“Tell me who that kid is. I’ll kick his butt!” Jia Gui snapped.

Wei En saw her plan working and felt a surge of satisfaction, but she kept up the act. Her eyes drooped, and her tears fell on cue. She sobbed softly, “Hero Jia, you really mean it? You’ll really help me?”

Jia Gui clasped her hand firmly and patted it. “Of course! You called me a hero, so I have to act like one.”

Wei En put on a concerned expression. “But he has a very powerful background. I’m worried about getting you involved.”

Jia Gui puffed out his thin chest and smacked it. “His background can’t be stronger than mine. You know the Commerce God King? The white-haired one who looks refined but a bit sketchy? Li Xiulian. He’s my brother.

“Wisdom God King Xu Hai is my friend. We competed together against the Divine River Civilization. The God King of Death, ever heard of him? The number one powerhouse in the Divine Civilization? When the Divine Civilization went to war against the Heaven Stair Civilization, he and I shared a drink and talked all night.” 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

As Jia Gui named one prominent figure after another in the Divine Civilization, Wei En grew genuinely confident that he could help her.

She claimed, “The person who wronged me is called Han Wu—”

Jia Gui immediately stopped her. “Wait, could you repeat that? I didn’t quite catch that.”

“I said that the person who wronged me is called Han Wu,” Wei En repeated.

Jia Gui stuck a finger in his ear. “I meant the line before that.”

She frowned, confused. “He has a very powerful background...”

“The line before that,” Jia Gui said again.

“You really mean it? You’ll really help me?” Wei En asked, puzzled.

“That’s the one.” Jia Gui nodded, then met her eyes, and said, “No. Pretend I was never here. Goodbye.”

Jia Gui turned to leave. Wei En couldn’t let her target slip away now and grabbed him quickly. “Hero Jia, what’s the meaning of this? You said you know so many powerful people. You’re afraid of a second-year student? You shared a drink with the God King of Death!”

“I was detained by the Divine Civilization as a suspected spy, and the God King of Death personally questioned me. He did have a drink, and we did have a perfectly good conversation. That part is true,” Jia Gui replied. “But my connections are nowhere near as strong as Han Wu’s. He’s the Holy Son of Death. He’s no different than the biological son of the God King of Death. How am I supposed to help you?”

Wei En pressed, “But you and Wisdom God King Teacher Xu Hai are friends. You competed together and fought side by side against the Divine River Civilization!”

“My connections still don’t compare to Han Wu’s,” he retorted. “He’s Xu Hai’s student, which makes him almost like a son to Xu Hai. How am I supposed to help you?”

Wei En tried again. “What about the Commerce God King then? Han Wu can’t be his son as well.”

Jia Gui nodded seriously. “He isn’t. Their relationship is complicated. You might not follow it even if I explained it. But in certain respects, Han Wu is Li Xiulian’s father instead.”

Wei En refused to let go and held him in place. Jia Gui stopped struggling, sat down, and tried to reason with her. “You should look at it from a different angle. You say Han Wu took advantage of you. That means he must like you. Otherwise, why would he single you out instead of someone else?”

Wei En stared at him blankly. His words felt vaguely familiar, like something she had once heard from an admirer, but she couldn’t place it.

Jia Gui thought she needed more convincing. “There’s an old saying. It’s better to tear apart ten civilizations than to destroy one marriage. Since the two of you have already done the deed, you may as well just accept it.

“Though I hear he already has a girlfriend, and there’s apparently a female undead companion following him around as well. If you throw yourself in now, you’d be taking the position of second mistress, I think? But given the circumstances, I suppose that’s fate, and fate is the best matchmaker of all.

“Honestly, with that figure and that face of yours, being Han Wu’s second mistress is perfectly reasonable. Don’t you think so?”

Jia Gui spoke with absolute seriousness, barely masking the lecherous look on his face.

Wei En listened in stunned silence. What is this? What is any of this? This is barely better than selling a decent woman to a brothel! Why should I become Han Wu’s second mistress?!

Just as she was about to object, a new plan formed. She could play along with Jia Gui’s suggestion. She would agree for now and use it as an excuse to get close to Han Wu. All she needed was ten seconds.

With her decision made, Wei En forced an embarrassed expression and managed to bring a faint flush to her cheeks. “I will heed your advice, Hero Jia.”

Jia Gui was delighted. This patrol wasn’t wasted after all. I’ve found Han Wu a little admirer. Well, not so little, more like an old one. If I bring her back, Han Wu will surely be grateful.

“Brother, this is as far as I can do for you.” Jia Gui let out a long sigh, then led Wei En back to the Wisdom Faction’s command area.

Ordinary faction members like Wei En weren’t allowed to enter, but with Jia Gui leading the way, the guards let them pass. Inside, tents had been set up for the core members to rest. Those weren’t ordinary tents, but high-end products developed by the Epistians that incorporated healing, recovery, and cultivation functions. Resting inside them was a luxury.

Jia Gui brought Wei En to Han Wu’s tent and told her to wait inside. Worried about being seen by others nearby, Wei En entered the tent to wait for him to return.

Jia Gui left cheerfully to find Han Wu. He eventually located him in the command room, catching him just as the meeting ended and he was heading back to rest.

Jia Gui patted his shoulder and gave him a knowing look that only men would understand. “Young man, you’re too careless. Next time, you should tie up your loose ends. Don’t worry, I’ve taken care of it for you, including the person herself. I’ve sent her to your tent. No need to thank me. Just remember the kindness I’ve shown you.”

Jia Gui walked off, humming with satisfaction.

Han Wu didn’t understand what he meant, nor did he have the energy to think it through. Since it was Jia Gui, it was likely nothing important.

Han Wu dragged himself back to his tent and found Wei En lying naked on his bed.

He instinctively turned to leave, but she shouted, “If you run, I will scream. Who would believe you then?”

Han Wu stopped and turned back. “Senior Wei En, what are you planning to do?”

Wei En smiled and shifted to present her good side.

Han Wu turned away to avoid looking at her.

Wei En seized the moment to unseal the Magic Sealing Wave. She was close enough, and as long as Han Wu didn’t leave the tent for ten seconds, she would complete the Butcher’s mission.

“Come now, Junior Han Wu, don’t you want to discuss life with me?” she asked bewitchingly, though her eyes were filled with hatred as she looked at him.
