Chapter 259: Final Battle (3)

Amid the chaotic battle, Shinon’s mind went blank as he witnessed his father, Caleb, sacrifice himself to protect him from the monstrous creature.

Caleb’s parting words echoed in Shinon’s mind, but even they were silenced as Shinon’s mind went blank. Within seconds, an undead, sharing the resemblance with his father, turned to attack him.

Shinon’s blank eyes met with his dead eyes. Strangely, both of their gazes were identical, but only one of them was literally dead. The other had died on the inside.

Following his father’s betrayal, Shinon did want to punish him. However, he didn’t want Caleb to go out the way he did.

In the background, Shinon could hear everyone yelling at him to get away, but to him, nothing mattered anymore. Not until the grotesque creature made a sound that resembled laughter.

Miro, that bastard, was enjoying giving grief to others even after his death. Just that thought brought back Shinon, but not in the way anyone had expected.

But first, Shinon had to deal with his father the only way he knew to deal with the undead. Time seemed to slow as Caleb lunged at Shinon.

At that moment, Shinon didn’t hesitate and brought out a shadow blade, severing his undead father’s head. The act was swift and emotionless.

Caleb’s head rolled to the ground, severed from his body. The silence that followed was deafening, or maybe it was a silence that only Shinon could hear. Either way, he was glad because he didn’t want to listen to anything anymore.

As Shinon placed the rest of Caleb’s corpse to rest, a storm of darkness erupted from within him. Something in him had broken, and it didn’t go unnoticed by everyone on the battlefield.

Selena, one of the onlookers, noticed the sudden change and instinctively yelled, "Everyone, get away from Shinon! NOW!"

A collective gasp escaped the lips of those around them as they stumbled backwards, running away from Shinon as fast as they could. The shadows around him had gone berserk, attacking anything and everything in sight.

A moment later, the ground beneath Shinon’s feet erupted, transforming the area around him into a deep crater. The shockwave rippled through the air as a larger area was obliterated instantly.

The onlookers were left in awe, witnessing the extent of Shinon’s powers. But only a few knew it wasn’t the ’extent’ of his powers. Instead, he had turned into a broken dam, unleashing every bit of his strength.

But only Kira could notice the change in his eyes, once filled with life, had turned completely dark, like an abyss from where nothing ever returned to the world of the living.

"Shinon..."

Blind in his fury, Shinon felt an overwhelming surge of power coursing through him. The shadows now clung to him like a protective shroud. The darkness enveloped him, consuming his form entirely.

Shinon drowned in the shadows, unleashed a primal roar that echoed through the facility. Everyone subconsciously backed away after coming to terms with Shinon’s power.

Shinon charged towards the undead Miro in his blinded rage, the shadows swirling around him like a cyclone. Sensing the approaching threat, the undead creature turned its attention to Shinon, ready to absorb him as it had done with others before.

However, the darkness surrounding Shinon had made even the light impossible to enter, let alone the creature’s tentacle. As the shadows converged over Shinon, he emerged from the darkness. He wasn’t controlling the shadows anymore and had become one with it.

As Shinon closed in, Miro extended its hideous appendages, attempting to envelop Shinon in its grasp again. However, the shadows sliced through the creature’s tentacles like a blade through the air. Surprisingly, unlike before, the severed tentacles did not regenerate.

The shadows were not only protecting Shinon; they were attacking the undead monster as it had never been before. The tentacles that once seemed unstoppable now recoiled as if weakened by the darkness that empowered Shinon.

"What are you all doing?" Rico yelled, struggling to keep the undead at bay. "This is our time to strike! FOCUS FIRE!"

Rico’s words echoed over the chaos as everyone rallied around him and focused on taking down the zombies that had come rushing in because of Miro’s call.

Sensing the imminent danger, the creature tried to back away, a feeble attempt to escape the wrath of the shadows. However, Shinon was set on not letting the beast run, not after everything it had done.

A moment later, Shinon extended his shadows, moulding them into chains, holding the undead abomination in place. Without a word, he rushed towards the creature, shadows trailing behind him like a dark cloak.

Shinon relentlessly attacked the damned monster. His movements were a blur of shadow-infused strikes. The undead Miro didn’t expect Shinon’s attacks and struggled to respond in kind.

Having no way out from Shinon’s attacks, the creature turned its attention towards the others on the battlefield, hoping to absorb them to counter the loss it had taken from Shinon’s attacks.

While Shinon didn’t care about anyone else at that moment, he couldn’t let the monster replenish its lost health and thus used shadow spikes to pin Miro’s various tentacles into the ground.

As Shinon continued his assault, the shadows around him seemed to intensify. Miro, unable to absorb anything, thrashed in pain.

However, even during the battle, Shinon’s struggle became evident. The dark power that fueled his rampage was taking its toll on his body.

His breaths became ragged, and his movements, once fluid and swift, became erratic. The shadows that cloaked him seemed to waver as if their strength was diminishing.

But Shinon couldn’t care less about himself. Ignoring the pain and fatigue, Shinon mustered his remaining strength for a final assault. The shadows around him surged, enveloping his form in a vortex of darkness.

With a rage-fueled roar, he unleashed a devastating series of strikes against the weakened undead Miro, literally tearing the creature apart, one piece at a time.

Everyone, from the Eclipse soldiers to the facility personnel, watched in stunned silence as Shinon’s rage unfolded before them.

The shock on their faces mirrored the gruesome spectacle before them. In a pivotal moment, Shinon delivered the decisive blow, tearing through the creature’s heart with his shadow-infused hands.

The undead Miro crumbled, its form dissipating into nothingness. They had won, yet there were no triumphant cheers, only eerie silence.

Shinon, victorious but exhausted, stood amidst the remnants of the battlefield. The shadows that had once cloaked him now dissipated, as he couldn’t sustain them any longer, leaving him vulnerable and drained. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Shinon’s vision blurred as the adrenaline that fueled his rage subsided. He attempted to say something, but the battle had taken its toll on him, both physically and mentally, and he collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
