Yiyi sat quietly, listening intently to the sounds around her. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

But after a while, she couldn’t hear anything. Although she trusted Gu Tingyu’s skills, she couldn’t help but worry, especially since she didn’t know how many people were lurking in this old house. They absolutely couldn’t be discovered.

Just as Yiyi was patiently waiting, Gu Tingyu finally returned.

"Brother..."

Yiyi called out softly, not daring to speak loudly.

Gu Tingyu was a little surprised to see Yiyi still awake, and then walked over to her and asked softly, "Why haven’t you slept yet?"

"Waiting for you."

After feeling relieved, Yiyi pulled Gu Tingyu and asked, "What’s the situation?"

"There are two other rooms in this old house. They are both occupied by those criminals, but one of the rooms is heavily guarded. I haven’t been able to get inside yet, but I am sure the hostage is in that room."

"Which room?"

Gu Tingyu suddenly stopped talking and simply pointed eastward.

Seeing Gu Tingyu like this, Yiyi also stopped asking questions, slowed her breathing, and slowly lay down on the bed.

Gu Tingyu, feeling his way in the dark, lay on his own bed quietly, keeping his breathing shallow to give the impression that he was deeply asleep.

Yiyi also performed flawlessly, her steady breathing making it seem as if she was sound asleep.

Yiyi didn’t know how many people were outside the door or how long they had been observing them, but before she knew it, she really fell asleep.

By the time she woke up the next day, it was broad daylight. Yiyi opened her eyes and saw Gu Tingyu standing by her bed.

"Sister, you’re awake."

Hearing these words, Yiyi’s originally bleary mind instantly became clear. She sat up at once and sweetly called out, "Brother."

Seeing the young girl’s fair face glistening in the sunlight, Gu Tingyu couldn’t help but think how pretty his sister had become. He remembered the first time he saw her; she was a skinny, dark little girl. He hadn’t expected that she would change so much in such a short time, becoming such a beautiful person.

"Dezi, Wan’er, it’s time for breakfast."

Aunt Qin’s voice came from outside. Yiyi quickly responded, "Aunt, we’re coming right away."

Gu Tingyu had already prepared and was just waiting for Yiyi. Then the two of them went out together.

"Dezi, Wan’er, I just made a little something for breakfast. Hope it’s enough for you." Aunt Wu greeted them with a smile.

Looking at the simple white porridge, boiled eggs, and buns on the table, Yiyi thought it was already quite good. Gu Tingyu was even less picky, smiling as he said, "Aunt, this is already very generous."

"As long as you like it."

Aunt Qin sat down and warmly invited them to have breakfast.

Yiyi started by picking up the porridge to drink. However, when she smelled the porridge, she couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. But soon, she sipped the porridge casually and then ate a boiled egg.

Gu Tingyu ate a little more; besides porridge and boiled eggs, he also had three buns.

"Aunt, it’s so good having you here, it’s so convenient for us."

After breakfast, Yiyi smiled sweetly, holding Aunt Qin’s hand and chatting with her.

"I am currently living at your house, so it’s my duty to take care of you. You just arrived yesterday, so rest well at home today. Tomorrow, we can start preparing for the ten-year memorial of your parents."

Yiyi sat quietly on the side, listening to the conversations, but soon she couldn’t help but yawn, "How strange, I just got up and I’m already so sleepy."

Upon hearing this, Gu Tingyu suddenly felt drowsy too.

"You must be exhausted from traveling. You just arrived yesterday, so today you haven’t recovered. I think you should go back to your room and sleep a little more; we can talk later when you wake up."

Gu Tingyu immediately woke up in alarm. He knew his body; there was no way he’d be this tired just from traveling. So... was there something wrong with the breakfast they just had?

Yiyi shook her head hard, but instead of waking up, she felt even more muddled. She got up directly, grabbed Gu Tingyu’s sleeve, and mumbled, "Brother, since Aunt said so, let’s go back to the room and sleep a bit."

Before Gu Tingyu could say anything, Yiyi secretly pinched him.

Feeling the pain in his arm, Gu Tingyu immediately agreed with Yiyi, "Alright, let’s go sleep a bit more."

Seeing the two return to the room, Aunt Qin’s face showed a hint of a smile, then she glanced at Aunt Wu and walked towards the east end of the old house.

On the other side, Yiyi and Gu Tingyu returned to their room, went to their respective beds, and fell asleep, even snoring occasionally.

After a long while, Yiyi suddenly opened her eyes. She first calmed down and listened carefully to the surrounding noises. Finally, she looked at Gu Tingyu. Seeing him deeply asleep, she quickly took out a medicine pill, walked to his side, pried open his mouth, and quickly shoved it in.

Gu Tingyu suddenly woke up and instinctively moved to attack Yiyi upon opening his eyes. When he saw who it was, he quickly stopped and realized something was wrong, "Were we drugged earlier?"

"Yes, it was a strong sleeping drug, intended to knock us out for the whole day."

Hearing this, Gu Tingyu furrowed his brows even tighter, "It seems the other side is really cautious." But then he immediately thought of something odd, "How did you know it was a strong sleeping drug?"

"I have a keen sense of smell; I knew as soon as I smelled it."

Yiyi said with a smile and then tapped her small backpack, "Luckily I brought all sorts of things with me this time, and one of them happens to be an antidote."

"Thank you so much then."

Gu Tingyu’s eyes were filled with gratitude, but he remained mindful of their mission, "Since those people drugged us, they must be up to something shady. I’ll go check it out now."

"Alright."

This time, Gu Tingyu took a longer time. Although Yiyi was anxious, she was afraid her presence would cause trouble and risk exposing them, so she had to patiently wait.

"Brother... you’re finally back."

Seeing Gu Tingyu return, Yiyi couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.

Gu Tingyu briefly explained what he found, "Today, those people indeed took action. Most of them have left, and I don’t know what they’re up to, but the hostage we need to rescue is still in this house. This is a good opportunity. If possible, we’ll start the operation this afternoon."
