The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend
Chapter 776 - The Mirage Bar
Commerce brought Han Wu aboard a ship and set off for the most renowned establishment in the Divine Civilization, the Mirage Bar, where many powerful figures in the Divine Civilization went to drink.
Unfortunately, this meant that the prices were also outrageously high. Two World life forms even manned the entrance as bouncers, checking the identity and assets of every person who wished to enter, and keeping out anyone who couldn't afford to be there.
Commerce and Han Wu arrived at the door.
“Before we enter, your total assets are worth at least ten thousand Divine Essence at this point, right?” Commerce asked as they approached.
Han Wu pulled up his account, glanced at the seven-figure balance, and nodded.
Commerce let out a long sigh, both envious and impressed. Back when he was in school, earning a thousand Divine Essence would have made him delirious with joy, never mind ten thousand.
“Then we're set,” Commerce said, putting aside his reminiscing as he brought Han Wu to the door.
The two World life forms stepped in front of them. “Esteemed guests, please allow us to verify your identities before you enter.”
“Go ahead,” Commerce said confidently. “I'm a God King with the Commerce Jurisdiction. I've been here plenty of times.”
Han Wu followed his lead and stepped up to the scanner. As it swept over his face, a few lines of information appeared on the display.
Han Wu. Outstanding student of Imperial College. Top candidate for third-year valedictorian. Owner of the Blood Coliseum. Owner of various enterprises in foreign civilizations. Assets exceeding one million Divine Essence.
After reading the display, the bouncers immediately adopted a respectful stance toward Han Wu.
“Mr. Han Wu, welcome to the Mirage Bar. Your presence is an honour,” one of the bouncers said, moving to open the door.
“Thank you.” Han Wu was about to go in when he realized Commerce had been blocked at the door.
The scanner display in front of Commerce read that his assets were in the negatives, making him ineligible for entry.
“I have a shipment being held in a foreign civilization. The moment I get that shipment back, I can turn it around for a million Divine Essence profit!” the Commerce God King explained.
The two bouncers were unconvinced. “In that case, please come back once you have retrieved the shipment, Mr. Li Xiulian.”
“I'm warning you, don't call me by my full name, or don't blame me for what happens next,” Commerce growled.
The name Li Xiulian had always seemed too embarrassing to use with his business partners. Regrettably, his Divine Jurisdiction was bound to his name, so changing it would be an enormous headache. Still, he avoided it wherever he could.
The two World life forms did not respond, simply blocking his entry like brick walls. Commerce's white mane stood on end.
“What will it take for me to bring him in with me?” Han Wu asked.
The two bouncers glanced at each other before replying, “Mr. Li Xiulian has three previous visits to the Mirage Bar on record, which confirms he once qualified for entry. If Mr. Han Wu is willing to vouch for him, we can allow Mr. Li Xiulian through.”
“I said don't say my full name!” Commerce scowled.
Unfortunately, with his strength, he was only roughly equivalent to a World life form while not using his Divine Talent. There was no way he could win against the two World life form bouncers.
“I'll vouch for him,” Han Wu said quickly, hoping to end the exchange before Commerce snapped.
The bouncers nodded with a smile and turned to Commerce. “Mr. Xiulian, welcome to the Mirage Bar.”
Commerce looked as though he was about to pop a vein. It wasn't his surname, Li, that bothered him, but the graceful name after it. He couldn’t help but suspect the two bouncers were mocking him.
After that ordeal, the two of them made it inside. A server immediately appeared with two glasses of rich, fragrant wine. Han Wu accepted the glass, but the server did not leave. Instead, he stood respectfully to one side and watched them.
Han Wu studied the server for a moment. The server was at least an Earthsunder life form. Working as a server here with that kind of power seemed like a waste.
Commerce whispered, “Tip him. At least two hundred Divine Essence.“
Han Wu's jaw almost dropped. Two hundred Divine Essence as a tip? That was daylight robbery. Did they think he was rich?
“It's the house minimum,” Commerce explained.
Han Wu frowned. They hadn't even done anything yet, and he already had to fork out two hundred Divine Essence for two mere glasses of wine. The Mirage Bar was a den of thieves!
Nevertheless, they were already here, and they had a goal in mind. Rules had to be followed. Han Wu reluctantly paid the two hundred Divine Essence, and the server happily wandered off.
“If those two hundred Divine Essence turn out to be a waste, I’m afraid it's going to affect your height,” Han Wu hissed quietly to Commerce.
Commerce was baffled. “What does that have to do with my height?”
“Because I'll break your legs,” Han Wu said, only half joking.
“You're threatening me now? Keep in mind I'm here doing you a favour.” Commerce huffed, bravado unconvincing due to the wine glass trembling in his hand.
The bar was lively and packed. There were dozens of World life forms in the crowd alone. Han Wu was taken aback. He had not known the Divine Civilization had this many World life forms?
“Eye-opening, isn't it? Don't think being the biggest fish in the Imperial College means you’re all that. The Divine Civilization is bigger than you think,” Commerce muttered.
He then directed Han Wu to a corner where a middle-aged man in casual streetwear was moving to music with carefree abandon. Some of the passing patrons greeted him warmly, and he returned every greeting with equal enthusiasm.
Commerce brought Han Wu over. “Boss Wang, long time no see. I've missed you.”
The man turned and looked at Han Wu.
“Boss Wang, let me introduce you,” Commerce hastily said. “This is Han Wu, a well-known prodigy at the Imperial College. If everything goes as planned, he’ll be the best student the Imperial College has produced in the last hundred years.”
Then, turning to Han Wu, Commerce added, “This is the owner of the Mirage Bar, the Banquet God King, Wang Fugui. He prefers to be called Boss Wang.”
“Boss Wang,” Han Wu greeted.
Wang Fugui eyed Han Wu. “Owner of the Blood Coliseum. Welcome to the Mirage Bar.”
