At the computer, Doudou nervously gripped Qin Xiaoxia’s arm.

The monster’s roars from the video grated on the Mischievous Elf’s every nerve.

"OH, OH, OH! Oh my god, it’s out, it’s out! This is the end! Why would you humans invent something like this to eat yourselves? Are you all insane?"

Qin Xiaoxia glanced helplessly at the movie title: *Jurassic World*.

"Doudou, it’s just a movie. If humans actually had the ability, they wouldn’t create these things... Okay, on second thought, maybe we can’t be sure they wouldn’t..."

"OH, OH, OH!! They’re actually using such a ridiculous method to fight the monster! This monster is so smart, just like the real scary ones!"

"It’s called a dinosaur, Doudou."

"OH, OH, OH! They’re dead, they’re dead, I knew it! What are they just standing there gawking for? Send in the tanks! Your human tanks!!"

Qin Xiaoxia tried to get away from the computer again, but the nervous and frightened Doudou held him in a death grip.

He could only sigh and say to him,

"Doudou, this is an amusement park. Who would put tanks inside..."

"What kind of lame, backward park doesn’t even have tanks?!"

Qin Xiaoxia: ...

The feeling of human powerlessness against the monsters in the movie was, of course, manufactured by the director. Real-world human weaponry wasn’t nearly that weak.

But a thought also crossed Qin Xiaoxia’s mind.

’If these were replaced with monsters from a fantasy world, could humanity’s current technological advantage still hold up? And for how long?’

Ever since the "feedback" a few days ago, Qin Xiaoxia’s body had been recovering at an astonishing speed. By today, he didn’t look at all like someone who had just gotten out of the hospital.

Furthermore, he could often perceive strange pieces of information, seemingly generated by the interaction between the special nature of his Magic Power and the environment.

This information felt like it came from his surroundings, but also from some other plane of existence.

"KNOCK KNOCK~"

Just then, Huang Jiutian knocked on the room’s door.

"Hey, you two, are you still going to the amusement park today?"

"Going!"

"Going!"

Doudou and Qin Xiaoxia answered in unison.

"Alright, I’ve already called a car. I’ll drop you off on my way."

"Huh?! You’re not coming to the amusement park with us? I thought you took annual leave? You should still have two days left, right?"

Qin Xiaoxia could tell from Huang Jiutian’s tone that he was probably about to leave.

"Can’t be helped. The company suddenly received an important request for proposal, and the deadline is extremely tight."

"You know how it is. Project transparency is getting higher and higher these days, so high-profit government contracts like this are getting rare. I have to go back."

As an elite member of the technical department, Huang Jiutian had already received two urgent calls from his boss. Besides, Qin Xiaoxia was already back to his energetic self, so Jiutian decided it was time to head back to Qiantang.

Hearing that Nanny Huang was leaving, Doudou was even more upset about it than Qin Xiaoxia was.

During Huang Jiutian’s stay, they had been waited on hand and foot. Not only did he take over Doudou’s daily chore of cleaning the house, but he had even bought him several new sets of children’s clothes.

But Huang Jiutian wasn’t some "unemployed bum," after all. When work called, there was nothing to be done about it.

So, by the time they arrived at Qiantang’s newly built amusement park at 9:30, only the "two" of them, Doudou and Qin Xiaoxia, were left.

Huang Jiutian had originally suggested they invite Gou Junbao, but the idea was unanimously shot down by the pair. Who knows how Brother Gou had managed to offend them.

In any case, Huang Jiutian didn’t buy Doudou’s supposed declaration that "people in relationships must die!" After all, how old was he?

It was worth mentioning that after countless failures, Gou Junbao was now, at long last, a man with a girlfriend—the very same girl from his last blind date.

Doudou had been dreaming of going to an amusement park ever since he’d seen one in a video.

Qin Xiaoxia on his own would have found it too much of a hassle to bring him. It was only by taking advantage of Huang Jiutian’s visit that Doudou, through relentless pestering, finally managed to get his way.

As for Qin Xiaoxia, he was actually pretty excited himself.

He might have considered it a hassle to come on his own, but in truth, he had never been to an amusement park in his life. Just because he never thought about going didn’t mean he wasn’t eager to try out all the cool rides.

