Chapter 878 - Your Last Words Are Too Long!

Jia Gui raced across rooftops with Han Wu on his back, cutting across the city lord’s estate like a ghost.

The estate was bigger than Han Feng’s, and Jia Gui stumbled around blindly until Han Wu could catch a servant and interrogate them on the city lord’s location.

They found the city lord practicing in a courtyard. Ten large water urns were arranged around him. With each palm strike, an invisible force drew water out of the urns and gathered it into a massive sphere above his hands. The sphere morphed with every movement. Han Wu could make out a dragon-shaped current weaving across its surface.

Jia Gui was so nervous he barely dared breathe, but the city lord’s sharp senses quickly detected something amiss.

“Who’s there? Show yourself!” the city lord called out.

Han Wu knew there was no point hiding any longer, so he dropped from the rooftop into the courtyard. The city lord’s shout drew a wave of guards in, spears leveled.

Keeping his composure, Han Wu activated Shadow Xun. Xun’s form rose from his shadow behind him. After cultivating the Dark Moon Sutra, Xun had absorbed enough energy from the moonlight to temporarily separate from Han Wu’s shadow and fight independently.

The guards froze at the eerie sight. The city lord, however, recognized Han Wu.

“I know you. You injured my brother-in-law!” he accused.

Han Wu didn’t deny it. “I’ll kill you too while I’m at it.”

The city lord laughed. His brother-in-law was a weakling. Beating him didn’t mean anything.

“You’re confident. Fine, I’ll give you a chance,” the city lord graciously conceded.

In truth, he was just in the middle of a training session and wanted to test his skills in real combat. The water sphere hovering above his palms rapidly reshaped into a water dragon.

“Survive one strike of my Water Dragon Palm, and I’ll let you go.”

Han Wu scoffed. A water dragon was nothing to worry about.

They both moved at the same time. The city lord sent his water dragon spiraling toward Han Wu, but right before impact, Han Wu plunged into Shadow Xun’s Shadow Space and vanished. Meanwhile, Xun drew the spear stolen from the shop owner and engaged the water dragon directly.

Sharp cracks echoed with every thrust against the water dragon as Xun used the Tyrant Spear Formula in tandem with the Willow Spear Technique. Water splashed everywhere, and the dragon’s momentum dropped with each hit.

The city lord gritted his teeth and pushed harder, attempting to leverage control of his water dragon against Xun’s spear. At that moment, Han Wu burst out of the shadow, a golden and a silver axe flying from each hand.

The twin axes gleamed as they slammed into the city lord. His soft armor absorbed most of the damage, leaving only minor cuts, but the humiliation of the blow was scarring.

Forgetting his earlier promise, the city lord roared at his guards, “Are you blind? Seize him! Execute him on the spot!”

The guards snapped to attention and circled Han Wu, spears in formation. Han Wu pulled the axes back and hurled them out again on a curve. They carved through the guards effortlessly. After several repeats of this attack, every guard was dead. They hadn’t even gotten anywhere close to Han Wu.

At the same time, Xun destroyed the water dragon with a final barrage of spear strikes before turning his attention to the city lord. A foreboding chill ran down the city lord’s spine when he realized that Han Wu and Xun had cornered him.

“Guards! Protect me!” he screamed desperately.

Han Wu and Xun quickly closed the distance to the city lord’s side. The spear and twin axes pressed against his neck simultaneously.

The city lord couldn’t help but regret issuing those wanted notices. No, going further back, he never should’ve let his brother-in-law run that scam shop—or perhaps he shouldn’t have married his wife in the first place.

Pressing the cold edges of the axe blades against the city lord’s neck, Han Wu offered a courtesy, “You gave me a chance to fight you, so I’ll give you a chance to say your last words.”

“Spare me!” the city lord begged. “I’ll never come after you again! If you let me go, I’ll cancel the bounty and pay you any amount of gold you want. I swear!”

Han Wu flashed a small smile, then took the city lord’s head clean off with a slash of the twin axes. “Your last words are too long to remember.”

Both servants and guards arrived just in time to see their lord’s head roll. The sight of the bodies littering the courtyard had them frozen in shock.

“What? You want to die too?” Han Wu asked coldly.

The servants and guards immediately backed out of the courtyard and fled, all pretending not to have seen a thing.

Satisfied, Han Wu whistled for Jia Gui. No one appeared.

“Where the hell did he go? Did the guards get him?” Han Wu muttered to himself.

He dismissed the idea almost immediately. Jia Gui was terrible in a fight, but he was fast. He’d have to run face-first into a spear to actually be killed.

Just then, Jia Gui’s head popped out of a window behind Han Wu. “Han Wu! Get over here! I found something good!”

Han Wu understood at once. The man had gone looting. Deciding to combine righteous anger with a thorough inspection, he followed Jia Gui into the room and saw an enormous jade bed. Even from a distance, Han Wu could feel the pure energy it radiated. Training internal techniques on that bed would massively boost cultivation speed.

Jia Gui eagerly stared at Han Wu, clearly waiting to be praised. Han Wu could only compliment him with a sigh.

Pleased, Jia Gui started ransacking the rest of the room. Whether by talent or dumb luck, he bumped a vase that turned out to be a hidden switch. A bookshelf slid open to reveal a passage leading underground.

Han Wu and Jia Gui exchanged excited looks. They could practically smell the treasure awaiting them down there.
