Early that morning, Yun Jiao had just sat down at Renxin Hall, her tools not yet unpacked, when Mrs. Chen arrived with Xiao Wan.

She couldn’t hide her urgency, "Jiao Jiao, please take Xiao Wan’s pulse and have a look."

Yun Jiao had Xiao Wan sit properly, took out the pulse cushion, and smiled, "Well, is it that your period didn’t come this month?"

Xiao Wan shyly nodded, "My period is almost ten days late this month. I, I was a bit worried, so I told Mother."

Xiao Wan earnestly said, "When you came to our house before, I didn’t know you were Doctor Gu."

"My father was seriously ill, but after taking the medicine you prescribed, he is now well. I just wanted to thank you."

Yun Jiao smiled, "That’s good."

Mrs. Chen cheerfully said, "Oh dear, I need to get a carriage to go home."

Hui Niang took Yun Jiao’s list, "Mother, I’ll have Zhu Er’s mother go buy groceries now. Only if Xiao Wan eats well, can the baby in her belly grow well." Saying this, she bustled off towards the front courtyard.

Mrs. Chen was immensely comforted; though this daughter-in-law couldn’t bear children, she was virtuous.

She used to worry that taking a concubine might cause disharmony between wives, but seeing now, Xiao Wan is honest, and Hui Niang is virtuous, things couldn’t be better.