The line for the roller coaster was, as always, the longest. But after waiting for over half an hour to finally get on, the ride left them both sorely disappointed.

"So, Doudou, what did you think?"

Qin Xiaoxia asked, having just gotten off the roller coaster, to a completely expressionless Doudou.

"It was just okay..."

Everyone else on the ride had been screaming their heads off, but the two of them hadn’t made a peep.

"Yeah... It was nothing compared to the effect of that wish you made..."

For the park’s most thrilling, signature attraction, it had given them a rather lackluster experience.

They instantly lost all interest in trying other rides like the pirate ship or the giant swing.

"Ooh! There’s a House of Destiny next to the haunted house!"

"What’s that?"

"It’s where they tell your fortune."

"Fortune-telling!"

Doudou lit up at the words. This was another thing he had been dying to experience.

Before Qin Xiaoxia could even react, Doudou was already trotting toward the large, tent-like structure and ducked inside.

Qin Xiaoxia hurried after him.

The building had a sign hanging on it that read, "Opens at 1 PM."

"Doudou~! Come on out, they’re not open yet!"

Even as he shouted, he glanced around. There didn’t seem to be anyone watching the entrance, and the other bustling park-goers weren’t paying it any mind.

So, without a moment’s hesitation, Qin Xiaoxia went in himself.

The atmosphere inside was well-crafted.

The style was dim, filled with all sorts of props—most notably the rows of crystal balls on the front table and the shelves flanking it.

Doudou was staring at one in the middle with a look of pure curiosity, peering at it from every angle.

He was having a grand time making funny faces at his reflection in the Crystal Ball.

"Hey, this place looks pretty neat. Too bad the fortune-teller’s out, or I’d have them check my birth chart and tell my fortune for the year."

Qin Xiaoxia tugged on a string of Garlic, tapped a wind chime, and took a moment to inspect a Crystal Ball to see if it was just glass. It never occurred to him that there might be something off about asking a Western-style Spirit Medium to read his Chinese horoscope.

"Hey, Cousin! I want to buy this! A Crystal Ball!"

"Put that down. That’s how they make a living; they’re not going to sell..."

He hadn’t even finished his sentence before he was forced to eat his words, spotting a price tag on a Crystal Ball on the shelf.

"Fifty-nine yuan apiece... So they really are just glass..."

"Cousin, I want to buy it!"

Doudou clutched a Crystal Ball and refused to let go.

"No way! That thing’s useless, not to mention heavy as a rock. What are you gonna do with it, throw it at people? You don’t even have your future rent sorted out and you’re already trying to spend my money?"

...

Su Su had just bought a boxed lunch and was heading to her work area to eat.

Dressed in a gray-black Witch Robe, her wavy, pale-gold hair cascaded over the dark fabric. This, combined with the delicate features often found in those of mixed heritage, gave Su Su a beautiful and mysterious air.

This was an age where looks mattered, and her appearance and disposition had certainly been a great help in landing the job.

She had watched her maternal grandmother do this work since she was a little girl, but today was her very first day on the job, and she couldn’t help but feel a little nervous.

Lifting the flap of the back entrance to the tent, Su Su discovered two figures, one large and one small, wandering around inside while bickering.

They were clearly tourists who had wandered in by mistake. ’But weren’t the tent flaps supposed to be secured?’

"Ahem. Excuse me, this area isn’t open yet. Visitors aren’t allowed inside. You can come back after one o’clock."

Caught red-handed by a staff member—and a pretty girl at that—Qin Xiaoxia felt a little awkward.

"Uh, the kid ran in on his own. I was just coming to get him. We’ll be on our way right now."

"A w-witch~~~!"

Doudou shrieked with excitement and, in a single bound, leaped from the front of the table to land right in front of Su Su.

Startled by the child who had suddenly appeared before her, Su Su stumbled back a few steps, and the boxed lunch in her hands scattered across the floor.

She glanced from the table to where the boy now stood. That was at least two or three meters.

’Could a child that age really make that jump? (Doudou looked four years old at most.)’

But in the next instant, her heart ached for a different reason.

’My lunch... my lunch... My braised chicken drumstick...’

Gritting her teeth and taking a sharp breath, she struggled to maintain her professional amusement park employee persona.

"Please... get... out. Immediately! Right now!"
