let’s head out. Zi Rui, you are with me."

Li Jun, "???"

Yan Jia, who had just said that they should rein in their emotions, yelled, "What the fuck for? We have our own car."

Yu Wen turned his gaze towards Li Jun and asked, "Do you have an issue with it?"

Li Jun, who was suddenly put in the spotlight, was stumped. He glanced at Yan Jia, but before he could respond, Yu Wen said, "You can understand why I have to be cautious. You came down here armed and with air support. You can see why I have my reservations, right?"

Both of them knew it made sense, but whenever Yan Jia left these two alone, something big happened. "Side bar," she said and pulled Li Jun away. Yu Wen clenched his jaw and lowered his voice a few degrees, saying,

"Five minutes and we are leaving." His aura was suffocating and oppressive, making Alex tense up. He was wondering why this man, who had been smiling and in a good mood, was now angry and rather terrifying.
