The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend
Chapter 845 - The Valedictorian Speeches
The top 64 advancement matches were scheduled for ten days later. Han Wu had no idea why the War Faction had arranged a ten-day rest period, but he didn’t ask either.
Back at Imperial College, Han Wu continued mulling over the allocation of his surplus resources. Holding the Slaughter Jurisdiction in his hand, he contemplated which ability to load it onto.
Once loaded onto an ability, the Slaughter Jurisdiction would inevitably cause that ability to undergo a fundamental change in nature.
Han Wu had a wide variety of abilities: Sacrifice (Exclusive), Life Infusion, Merge (Exclusive), Famine, 567 Martial Caste, Demon King Transformation, Reincarnation, Replicate (Exclusive), Energy Materialization, Undying, Avatar Creation (Exclusive), Omniversal, Divine Weapon Atlas, and more.
This meant he could easily host multiple backup Divine Jurisdictions. The question, however, was which ability to load the Slaughter Jurisdiction onto. Han Wu consulted V and had him run calculations to predict the possible outcomes.
V processed both Han Wu’s data and the Slaughter Jurisdiction’s data before finally producing a table listing the predicted outcomes. Based on this, Han Wu narrowed it down to two abilities: Sacrifice and Reincarnation.
The Slaughter Jurisdiction would only produce positive transformations when loaded onto these two.
There was a 97% chance of it fundamentally altering Sacrifice, with the likely effect of Sacrifice being triggered every time a living being was killed using Slaughter. The items produced from this would be equivalent to the victim’s life force.
Reincarnation, on the other hand, saw a 99% chance of alteration. Its likely effect was pulling the souls of living beings killed using Slaughter into Han Wu’s still-incomplete Soul Microcosm, the Underworld. It would then be his choice to turn the souls into energy or reincarnate them into his other Microcosms.
Both options were excellent, and Han Wu liked them equally. Unfortunately, he could only choose one.
After some thought, Han Wu chose to load it onto Sacrifice. Receiving a reward every time he used Slaughter to kill a living being was nothing to scoff at. The payoff against powerful life forms with abundant life force would be enormous.
Reincarnation’s effect of pulling in souls carried a risk, as there was no guarantee they would willingly submit once they entered the Underworld. If they caused any damage while resisting, Han Wu would need to spend Divine Essence to fix it.
Thus, Han Wu chose Sacrifice, which guaranteed a profit with no downsides.
Following Xu Hai’s previous teachings, Han Wu spent six months in his divine realm loading the Slaughter onto Sacrifice. The outcome matched V’s prediction exactly. Sacrifice underwent a fundamental transformation with the resulting effect precisely as predicted.
Through the process, Han Wu also gained a deeper understanding of Slaughter. As the merged ability was new, he would need to develop it from scratch. The only way to develop it was through killing.
Han Wu could use Slaughter to send his units into a frenzy. Any living being that his units killed while in that state would go toward unlocking the Slaughter Jurisdiction.
At 100% development, Han Wu could activate Slaughter’s effect, the Slaughter Barrier. When deployed, all the beings he had ever slaughtered would become his soldiers, fighting endlessly on his behalf. Unlocking further effects beyond that required him to ascend as the Slaughter God King.
Han Wu had no plans to become the Slaughter God King just yet. For now, he merely wanted to develop Slaughter and boost his strength. The timing was not right anyway, though the advancement matches in nine days could give him an opportunity.
As Han Wu was about to rest, Xu Hai sent a message reminding him to attend Imperial College’s freshmen welcome ceremony at two in the afternoon. As the third-year valedictorian, Han Wu was required to give a speech.
Han Wu checked the time. It was already 1:59.
Scrambling out of his divine realm, he raced to the designated location at breakneck speed and arrived just in time for the segment where successive valedictorians took the stage.
Xia Tian, the fourth-year valedictorian, glanced at Han Wu’s frantic appearance and teased, “You really cut it close, Junior. What’s kept you so busy?”
Han Wu laughed it off. “Nothing much. Just entered the Grand War Games and developed the Slaughter Jurisdiction a little.”
Feng Fanchen, the second-year valedictorian, felt an enormous weight on his shoulders when he overheard this.
Feng Fanchen was the grandson of Feng Shiren. The latter had recently earned commendations from the college for helping to defend against the Thirteen Guards, with Feng Fanchen also benefiting as a result.
Backed by a flood of resources, he had successfully broken through to the Demigod level. His grandfather had also prepared some suitable Divine Aspects for him. As long as he progressed steadily and awakened his Divine Skills, he would ascend into a God during his second year.
Despite this remarkable pace, he was still far behind Han Wu. This frustration was hard for Feng Fanchen to stomach. He believed himself talented, and his family was far stronger than Han Wu’s, yet he simply could not catch up. It was infuriating.
Han Wu noticed the junior behind him and asked, “What’s your name, Junior?”
His frequent and prolonged absences from classes meant Han Wu probably could not even recognize all his classmates in the same year, let alone the juniors. Fortunately, all his classmates recognized him.
“Good to meet you, Senior Han Wu. My name is Feng Fanchen,” Feng Fanchen greeted respectfully. “I’m Feng Shiren’s grandson.”
“Oh, Feng’s grandson. Not bad. I’m pretty close with your grandfather,” Han Wu said casually.
Feng Fanchen was speechless. He could not shake the feeling that Han Wu was messing with him, but he had no proof.
When it came time for the speeches, Xia Tian’s refined and elegant demeanor earned enthusiastic cheers from the younger students, while Feng Fanchen’s noble and composed manner made many of the junior girls swoon.
Han Wu, on the other hand, simply got on stage, said a few polite lines, and walked off. It looked like he couldn’t care less, which irritated some of the freshmen.
“What’s so special about this third-year valedictorian? It’s just a title.”
“He can’t even be bothered to give a proper speech. Who does he think he is?”
“This kind of person deserves to be a valedictorian?”
A second-year student standing beside the freshmen broke into a cold sweat.
“You guys need to stop talking about Senior Han Wu like that. Trust me, it won’t end well for you.”
“My great-grandfather is a dean of this college. Why should I be scared of some valedictorian?” one freshman asked arrogantly, clearly ignorant about recent news.
The second-year hastily covered the freshman’s mouth. “Don’t say another word. Let me put it this way. Senior Han Wu could be the third-year valedictorian, the fourth-year valedictorian, or even the valedictorian of the entire college if he wanted to.
“Push him far enough, and he’ll make sure no other year has a valedictorian. Your great-grandfather is a dean, so you can walk around Imperial College like you own the place. But if you cross Senior Han Wu, he could make it so your great-grandfather is no longer a dean.”
“Is he the chancellor’s secret love child or something? Is he that powerful?” the freshman asked, stunned.
“It would almost be better if he were, but no, he has zero family connections to anyone in the college’s leadership.” The second-year’s eyes gleamed. “Do you know about the recent war between the Slaughter God King and the Wisdom God King?”
The freshman nodded. “Of course. Wisdom God King Xu Hai turned the tide and defeated the Slaughter God King.”
“Well, here’s some insider information. Senior Han Wu was the one to kill the Slaughter God King!”
The freshman’s jaw dropped. “Holy crap!”
After a long pause, the freshman took back his earlier criticisms. “What did Senior Han Wu say in his speech again? Absolutely brilliant. Best speech I’ve ever heard!”
