Chapter 86: Chapter 86: The Weight of a Surname

Alexander walked slowly through the crowded opulent lawn completely surrounded by the soft chatter of high-society guests and the clinking of champagne glasses.

His mind was racing thoroughly thrown off balance by the massive revelation that had just landed in his lap.

Back in the training booth he had genuinely believed she was nothing more than a lonely voluptuous older woman struggling with deep-seated self-esteem issues.

Now a cold thought crossed his mind: what if she had been completely faking that entire vulnerable persona just to amuse herself?

He didn’t know the exact details of her background mostly because he never paid attention to social media and completely avoided tracking politics but he knew enough to understand that anyone carrying the Ashford surname was exceptionally serious business.

Aria had arrived with a personal security detail of at least ten professional bodyguards.

Alexander scanned them from a distance noting their rigid postures and sharp eyes but none of them carried the specific operational markings or demeanor of TMC agents.

The realization made him feel strangely out of place.

He gripped the edge of his suit jacket his thoughts turning to the immediate future.

Was their scheduled date for tomorrow at 7:00 PM still officially on the table?

Or would it be a much smarter safer move to abandon the entire idea right now?

His initial raw intention had been to break her down and explicitly add her to his personal roster of submissive playthings but looking at the sheer political power she wielded in the real world he found himself completely undecided.

Alexander continued weaving through the elegant crowd keeping a sharp passive eye on the grand entryway of the estate.

Suddenly he spotted Aria leaning over to whisper a quick directive to her head of security.

The ten bodyguards nodded instantly maintaining their rigid perimeter outside on the terrace while Aria turned and walked entirely alone into the massive mansion.

Since the birthday gala was happening exclusively outdoors on the manicured lawns the interior of the house was completely empty.

His logic told him to let her go to simply stay away from the dangerous web of the Ashford name as Stephen had warned him about high-society conflicts.

But his deep curiosity—and the intense lingering urge to thoroughly dominate her if she truly was a wounded soul—completely overrode his caution.

He smoothly walked back toward Mrs. Gable putting on his most attentive professional expression "I think the champagne is running remarkably low at the main bar" said Alexander "Should I go inside and look for more?"

Mrs. Gable’s face lit up with a delighted smile "Oh my sweet boy you are entirely too sweet" said Mrs. Gable patting his arm affectionately "You are strictly here as our security detail tonight but I deeply appreciate your attentiveness.

The extra crates are sitting right in the main kitchen.

While you’re in there could you kindly tell the waiters to bring out the next warm food platters and explicitly instruct the executive chef to begin putting the final touches on the main courses?"

"Consider it done" stated Alexander.

He turned and walked confidently toward the mansion’s rear entrance.

As he bypassed Aria’s security detail the guards scanned his tailored suit jacket and recognized him as part of the host’s inner staff allowing him to pass through the threshold without uttering a single word.

Alexander stepped inside navigating the quiet opulent corridors until he reached the bustling kitchen.

He quickly and precisely delivered Mrs. Gable’s operational instructions to the waiters and the chef ensuring the catering flow was handled.

Once finished his eyes scanned the immediate area but Aria was nowhere to be found on the ground floor.

He walked deeper into the silent hallways of the residence until he spotted a young catering waitress carrying an empty silver tray "Excuse me" said Alexander stopping her with a polite casual smile "Did you happen to see a woman in a purple gown walking through here by any chance?"

The waitress nodded instantly pointing toward the grand staircase "Yes sir" said the waitress "She explicitly went straight up to the second floor just a moment ago."

Alexander nodded to the waitress his eyes shifting toward the winding marble steps of the grand staircase.

He stood at the base of the stairs for a long moment completely frozen in a rare state of deep indecision.

His logical mind screamed at him to turn back around return to the lawn and focus strictly on his security duties for Mrs. Gable and Serena.

Aria Ashford was a powerhouse a woman surrounded by an army of bodyguards and playing games with someone of her social caliber could easily trigger a massive backlash that a mere TMC trainee couldn’t survive.

Yet the raw intoxicating memory of her crying on her knees inside the cubicle kept flashing in his mind.

He wanted to know the absolute truth because he needed to find out if that shattering vulnerability was a genuine piece of her soul or just a calculated masquerade.

A sharp dangerous smile slowly crept onto his face as he finally made his decision.

He wasn’t going to back down from a challenge like this. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Alexander silently glided up the stairs his footsteps completely muffled by the heavy velvet runner.

The second-floor hallway was sprawling and quiet lit by soft crystal sconces.

He kept a flat profile against the wall until he heard the faint click of a door opening.

Aria stepped out of the lavish guest bathroom down the hall adjusting the silk fabric of her purple gown.

She didn’t look around assuming she was entirely alone in the residential wing.

Instead of heading back toward the stairs she turned a corner and quickly slipped inside a separate dimly lit private study closing the heavy oak door firmly behind her.

Alexander watched her entry point with precision.

He took a slow deep breath adjusting his suit jacket to ensure his concealed firearm was secure and walked down the corridor toward the study.

As he reached the entrance he halted his hand hovering just an inch away from the polished wood paneling.

He could feel his heart accelerating rapidly in his chest pounding against his ribs with a fierce electrifying rush of raw excitement as he hadn’t felt an adrenaline spike like this in a very long time.

Knock.

Knock.

Alexander rapped his knuckles gently against the solid wood his eyes dark and completely focused as he waited for the voice inside to answer.
